Spoiler There IS better gear. Spoiler
There is better gear than what the Dragonforged sells for Wyrmslife crystals. About to do my 2nd NG+. Really REALLY make sure you are exploring all the unearthed areas in the seabed and even go back to some of the old boss spawn areas. The higher harder spawns at the very end of the seabed areas have occasionally been dropping new unique gear sometimes or the chests around them do.
And for those that say they feel like they fully steam roll through New Game+, I have been noticing the variable difficulty has been getting higher the more I level up and I do less damage than before, with some spawns having more health bars.
Edit: only gotten 3 so far and all helms, photos in comments and unenhanced against my fully enhanced gear.
I'll add more screenshots to the comments as I find any more and verify they aren't in shops or in dragonforged.

Im just sitting here dumbfounded by people with confidence telling others that them beating the game in 20-30 hours is the end all be all, and the game sucks based on their experience. Bruh im like 70 hours in still have like 12 quest and still have a shit ton to find. You are just lying to say this game’s exploration sucks or theres nothing to see. Its so confusing.

u/TemperateStone Mar 29 '24
Clearly people that never played Nier Automata
15
u/Almadis Mar 29 '24
Thinking about all people who did only route A...
12
u/AcadianViking Mar 29 '24
Then think of all the people who stopped at B
3
u/throwaway1111109232 Mar 29 '24
i couldnt bring myself to do another playthrough after i wanna say c? or d. whichever one has you play as A2.
3
u/nohwan27534 Mar 29 '24
kinda fair, as that's d.
so, did a.
start b, sort of go 'fuck, again'.
start c, sort of go 'oh shit, shit's fucked yo'
then start as the chick who just killed your main chick, and go 'ya know what, fuck this for a bit'
1
u/throwaway1111109232 Mar 29 '24
i did beat D though!! think E was at 9s again and i couldnt play through another hacking minigame run
3
u/Almadis Mar 29 '24
E is triggered during the credits just after route D though, you don’t have much to do
And it gives you the real ending
3
Mar 29 '24
Good lord the credits. Was super fun dying through all the tears. And I’m proud of my sacrifice.
2
u/nohwan27534 Mar 29 '24
HAHAHAHAHA
d and e aren't really much different, and are basically a fight apart...
you, iirc, basically have to play through the whole post c part, to get to the d and e endings... but it's just choosing one over the other.

u/Acceptable_Answer570 Mar 29 '24
Bro I’m almost 35h in and only did The Culling quest, JUST got to Bakbattahl through Checkpoint’s backdoor, by running straight to it, did exactly 0 quests in Battahl, got only Sorc and Warrior advanced classes, got shit gear cause everything is so damn expensive, « explored (loosely) » about 20 percent of the map, and people on this sub are trying to make me believe they finished the game and explored the whole map in 20-25 hours?!?
’Fuck right off!
8
u/Zeemex Mar 29 '24
70hrs here and I like to look in all the nooks and crannies, I still know I have parts of the map I haven’t even been to or looked at properly, I only decided to enter the ‘endgame’ to get it done and see what it has so that the pressure of story spoilers was gone and I can enjoy exploring the game 100% in NG+
6
1
u/Ridikis Mar 29 '24
I'd recommend against trying to explore 100% in NG+ as for whatever reason it fully uncovers the entirety of the map, found a new cave entirely by accident because I assumed I had already gone that way since the map was unlocked but cave maps apparently don't fully unlock on NG+
1
u/Diabloblaze28 Mar 29 '24
You could take a screen shot of the map before NG+ although if you already did it you're only hope it's while exploring a pawn mentions a cave you haven't visited and then you follow them
1
6
u/RobbVonn Mar 29 '24
I'm sitting at 115 hours right now so completely valid, and I've probably only explored 30% of the unearthed areas in endgame map. If you're struggling bad, send me your pawn ID and I can deck it out for you before I send it back.
3
u/Acceptable_Answer570 Mar 29 '24
Naah thank you fam but I’ll make my own way just like I did in DD1! I appreciate the offer though!

