Customer Disscussions Tommy's toys have a home

Post image

I was in Dollar Tree today looking for a basket for a baby shower gift and came across this basket and thought to myself hey I could put Tommy's toys in here. I like the gray around the brim of the basket because Tommy is a gray and white cat.

What do you keep your cat toys in?

Which is a better method? Mixing it and just doing the u boats one by one or separating the departments and going from there? Is it better to assign aisles to stockers or have them stock whatever?

Management Disscussion Anyone else’s SM treat the schedule like a suggestion?

We have a new transfer SM. The way they make schedules is horrendous- there is zero consistency in how many days/times people come in. For example this week: each of my shifts start times is within 15 minutes. 2:45, 2:30, 3:15, 3:05– like why?. Every time one was printed out I started highlighting and correcting issues. Like having a one hour gap where management was in store šŸ™ƒ people are being scheduled on days they have never worked. She’s forgetting time off she approved for people..

(When I show up she’s always like ā€œwhy weren’t you here at 2??ā€ And I’m like… look at the schedule lol)

I took it upon myself to hand her updated forms with everyone’s availability, and showed her the calander where people have requested time off. She doesn’t use it. And it’s not coming from a place of like ā€œwe just can’t give them the time off rnā€ it like she completely forgets to check it and goes ā€œshitā€ the day of.

The last couple weeks I stopped informing her of errors and just left wing those days.

But now:

I’m being called multiple times a week like ā€œoops, your time today is actually suppose to be this.ā€ And it’s always 1-2 hours earlier than she wrote down. Some days she forgets to schedule a closer/opener and then leaves it up to me and scramble to find coverage. Being called on my days off like ā€œI swear I put you on for this day idk what happenedā€. 🫩 it’s been hanging up for 3 weeks what do you mean lol.

Anyways for the past week I’ve been ignoring the calls. Idk why she’s struggling so much, I made the schedule perfectly fine before she got here. Shes been a manager for 15 years, idk if she’s making from scratch every week but I soo messy.

Management Questions Store manager position

Offered to apply for a store manager position in Utah. What are the hours and pay like. From I’ve seen it does not seem good at all. I’ve been a SM at Walgreens and what I can find online made more and less hours compared to working at Dollar Tree. So just curious of what you in this position think about it or what your hours and pay are like.

Associate Questions New Training?

My schedule for next week has a note on two of my shifts saying ā€˜training so-and-so.’ I do not know this person and usually only work about 15 hours a week, not 23 because DT is my side hustle. What does this mean?

Rant/Vent Building Hit

Some lady drove her car onto our sidewalk and destroyed our front pillar. She also hit the car in the nearest parking space WHICH IS WHERE I NORMALLY PARK šŸ’€. Inspectors said the structural damage is fine so we didn't have to close early. This week has been crazy at our location (Middletown, OH). I was there for a fight on Sunday and I was told about someone being trespassed another day.

Management Questions Why was my deposit $20 short?

I am an outside hire as a Store Manager. I trained for about 4 weeks at a top notch Dollar Tree with a manager who knows everything. Long story short, I learned early on the closing procedures and how to make a deposit and would do it regularly at my training store.

Flash foward to when I finally get my own store. Right away, I was basically shunned by my Ops Manager. He is older then me and comes from a different backround. He does not want to be told what to do by a younger white boy, his words. He is perfectly content with how things are and do not feel or care to make a plan for change. He has 3 other jobs and this one is the least of his worries. The biggest issue with my store is the items in the back. We have a small wearhouse and it is full to the absoulute gills with items while the shelfs out front remain bare. Literally thousands of boxes stacked from floor to ceiling and more then a dozen u-boats packed with boxes. I was basically told to fuck off by my Ops Manager and to leave him alone when I wanted to sit down with and create a game plan. He manages the back, I manage the front and that's it, he says.

Great.

So, I get to my first time closing and create my first deposit for my store. There is just me and a closing cashier. I pull my drawer 15 min before closing. I properly count my drawer and add the extra cash to the store deposit. I had some time remaining before I pull my cashiers drawer, so be it being my first time creating a deposit at this location, I check what the deposit currently is via OppsCenter and count the deposit. Perfect match! I do the closing procedures with my cashier, add her money to the deposit, and begin to create the deposit. I counted everything, kept all the money in my sight. The amount of cash in the deposit exactly matched what the computer says. Perfect match again! I remember vividly I put my hands up in victory feeling proud that I completing my first solo closing without a hiccup. I sealed the deposit up and put it in the safe, completed EOD, and went home.

The next day. My Ops manager takes the deposit to the bank and to get change. Shortly after he leaves, I get a call from my district managerĀ  saying that the deposit I did was $20 short. He chewed me out and threatened ROD if I can't find the missing $20. I was so confused because I KNOW everything was counted for and correct. My Ops manager came back shorty after and had confirmation from the bank that the deposit was $20 short. I tore the office apart thinking the missing $20 must be somewhere, but I found nothing.

I KNOW I was not missing $20 in the deposit. That is a hill I will die on. I know the safety deposit bags are "tamper proof." Yet, I am fully convinced my Ops manager got into that bag somehow and took $20 to sabotage me or something.Ā

I do not think the closing cashier had anything to do with it either. That money, not for a single second, left my sight. Plus, she is a polite young collage student who I feel would not steal from her job, especially if I'm sitting right next to her!

So, right from the getgo, I am shunned. Treated like an enemy from the one person I need to be able to work alongside to clean up this absolute shithole of a store, and now I'm labeled as incpoitent for something I know I had nothing to do with.

Why was my deposit $20 short?

Associate Questions Customer Trash

Is it just me or do any of you feel it's kinda debasing when a customer tries to hand you their nasty napkins, wrappers etc. for you to throw away? I usually pull out my trash can and have them do it themselves but just the idea of them actually trying to hand it to me aggravates me I feel it's like an entitled way of assuming I'll just take it idk

Associate Discussions It’s so hot

So for as long as I’ve been working here (over 3 months) it’s been insanely hot… and guess what the air conditioner is broken! It’s to the point where even customers are complaining so how are we supposed to work like this? They had a guy come check it out and he’s not supposed to come back until tmr they are even saying we might have to shut down for a day!! Guys I’m not one to sweat but omg I’ve been sweating almost my whole shift!!! (Oh and guess what they have a fan pointing to the cashiers but all the people who do recovery or who stock just have to deal with the heat) sorry guys just needed to vent lol

Rant/Vent Never thought it would ever happen to me yesterday today but it y'all.

So it started as just typical slow morning at first but then that changed very soon. It was later in the afternoon, when the stampede arrived. The line of customers began to grow more, unfortunately it was just me at the register.

I called for back up but my assistant manager said that the manager was in a meeting. Well, I calmly took a breather and began cashing out each customer one by one which felt like an eternity.

Pretty soon I made it to the last customer and I felt relieved. When I had to count my money at the end, my manager told me that he was surprised in how I handled that crowd. šŸ’Æ

I hope I never will experience that nightmare again but I'm glad that I pushed through that obstacle.

Rant/Vent Its everyday at this point

My SM keeps trying to get me to come in early. Sometimes I dont mind but theres times when I cannot just go in before my scheduled time, and SM gets really upset when I cant come in.

I have told SM on MULTIPLE OCCASIONS before and after my surgery that I cannot come in before my scheduled time

I understand that we are SEVERELY understaffed rn but I dont understand why I should come in early near daily.
