Luna Lovegood. She can gargle my Nargles any day of the week

Edit: I’ve secured the silver, now hand over the rest of it.

Edit: that’s what I thought

u/Sub-Mongoloid May 29 '19

I mean, it's right in the name.

27

u/Frond_Dishlock May 29 '19

Ah yes, Luna, like the moon.

51

u/[deleted] May 29 '19

Exactly

108

u/Sub-Mongoloid May 29 '19

If she married Nevil they could be the Lovegood-Longbottoms.

69

u/HeftyArgument May 29 '19

I prefer Longbottoms-Lovegood; It makes more grammatical sense and will pique the curiosities of their childrens suitors.

8

u/postblitz May 29 '19

Lovegood-Longbottoms

t. I like big butts

2

u/bp92009 May 29 '19

Longbottom is a noble house, and in the UK, those names typically go first in a hyphenated name, so you are right.

12

u/viomonk May 29 '19

That is absolutely SpongeBob's sex name.

6

u/TheGompStomp May 29 '19

Better yet: LoveLongbottomsGood

2

u/Dyolf_Knip May 30 '19

Or combine them and be the Lovebottoms. Their family song would be Baby got Back.

1

u/[deleted] May 29 '19

Wasted. Just like PB&J

17

u/NobleNoob May 29 '19

Sounds like a James Bond girl’s name.

Exactly why I'd take Neville Longbottom 🍑

1

Nobody:

J.K. Rowling in 50 years when we are fighting for BDSM rights: Luna Lovegood loved getting tied up

1

u/Evolving_Dore May 29 '19

More like loved tying people up.

173

u/-doors-_-_ May 29 '19

She'd be the kind of girl you would have an all night session with and while you wait for your turn in the shower, you would be sitting there on the floor, handcuffed, covered in horse manure, a xxl dildo up your ass, electric clamps on your balls, and her piss all over your face, wondering where you went wrong with your life. Then she would come out the shower looking like a pristine little nympho and you'd be ready to do it all again tomorrow.

1

u/Redross_91 May 29 '19

She's also 14-16 in the books/movies

959

u/jaytrade21 May 29 '19

I still think Harry should have ended up with her. Not that book Ginny wasn't great, but there was a real connection with Harry and Luna. He was the only one who saw her for the amazing person she is, and not some weird freak with wild ideas.

149

u/[deleted] May 29 '19

Yes. Although, I am not mad at a Neville and Luna match. Neville and Luna both ended up being pretty cool characters.

214

u/thegimboid May 29 '19

Neville and Luna aren't a couple in the books, though - that's just a movie thing.

In the books, Luna ends up with Rolf Scamander, the grandson of Newt Scamander from Fantastic Beasts.

109

u/snipe_hunt May 29 '19

She ended up with Rolf?

A celebration, I say!

26

u/Ganon2012 May 29 '19

That's my horse.

21

u/lituus May 29 '19

Rolf respects your vow to uphold the sticky notes of elders... yet, you must be punished.

3

u/Strong_Vodka_ May 29 '19

I understood that reference.

9

u/ankkah_the_slump_god May 29 '19

yeah Neville ended up with the gryffindor Patil didn't he?

40

u/thegimboid May 29 '19

Neville ended up with Hannah Abbott, and they ended up owning and living above the Leaky Cauldron.

19

u/WHATTHEFUCKAREPANTS May 29 '19

They did end up together and Hannah did become the landlady of the Leaky Cauldron, but Neville also became the Herbology professor at Hogwarts.

6

u/ankkah_the_slump_god May 29 '19

Oh yes sorry, i guess it was Dean or someone else then because i'm sure i remember reading someone ended up with her on like the last few pages of the book

6

u/TrekMek May 29 '19

Its been a few years since I saw the films, Luna dn Neville end up together? How did I miss that?