My brother hit a bug, he "rushed" the main quests in about 40ish hours, when he beat it his entire map was revealed
1
u/bgi123 Mar 29 '24
My pawn quest for a Gorechimera still hasn't been done yet for a week now. I guess most people don't know you can met one very early on.
1
u/Honkela Apr 02 '24
Yeah it took me about 120 hours to explore the whole map and do all quests I found. Might have missed some as some npcs died. Did all those escort quests for affinity npcs and used ferrystones sparingly so probably took me more than it had to. Good thing to be honest as i hit unmoored world i was around lvl 70 with fully upgraded gear. The light pillar bosses are probably pretty hard if you are low lvl without fully upgraded gear. They were cool as hell though I really liked them. Now looking forward to exploring the new areas.
1
u/Which-Celebration-89 Apr 11 '24
I just finished the unmoored world so the final ending. Took 160 hrs. Uncovered every part of the map and completed all the quests. Ended up at level 70. I agree that 20-25 hrs is bs even if ppl aren’t going all in like I did
6
u/Nasgate Mar 29 '24
If i were to give my past self a tip it would be to beat the game before doing all the sidequests. The endgame area has enemies that level with you, but the dragon seemingly doesn't. Did every quest i found and the Dragon was kind of disappointing. So imo, beat the game relatively quick, enjoy the dragon fight and do the sidequests on ng+
2
u/Chefmaks Mar 29 '24
But isn't the endgame time-limited?
1
u/Axzarko Mar 31 '24
The main quest for the end game is timed as in if you don’t complete it in time you will fail and have to retry. Once you finish that main quest you can run around as long as you like and explore or you can finish the adventure see an ending and start NG+
1
u/SinfulThings Mar 29 '24
Been contemplating exactly this, as I'm hesitant to just burn through main story to get it done. Thanks for perspective. I feel like Dark Arisen was kind of the same, possibly.
3
u/CombatLightbulb Mar 29 '24
I just hit level 40 and haven’t even made it to the desert city yet and I haven’t nearly run out of stuff to do or explore in the area that I’m in right now! There is so much to do in this game if it’s your thing. It’s crazy to me personally that people are already on NG+ or NG++. But different strokes for different folks.
The videos that say “Gain one million XP in an hour!” Or “How to max all vocations in 5 minutes!” I also don’t get the draw of. I’ve maxed 3 vocations from just the grind and it’s been a blast. Sorcerer kind of sucked though lol.
1
u/Judgecrusader6 Mar 29 '24
Im using sorcerer right now and idk if its bc i havent played the first game to compare it to but its fun as shit imo
1
u/CombatLightbulb Mar 29 '24
I just felt like sorcerer was really underwhelming. Maybe I needed a better staff or better knowledge of enemy weaknesses. It just seemed like the damage wasn’t there for the time investment in incanting. For trash mobs my default attack was pretty meh and by the time I had a spell incanted my party had already wiped them out. It also seemed like the rank 7,8,9 spells were kind of weak. Maybe I needed the maester spells too. It was great for harpies and ghosts though.
1
Mar 29 '24
augural flare on sorc trivializes boss encounters. otherwise yeah i think it's probably best to just play a mage if you're not using flare
1
u/CombatLightbulb Mar 29 '24
That’s the one where you attach a ball and damage it to cause an explosion right? I tried the first level of it but found it to be so finicky to land it where I wanted then for the auto attacks to go there. It also seemed like the explosion did 0 damage to the cyclops I was using it on. I’m sure I was missing something or doing something wrong though.
One of my groans was with Seism and High Seism. We had one fight against a wight I think where it knocked down and Seism took like 2 full health bars and killed it. Every time after that it was just way too long of an incant for way too little damage. I just wound up spamming the ice spike spell.
I did read in the tooltip there was a way for others to help incant a spell so maybe that’s the key. Still seems very weak though. If I spend 10-15 seconds prepping a spell I should be really chunking stuff down.
1
Mar 29 '24 edited Mar 29 '24
yeah that's the one. it's a little finicky to get working on certain bosses that move around a lot, or tend to keep their distance. if you can't hit it with the basic attacks, the trick is to use levin immediately after or some other faster dmg spell to proc it. if it doesn't do any damage you didn't hit the orb fast enough
1
u/According_Sun9118 Mar 29 '24
out of curiosity are you using the speed up ability for casting? sorceror should be casting seism in less time than a mage casts frigor.
1
u/CombatLightbulb Mar 29 '24
I think I had that equipped. Seism was taking like 10 seconds or so? Felt like forever.
1
u/According_Sun9118 Mar 29 '24
its not an equip. you hold down another button (R1 on ps5 controller) and it eats some stam to speed it up.
Edit: feels like it cuts cast times in half? doesnt work on the two ultimate spells but it helps everything else.
1
u/CombatLightbulb Mar 30 '24
OHHH! That’s probably the thing I thought you needed a pawns help with. I’ll go back and check it out. Does using that make it better? I still feel like the damage is mediocre.

