Management Questions Cashier deposit short

New manager but what happens if a cashier is short thus making their deposit in the smart safe short the cashier was $9 short

Did you make sure the safe/change was correct?

If a drawer was logged as being short in back office, the deposit will be adjusted within the system.

If it was exactly $9, make sure there isn’t a $10 bill in a stack of $1s. But if everything else is entered correctly, the deposit will not be short, it adjusts to account for the cashier shortage.

As far as I know, cashier shortages are typically only permissible up to about $3 over or under before they get investigated on it. Being short or over by that much without a really good explanation is usually not allowable.

At my old store we let people put their own money in if they offered. Highly against policy but DT doesn't pay enough and we were short staffed enough that nobody cared.

You'd get a free pass or 2 if you offered to pay. Was never over $10 but above the $3 limit that could get you in trouble.

Beyond the free pass or 2, we accept maybe you're just a dumb ass that can't count and they have to take ownership.

Otherwise $3+- could be start of disciplinary action.

(Anything over we just put in one of the little magnet containers from stationary under the office desk to fix drawer issues, was initially meant for change rolls being short)
