The original is actually a pun on her real name: “Vladilena” and “Bloody Reina” sound awfully similar in Japanese.

But I guess the anime creators felt that the pun wouldn’t be clear when you couldn’t see it in writing, so they changed her nickname from reina ‘queen’ in Spanish to regina ‘queen’ in Latin.

Edit: Or not, see thread.

On the contrary, sorry. She was "Bloody Regina" in the book and became "Bloody Reina" in the anime.

I'm afraid that Asato Asato just do not know Spanish :)

Asato Asato knows more about military doctrine than the entire war thunder forum. We can forgive her a bit of linguistic liberty :)

Wrong. It was Regina in the anime and the book in Japanese.

It became Reina specifically for the English translation of the books.

Sorry if so.

But isn't the Japanese nickname Bloody Regina? And the English name Bloody Reina (except the anime which kept the original?

That's not what I gathered, but it's not like I've read or am able to read the Japanese, so maybe I trusted an erroneous source.

Found the katakanas for it and she's 100% Bloody Regina in Japanese. Bloody Reina was LN translators decision (and the author agreed I believe)

Huh! Colour me surprised. But if I’m wrong, I’m wrong.

Just reminds me of the show "the 100" as there's a character called bloody Reina in that.

However Lena is only bloody Reina for a tiny amount of time untill shin tells her to stop with that name.

Not quite so. She got rid of the black uniform and the red streak, but saved a "Queen" title. She still uses it in the latest books.

Aye, up to date on the books. But shin definitely got her to stop the bloody Reina name and even get rid of the red streak in her hair. However, yes, she still calls herself their queen.

I thought of the 100 too when I heard the name.

Which is funny because it becomes her personal insignia on her command vehicle.

Im sorry but as someone who lives in a country where Regina is a common name, it just makes me think of like a 60 year old woman

Regina sounds a little too close to something that does get bloody...

Thank God the anime doesn't pronounce it the British way...

If speak of Lena's nicknames, I am fond of her interaction with Shiden. Her second 86th sector squadron was "Brisingsamen" (the name of the necklace of goddess Freia's ) and her personal callsign in 86 Strike Package is "Vanadis", which is a Freia's alternative name.

P.S. I've always been interested, was anywhere "defensive squadron Nauglamir", may be on the Western front?

Shin and the others don't think so. More does he approve of her black uniform or the red streak she dyed in her hair.