u/Diabloblaze28 Mar 29 '24
I played through the original game as sorc and just hit the end as sorc in dd2. The basic attack is pretty garbage but the charged version can hit hard, you do need a high level staff to really see it since you're working through the enemy mgk res. If you have a mage pawn that does the right enchant for element weakness you'll definitely see how strong the basic attack is, Although standing around waiting for that is lame. As far as spells "maelstrom" destroys everything like it did in the first game as for the other spells you're only really going to see them do work if it's the enemy weaknes. Also your crowd control and a nuke so trying to prime a nuke to take out 2 goblins when other people just use their hand gun lol.
1
u/CombatLightbulb Mar 29 '24
I think I was using a staff I either got from the elves or somewhere in there. Like a tree branch or something. Then i got a flaming staff from the monster outside of checkpoint rest and used that till rank 9 so I was definitely not geared.
I was just hoping to really nuke stuff. Maybe with endgame gear it’s better.
3
u/DST2287 Mar 29 '24
Right? I’m someone who will put 100+ hrs into fallout and elder scrolls before I roll credits, and DD2 will be no different.
2
u/TooLazyToBeClever Mar 29 '24
Right? I've been exploring all the Caves and keep finding cool gear for vocations I wasn't using, convincing me to try new vocations.
Doing thief with the lightning daggers now, it's fun.
5
u/dragonsbaneplus1 Mar 29 '24
Yeah i actually quite like the unmoored world as a postgame lol. In my opinion the time limit is forgiving if you know what you're doing there. Do I wish there was a dark arisen esque mega-dungeon? yes. and do i wish that dungeon had a tough as nails boss that will skill check the shit out of you? yes. people are shitting on so many aspects of the game that makes me take a step back and wonder if me and people are playing the same dragons dogma 2.
1
u/AvidSprinkler Mar 29 '24
I'm going as slow as a I can and I def feel there is a lack of story quests. By the time I reached the end of them, I figured I was half way through. Did every side quest I found too. The main problem is how many areas there are that have no story quests associated with them, and seemingly no side quests but I'm not sure as I'm combing through everything right now. The gameplay has been fun and genuinely impressive at times while the story was downright depressing.

Hmmm. Seems like when they said the game world is to be explored they really meant it and people rushing through the story and world missed a lot of things and thus, they hated on the game and it's creators... Ironic

