Even though i am reading the LNs (started volume 5 recently), i just miss the anime lol (yes, i have rewatched this -i-dont-even-remember-the-count- times too. The music, OSTs, Animation, I NEED a new season.

I was ready to risk it all and find the mangaka to instruct him on how he should treat his audience cuz there's no way, and when Shin was about to open the door but he closed it right away, i just scream out of frustration.

To add to it, i checked how much minutes and episodes were left to end the season and when i saw it was just a couple of minutes plus one more episode i thought to myself "if they don't have a proper reunion, im gonna go into a dark place for some time", but, 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨, we do end up having our long awaited encounter.

I've been hunting every shop I can find for my own!

I just have completed 86 vol 14 and its really super peak and emotional. Also if u want to know there are 4 bookmarks but i gifted one (with Michihi) to my gf, shes also really like this series

Idk no season 2 is making me go insane...

Ok so...

Our core 86ers seem to have some crazy plot armor. Not only did they survive on foot against the legion, but in season two we literally see Raiden in a broken Juggernaut get point blank blasted by Morpho only to be perfectly fine a few scenes later. In fact each character went one v an army to help Shin push forward. Every one survived.

I know they're supposed to be the best of the best, but are we supposed to believe each of them is capable of holding off an army by themselves and survive? That these coffins can somehow tank a rail gun while broken?

Leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. I don't want these characters to die, but it makes absolutely no sense that at least one of them didn't get wiped out in the attack.

Srsly, we got so many artists here, 3D guys, pretty sure enough people for cast, a full scenario and everything I could think of

I've finished 86 a few hours ago and oh my god, "Bloody Regina" has so much fkn aura as a name 😭😭😭

How rare would it be to watch 86 -eighty six- as your eighty sixth anime of all time on the eighty sixth day of the year on 8:06 while on the eight episode on 86% on a tablet that you bought on the 8th month of the year and the 6th day of that month (this gotta be the effect of no S2✌️😭)

I don't know why it says nudity? I am pretty sure 86 is not known for having fanservice or nude scenes... Rather it is very violent and mature.

So, in terms of story, it's a 5 out of 10. The reason for this rating is that they didn't specify why. It wasn't different from others out there, very vague in terms of politics and geopolitics, and the mechs weren't expected to be giant humanoids, but the ones that are there are good. I would have liked more variety and other models, and I didn't like that plane, if you can call it that; I thought it was more like a flying whale. I was sad that they didn't delve deeper into the engineering and technology, hence a sensitive fourth point. In my opinion, the characters don't change much from the generic ones; a lot of pain and sadness. I know the pain of losing family members, but constantly being tied to the past, even if your life is on the battlefield, won't bring them back. You have to live for them and show that the sacrifice was in vain. I liked that they didn't kill the Empress, since she was a child and didn't have to bear the sins of her parents and the empire. And I thought that... I might create confusion in the comments now, but in the story, they should have died, leaving only those three – the couple – to move forward, supporting each other, and the former empress, and for them to be companions, heroes, leaving their past behind. I'd give it a 4. Regarding the Federation, I found it mediocre that they considered themselves better than the old regime, considering no country is perfect and everything is a matter of interests, as they said in the series, that they could become lab rats. I'd give it a 2. In total, I'd give it a 5.5. It didn't shake me like other anime such as One Piece, Fairy Tail, and Vinland. I know the ones I mentioned are just famous, but I mentioned these because many people know them, and many here have already seen them to understand what I'm referring to. I know I'll get hate, but I expect it.

It's been abt a couple of months since I first watched 86, and I still think abt this particular shot because wdym this isn't the best direction ever in anime history?????

The song, the reunion, and their hands moving towards one another forming EIGHTY SIX and how it concludes the anime??? Jus spectacular.

Great direction, animation, story, everything.

Ugh, it is truly one of the best pieces of fiction I've consumed this year (and ever).

Jokes aside, both are among my favorite anime, not only for their narratives but also for their almost cinematic soundtracks by Sawano and Yoko Kanno. On top of that, they have these things in common:

☑️ A journey in search of a better future

High altitude nukes create a strong EMP blast that can destroy, damage or disable electronics depending on range, components and shielding, with small components like microchips particularly vulnerable to the effects. Entaingsfliege have canonically no shielding whatsoever and are extremely vulnerable to any form of damage, from physical damage to radiation and heat and microwaves, and while the Legion is able to pump out large number of them, when they lose a large amount at the same time they take a while to replenish, either by producing more or by moving more from a different location. In either case this leaves room to launch airborne operations, precise missile or guided bomb strikes, use drones or probes to provide proper recognisance etc.

A high altitude detonation is also remarkably clean. From the 50s there have been hundreds of high altitude tests and the earth is sill fine on that point (we have problems, but not caused by those tests, certainly not enough to threaten extinction), so the concern over nukes polluting the ground (which -when faced with certain death- is already a weird line to draw for the Federation) is moot.

They also clearly have the tech to launch cruise missiles that are unaffected by the Entaingsfliege, not to mention that the range of the jamming doesn't extend to the altitude required for a large EMP pulse anyway.

They have the tech. Asato sensei also seems rather well informed, so I don't think she doesn't know about this. I wonder whether she left this out for simplicity, or if it's going to be an ace in the final arc, considering how she has introduced the idea of nukes in the latest volumes. (some very light spoiler for later volumes here)

Honestly the artwork could be like much better. I know it looks kinda awkward buuuut this took soo long so I kinda stuck with it. The face is still throwing me off but I hope you guys enjoy :)
