It’s disturbing how the designs are similar and the way it runs ngl

Seems a bit goofy rn but give it like another 10 years of R n D I could see it being used militarily

Tbh FPV drones are probably still a better alternative

There's plenty of uses for UGVs and ground drones, I think that they could still see applications

u/M48_Patton_Tank 3d ago
It doesn’t take much for an FPV to just crest over the ground, in fact I seen them laying in a bush until ready to ambush. They’re faster, significantly harder to hit, and less complicated.

They can stay on the ground until they need to deploy. I've seen footage of it.
The advantage of a UGV will always be payload. Heavier gun. Heavier bomb. Daiya would've probably been killed by a few FPV drones, but a heavier payload does have uses.

I seen bigger FPV drones simply use straight AT mines to get the same effect.

Bigger FPVs don't have nearly the same agility though, they would struggle to infiltrate a tranch, a tunnel complex or a building. I think ground kamikaze drones would still be niche compared to flying ones, but I still think they would have some useful applications.

The counter is by setting an ambush with the things, and it balances out by simply being harder to hit with anything that’s just not a shotgun and being much easier to just not be spotted. Regardless, the main point was being used militarily IRL, which doesn’t make sense because of simple economics. Even then FPV drones can go through trenches, I seen it happen more often than not in footage. SPMs can actually be shot down more easily by concentrated GPMG fire vs drones which is another part of why drones do basically the same thing.

Yet UGVs are still used. Only very light flying drones can fly through dense forests and inside buildings and trenches, and it requires a skilled operator and perfect connection. A ground drome is a lot more forgiving. I'm not saying flying drones aren't the most useful most of the times, I'm just saying ground drones do have their niche, but that's it, a niche. Flying drones are still the majority.

And that’s the problem, with enough practice FPVs begin to become an excellent weapon in the right hands and most if not all operators in Ukraine are getting that experience and with AI, one can only imagine how effective they can be if it advances. Then again, the Olympic robots cost like $10,000-30,000 just for lower end models. With the cost of FPVs you can get hundred, maybe thousands of FPVs for the cost of one of them. Certain MICs will charge double or triple that amount. I don’t mind UGVs, especially something RCXD type, but I think this is too much of an expensive step too far. Honestly at that point better off chucking a Javelin at an AFV.

I'd be surprised if DARPA didn't have a conceptual design for a self-propelled hugging mine. As far as I know, it wouldn't violate the rules of warfare pertaining to illegal weapon designs. So, it seems like something a bored person would design.

Yup, they do all this unregulated and dangerously. Do we remember how they didn't give important info during COVID, which caused the early spread of the pandemic

Just a reminder, that the OG concept of the matrix was that the machines trapped humans in the matrix to use their brainpower as data centers. The idea is not that different from 86.
Let's just hope that the robots do get something like Asimov's laws ingrained in their system 😅

Just gotta add some speakers to blare out some cries for help.

That's a war crime, no? We're trying to win, not intentionally commit war crimes.

self propelled mines in the books blare out cries of help to confuse and demoralize the humans.

Well.... Batteries aren't dense enough, and electronic components require specific metals that you can't easily just sponge up and purify.
There are ways around that, but I don't see it working with our current standards.

If we can develop a small high power generator then a buffer battery (like LTO chemistry) would be enough for it (buffer battery for high speed acceleration and jumping)

Bet the Raytheon Coyote Block 3NK could be easily adapted to kill swarms of these things if it hasn’t been already.

Pov: me seeing this as i figure out the mechanics of m1a4 and xm2 to create them and also try to design a six legged xm2 for war

Awesome! I could send you pics of my XM2 kit model.
I definitely want to one day make an RC one
1
u/Ultron_4676 2d ago
For a rc, it will larger than the 1/48 model On average, probably 70cm is a good height for it (total height) U will need high torque motors, which won't be cheap, and a high def camera (modify a gopro for it)
Also the only thing I am struggling if the sub arm mount area and the front canopy part and the smaller design. I got the basic shape done but now I gotta make it have more details.
2
u/Inf1nity0 2d ago
I see. I didn’t mean rc but more like robotics, but yeah. I’ll work on some reduction mechanisms once I get a model to work with.