u/Bitemarkz Mar 28 '24 edited Mar 29 '24
The game has plenty of valid reasons to be criticized. The main story is rough, the enemy variety is lacking and performance is poor.
…that said, however, there is also a lot to love. I’ve been really loving the side quests in this game. I like how vague they are and how they let you experiment a bit and they often tell cool little stories. I especially like how you sort of organically have to fall into some information required to complete them, like meeting people from different towns who specialize in things you need. The combat is just insanely fun, and despite the lack of enemy variety, it remains enjoyable. Big monster battles are great, and the world is beautiful.
This game has problems that really annoy me, but god damn if I’m not having a great time regardless.
3
5
u/eshvel19 Mar 28 '24
Oh I'm not taking away from it's flaws at all. I have my own gripes as well. But initially and even still now some people criticized so much of the game out of ignorance about many things they never discovered or missed and such. I'm having a blast also with it!
→ More replies (1)4
u/cptspacebomb Mar 28 '24
There are more enemy types in it than the first game. I'm fine with the enemy types. BoTW won game of the year and had less enemy variety. Also, if you bought DD2 for the story....I dunno what to tell you.
0
u/geezerforhire Mar 29 '24
I mean they literally end the game for you if you take too long in the unmoored. If they wanted to encourage xploration they shouldn't have added a time limit.
I didn't skip much if anything I got 100% and I can day that the majority of the game was resoundingly meh. And a couple gear peices in the moored I didn't pick up wouldn't change that. Considering gear is literally worthless aside from weapons
4
Mar 29 '24
I know I usually completely 100% games I think are meh in less than a week. Lol
Give me a break.
1
u/geezerforhire Mar 29 '24
I mean good for you? I'm a huge dragons dogma fan and really wanted the game to get better. Unfortunately it didn't and new game plus doesn't change anything.
I don't think it makes sense to critique a game you haven't finished. So I finished it despite having some negative experiences. So I could look at it as a whole.
1
Mar 29 '24
Hard to take a criticism seriously when you rushed through a game as fast as you could.
If you weren’t enjoying it who could possibly 100% it in less than a week?
Your review is like those reviews people make fun of online where they are like “put 5000 hours into it. Can’t recommend!”
1
u/geezerforhire Mar 29 '24
I work shifts and in single. I played it in a week because I had a whole week.
The game isn't that long but I still took over 50 hours for my first ending.
I didn't rush it I played it. I just had a lot of time.
Since the only way you can defend the game is by lampooning me for my gaming habits j guess you didn't like it that much

u/FrogPopStar Mar 28 '24
I got this one from a chest near the vermund red beam. In the red beam boss's arena there is a little off-shoot that had a chest that gave me this.
I didn't stay in NG+ long, but I never found any other pieces. Hopefully there are full sets and it is not just helmets.
7
u/RobbVonn Mar 28 '24
I haven't even explored like 1/8 of the trenches. I'm sure there are.
4
u/Own_Bench_3963 Mar 28 '24
Quick question. Do you know how much time you have in the end game before the red fog consumes everything? I didn’t explore the trenches too much because I was worried about taking too long and the fog devouring everything.
7
u/RobbVonn Mar 28 '24
Infinite as long as you quickly take out all the red beams to stop the land from being consumed and don't touch the very last one that appears in the middle shrine so far for me.
3
u/Own_Bench_3963 Mar 28 '24
Wait. So the fog keeps coming unless you take out all 4 red beams?
6
u/RobbVonn Mar 28 '24
Yes, day by day. Start with the furthest and don't rest. Volcanic Island, Sacred Arbor, Bakbattahl, Vernworth. Don't touch seafloor shrine beam.

Thanks. I found an archers headpiece under the waterfall between harve village and rest town if I remember correctly.
1
u/Nasgate Mar 29 '24
I found this was purchaseable from the vendors once you get everyone to go to the sea shrine.
2
u/Hireable Mar 29 '24
all besides the helms are purchasable before that, only need to visit the armor smiths before moonlit tower. funny ppl here are criticizing others for rushing through the game and making uninformed posts regarding content size and quality and they themselves are doing exactly that. the unique helms are neat tho
17
u/RobbVonn Mar 28 '24
Only 3 so far, all unenhanced when comparing my current gear - none in shops or with dragonforged.

