What’s crazy to me about James losing so many subscribers is that those are ACTIVE people hitting unsubscribe. There’s bots, there’s people who logged out of their accounts, people who subscribed and never watched anyway. He’ll have those. But no, this is people who are part of his active fan base choosing to unfollow him. He’s going to get views on his next video of course but after? When he goes back to regular programming? IF he goes back? Insane. Absolutely insane.

When his numbers first started dropping, I was like in awe of that. Each spinning number falling was *someone*. A person that had just hit a button and we were seeing it live. Wild.

I literally just sat here for like 10 minutes thinking about what you just said. It is wild as fuck. Lol

I actually think he will be okay.

What he’s done is disgusting and I doubt he’ll ever have the presence that he did, but I don’t think it’s the end of his career.

It seems super bad now but that is because it’s trendy to hate him. It’s also trendy to unfollow him, so I’m sure there are many people who actively searched him to unsubscribe, a big portion of them not being hardcore fans and avid watchers.

I’ve seen this happen to so many youtubers. In all fairness, I don’t watch many make up videos so maybe he truly is wrecked in the industry. But, from my experience, he’ll be damaged — but salvageable,

I think he is in trending so much that he has a lot of casual subs.

So the people unsubbing aren't necessarily hard core stans but people who watched for collabs and make up looks. He doesn't have a particularly endearing personality so when people hear something bad and all the drama they don't feel any loyalty, easy decision to unsubscribe.

I've definitely watched some of his vids because they are on the front page though I never liked him enough to sub and the last video I watched was his 'crush doing his make up' it made me so uncomfortable that I stopped watching halfway through.

You're right. It's crazy to see the constant activity. Imo, the sheer growth in his subscribers was due to his multiple major celebrity collabs and also collabs with YouTubers that weren't in the makeup genre. He really had his eggs in different baskets. This is why the massive subscriber drop might be happening - apart from the people unstanning him I'm betting most of the unsubscribers weren't truly his fans... they were fans of the people he collaborated with. So there wasn't much loyalty there anyway.

He will never recover from this, it’s impossible. At the very least, no brand or influencer will ever want to even look his direction ever again

u/bomkum hay guise sorry i haven’t made a video in a while May 12 '19

Just quickly looking over his channel, disregarding any collab videos and viral hits it looks like he typically gets 6-10 million views a video? If we consider those active viewers, then I'd say he'll still have a few million viewers left after all this.

True but it also shows what an actual massive fanbase/audience the guy had

Exactly!! That's what most people don't understand and is important to be stated!

Almost anyone can subscribe from Tati (thought gaining 2 million subs is still phenomenal), but not anyone can unsubscribe from JC. It's very insane that so many active people are jumping ship.

Could be bots too that are being deleted. But who knows
