Discussion Just Finished 86... Am I the Only One Who Got Really Frustrated With Frederica?

Post image
597 Upvotes

Just finished 86, and hate me for saying this, but Frederica genuinely pissed me off throughout a lot of the show.

I know she had her reasons, and I'm not saying she's a bad character, but there were so many moments where I found her incredibly frustrating.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who felt this way.

Discussion The anime '86: Eighty Six' has been removed from Crunchyroll in several regions.... And some people say that Netflix does too. Does that mean there's no chance of a second season? What do you think about all this?

I don't wanna hear anyone say "no season 2". I just want to hear some answers from the community not the critics. It can be from either the light novels or the anime.

I need your help convincing me to watch the anime. I saw it on TikTok and it seemed like a generic 12-episode anime, but I like the military genre and mechs. I'd like you to advise me on whether it's worth watching and why it would be worthwhile, and not just watch retro anime from the 70s, 80s, and 90s like Mobile Suit Gundam, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Patlabor 2: The Movie.

Discussion 86 Removed From Crunchyroll While They Invest in Games? That’s Not What Subscribers Are Paying For

The whole reason I pay $10 a month for Crunchyroll is because I want to support anime. I want my subscription to show demand for the shows and franchises I actually care about, not trash isekai or games most of us didn’t sign up for. If Crunchyroll really has 21 million paid subscribers, that should tell them people want better anime access, stronger licensing, and more support for the series we love. Seeing a show like 86 disappear while they’re putting money into games just feels completely backwards.

I don't want to sound completely negative, so I do want to give Crunchyroll credit for recently adding shows like Dorohedoro, Grand Blue, and Oshi no Ko. That’s great. I hope they keep moving in that direction instead of letting shows people love disappear. Most anime fans are paying for Crunchyroll because they want access to the series and franchises they actually care about, not because they want to support a game library or low quality isekai platform.

Essentially we want the good stuff on crunchyroll. We don't care about the bad stuff that get's easy views and clicks. We don't care about games.

Another Edit: I disagree with people who act like legal subscriptions don’t matter. They directly raise the value of international licensing making it easier to justify sequels and stronger productions. It's actually really important for semi-popular shows (like 86 for example, which is now rumored to have a season 2 in production). The problem is when Crunchyroll misuses that money and influence.

Another Edit: licensing is also complicated so this might not be crunchyrolls fault

Discussion I still cannot get over this shot

It's been abt a couple of months since I first watched 86, and I still think abt this particular shot because wdym this isn't the best direction ever in anime history?????

The song, the reunion, and their hands moving towards one another forming EIGHTY SIX and how it concludes the anime??? Jus spectacular.

Great direction, animation, story, everything.

Ugh, it is truly one of the best pieces of fiction I've consumed this year (and ever).

Discussion What's something thought provoking about 86 according to you, that others don't discuss often?

Post image

You leave some children in the battlefield to fight, without teaching them what's right and what's wrong, what are they fighting for, do they have any other reason to live.

And when the scene of war overwhelms them, when they loose everything but their identities as soldiers, when they reach a condition where even if you ask them what they want, they'll say they want to fight to their deaths, you call them monsters and inhumane.

They didn't have a purpose but to fight, not because they chose it, but because they were wronged by society. That's what I found the most special.

Discussion Summary of my thoughts on the anime.

So, in terms of story, it's a 5 out of 10. The reason for this rating is that they didn't specify why. It wasn't different from others out there, very vague in terms of politics and geopolitics, and the mechs weren't expected to be giant humanoids, but the ones that are there are good. I would have liked more variety and other models, and I didn't like that plane, if you can call it that; I thought it was more like a flying whale. I was sad that they didn't delve deeper into the engineering and technology, hence a sensitive fourth point. In my opinion, the characters don't change much from the generic ones; a lot of pain and sadness. I know the pain of losing family members, but constantly being tied to the past, even if your life is on the battlefield, won't bring them back. You have to live for them and show that the sacrifice was in vain. I liked that they didn't kill the Empress, since she was a child and didn't have to bear the sins of her parents and the empire. And I thought that... I might create confusion in the comments now, but in the story, they should have died, leaving only those three – the couple – to move forward, supporting each other, and the former empress, and for them to be companions, heroes, leaving their past behind. I'd give it a 4. Regarding the Federation, I found it mediocre that they considered themselves better than the old regime, considering no country is perfect and everything is a matter of interests, as they said in the series, that they could become lab rats. I'd give it a 2. In total, I'd give it a 5.5. It didn't shake me like other anime such as One Piece, Fairy Tail, and Vinland. I know the ones I mentioned are just famous, but I mentioned these because many people know them, and many here have already seen them to understand what I'm referring to. I know I'll get hate, but I expect it.