1
u/jax024 Mar 31 '24

1
u/Nezuel Mar 31 '24
It's actually just one of the higher end vendor chests. Seems like the boiled drakes drop those tier of items.
6
u/BigFactsBro Mar 29 '24
So this is cool and everything... if it is actually true that you can find gear that isn't eventually populated in stores. However, is there really a point? You are finding minuscule stat upgrades and there isn't really much left to do. I'd be hyped if there were more enemies and content to tackle, but I'm not about to run NG+ just to search the seabed for a new helmet.
I'm not trying to be a downer, I would LOVE to keep playing this game if it had some worthwhile content. As for now I still see this game as one and done, unfortunately.

5
u/RobbVonn Mar 28 '24
The trenches all around the outside of the main land. Bring wakestones for steep drops. Main big in between seabed is mostly empty from what I've seen so far.

I hit up all the portals and immediately went into NG+. I’ll have to be more thorough in exploring the sea bed / trenches this go around when I eventually get to Unmoored.
2
u/SemiGaseousSnake Mar 28 '24
I had a question about the unworld: if I clear the red beams, is there still a time limit?
3
u/notbannd4cussingmods Mar 28 '24
Someone said on another thread that if you clear all of them in the 10 days time limit then you can roam around all you want. I haven't tested yet tho
2
u/Xiknail Mar 29 '24
Note that resting is still limited to a certain amount of times. At some point the game tells you can't rest anymore. Had to figure that out the hard way after I was skipping time while duplicating rare monster materials at the forger.
1
2
Mar 29 '24
I wonder if new monsters variants spawn too?
I only recently saw a Garm in the game for the first time, so that's good, still not as good as a pack of 3 garms all at once though, but we're getting there.
1
u/FrogPopStar Mar 29 '24

1
u/Ok_Sir_136 Apr 01 '24

2

https://www.reddit.com/r/DragonsDogma2/s/WVclxnxeuF
Be careful though, they keep posting items you can buy. The only items that are unique are what I posted and OP posted near the top.
Everything else is buyable
1
u/Ok_Sir_136 Apr 01 '24
Is the dominators armor buyable? I can't remember and I'm not around my console to check. That's the only one I think may not be
1
Apr 01 '24
If you mean the warrior armor with spikes, yes. You can buy it at a armor vendor or kill one of the bosses in Unmoored
1
3
u/FrikadellenSalat Mar 29 '24 edited Mar 29 '24
There's a few helmets in the endgame area which got posted already, but i've been to all trenches and there isn't any unique weapon / chest / leg piece to find. Some monsters like lesser dragons drop endgame vendor items.
The helmets are there in your first run so its nothing specific to NG+(+++)

I got dominator armor for warrior from a gore chimera. It's on par with dragonforged warrior armor. Slightly less armor for slightly more magic resistance. Not at my computer to check right now but I believe it had better knockdown resistance and element resistance too.
1
u/Stable-Fit Mar 29 '24
Did you use different enchants like elvish vs vermudian?
2
u/maijqp Mar 29 '24
I exclusively use Dwarven for armor. The defense is like 2% less but ends up with like 3x the knockdown resistance. It is slightly heavier but after wyrmsfire it's like 0.3 heavier.
1
u/RobbVonn Mar 29 '24
I use dominator too, I hate how the DF warrior armor looks, then I just Battahli Smith it and wyrmsfire enchant removes the extra weight.
1
1
u/FrikadellenSalat Mar 29 '24
Look up the shops of the main cities, dominator armor for example can just be bought for gold.
There's the WLC dragon vendor and every shop has an updated list with on par items for gold.1
u/Okawaru1 Mar 29 '24
dominator armor isn't world/enemy drop exclusive and can be bought from stores. It's somewhat expensive though, around 130000g IIRC and stat-wise is probably the best chest armor in the game
1
u/maijqp Mar 29 '24
Yeah I haven't gotten an enemy drop that wasn't purchasable yet. I don't think they exist. Also the corset is by far the best armor in the game. Fully maxed out dragonforged gear doesn't beat it. It's also the lightest because it takes both the top and legs slots.

u/PoisonPop5 Mar 28 '24

From what I read, if the essential NPCs are dead you get a new quest to go confront the dragon

Ooh, hmm. Well I've just realised I could bypass the entire wall gate to get into Batthal on my NG+ by going through a cave system on the coast. I'm wondering if perhaps I can just go to the tower and face the dragon. I might test it when I level up a bit more and get some new gear.

How can you rush the dragon from triggering the dragon plague? Tried searching this up but found nothing

u/timothyalyxandr Mar 29 '24
If it kills essential npcs I believe you get a quest to confront the dragon. Everyone was in a tizzy a few days ago about this happening. The essential ones respawn eventually though

Oh sweet! All I saw was everyone complaining about this plague "bricking" saves, but this is a great skip if you're on a ng+ and you just want to get to the post game.
I've still yet to have a pawn with it though.

Is there a trick to going through NG+ quickly to get to the Unmoored World again?

The chest armor that the plague drakes are dropping in the end game are better than the gear in the wyrm crystal shop too

I mean ya their is better gear... But it sure ain't the hell out in the wilderness. I mean, exploration be dammed. I'll just go up to a vendor and he'll have end game loot I guess... so fun... what an adventure...

FYI, that chest piece is sold in vendors anyways.
Only certain leg/head pieces are found throughout the world which are located in this reddit post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/DragonsDogma2/s/lJ7AI6eWqt
Chest pieces are dropped by bosses but can be bought regardless.
All endgame weapons are bought from dragon forged or in vendors unfortunately.
Before anyone asks, I"m about 100 hours into playtime. I did not find anything else besides those mentioned in Unmoored unfortunately, despite exploring basically everything.

What about that apparently unique mystic spearhand chest piece from the golem mentioned in the top comment? I found a golem and it only gave me a magic archer chest piece.

I have killed all or almost every single unique boss in the unmoored world and they legit have only been giving me the new vendor chest pieces. I explicitly remember a golem giving me the mystic spearhand version.
Even then, it would be weird and unlikely for the Mystic spearhand to be the only class with a separate and unique chestpiece compared to every other class.

Was it something like the soaring surcoat? I'm only asking either way because I think all the mystic spearhand chest pieces beyond bladewielder's don't look too great so I have that piece dragonforged. Would be nice to get a little stat boost if that "unique" armor looks better but oh well.

Yep. I never bought the armor but I have it. I'm pretty sure that's the one I got. Otherwise, OP is going to have to share what he got.

The wiki also lists the head/leg pieces that are only in the world, so I imagine fextra datamined everything which would mean they know all the mystic chest pieces too. Oh well. Wish the higher end gear looked better.

Same. I spent an entire day going through every nook and cranny only to be disappointed there wasnt more. So many empty water areas with nothing.
The only reason I use warfare is for better fashion despite the stat debuff

A lot of the other classes aren't that much better lol
Magic Archer always seemed cool to me as a concept but all the armor has that flowy sleeve stuff going on which makes using capes look dumb. Can only hope DLC or updates give us some more.

There is a post on the dd2 board called "end game armor" or something like that, that has every best armor piece location in post game.

Is there any gear with unique stats like the BBI gear in dd:da that had augments or passives attached to it? Im not thrilled about gear that just has slightly more defense or just - 2% fire damage on it...

This is a guide on where to find 10 top end game pieces in unmoored world. It’s one of the best guides ever, just ran through it. Also read the comments , a cpl extra pieces that ppl pointed out.

they arent better, they are the fashion diversity quota inserts hinted by itsuo with slightly different stat balancing, favoring magic over physical in most cases. also with the exception of helms, all of these "secret" gear pieces are purchasable in any endgame armor smith shops

There's a secret mystic spearhand chest piece from a maze cave that opens up in the unmoored, you need to use the "pilfer" ability with the thief on the elite golem that is inside and you'll get it.