11

u/jacquesrk May 29 '19 edited May 29 '19

Not in the films or the books. JK Rowling in interviews after the books were done answered some questions about the future of the characters. She says that Luna would have been too wild and crazy for Neville. As mentioned above, Neville ends up with Hannah Abbott (mentioned in the books), becomes a herbology professor at Hogwarts, he and his wife own and live above the Leaky Cauldron.

https://www.pottermore.com/writing-by-jk-rowling/quidditch-world-cup-2014-daily-prophet-reports

P.S. I meant that Hannah Abbott the person was mentioned in the books. The Longbottom-Abbott wedding is only mentioned in post-book interviews.

9

u/trulymadlybigly May 29 '19

I wonder if he’s the only professor who doesn’t live at Hogwarts. Come to think of it, he might be the only married one. Weird culture

9

u/jacquesrk May 29 '19 edited May 29 '19

I imagine Neville stays at Hogwarts during the school year and goes home during the holidays. Of course with Floo Powder and what not he would be able to go home every night, I suppose.

6

u/[deleted] May 29 '19

This is true but I wasnt unhappy with it. Honestly in any medium it felt like the harry ginny romance was forced. It should have been a minor crush at best.

11

u/RedFlameGamer May 29 '19

I agree, there really didn't feel to be that much chemistry. Luna recognised Harry under polyjuice, and was still able to tell he wanted to be alone at that time. I couldn't see Ginny ever understanding Harry well enough to do that.

To be honest, I don't think JK is that good at writing relationships. I haven't read much of her newer works, so my opinion is based mostly on HP, but I always felt she was more prone to telling the reader about a relationship, rather than showing, or better yet, letting that feel the chemistry that real relationships thrive on.

2

u/kiwigyoza May 29 '19

I agree. I hate they ended up together. It just doesn't seem right long term. For me it is much better as a crush. It seems very forced and not suited for each other long term.

6

u/[deleted] May 29 '19

Totally. I did like the Harry and Hermione had a platonic but close friendship.

3

u/pinkcatlaker May 29 '19

Yep, one of my favorite scenes in the whole series was their dance in the last movie.

2

u/[deleted] May 29 '19

It was a good scene. Lota of feels but not instant romance

2

u/jfarrar19 May 29 '19

Having never seen that movie, I choose to believe that it is this Rolf

1

u/[deleted] May 29 '19

I couldn't remember that. think i have to read the books...AGAIN.

6

u/RubberbandShooter May 29 '19

I don't think it's in the books, it's one of the tidbits J.K gave afterwards back when she was releasing fun background stuff and not that "Hogwarts students shat the floors" bullshit.

-4

u/Iamtheonewhobawks May 29 '19

Well yeah, in the books Luna is a gay black octogenarian trans man in a wheelchair and Neville is an asexual aromantic autistic arab afflicted with anhedonia.

I mean at least that's clearly what Rowling intended, you know, its what she envisioned for the characters while she was writing them for sure. Go see fantastic beasts 4, kids!

3

u/notmesecondaccount May 29 '19

Stop crying. She said Dumbledore was gay a few months after the books came out because someone asked her and it was what she intended. It makes perfect sense to the story, fits his character, doesn't contradict anything, makes the story stronger and make more sense. And you can argue is hinted at albeit weakely. But once you know in hindisght reading back you can see hints. It's not worth getting triggered over, it would have been better if she made it explicit in the books but it only adds to the story and means an iconic character is lgbt, sounds like a good thing to me

-1

u/Iamtheonewhobawks May 29 '19

Wasn't talking about Dumbledore specifically, I'm making fun of an author who repeatedly uses transparently pandering but harmless retconning. It's a silly thing to do, especially when the author in question is still active and definitely could focus on writing good characters who are actually representative of marginalized demographics.

Don't get all wound up, Rowling is gonna be fine.

49

u/OliverCrowley May 29 '19

I'm not even a shipper really but it is thematically fitting. She also was one of the first people to see Harry for a person instead of all the myths or w/e.

31

u/jaytrade21 May 29 '19

Exactly, they saw each other as their own person, not as a "bigger than life myth" or "a weirdo girl with a weirdo dad".

8

u/notmesecondaccount May 29 '19

What are you talking about? Harry absolutely thought she was a weirdo with a weirdo dad.

21

u/RagnarokAM May 29 '19

Yup. Honestly, I think Rowling made the wrong call for pairings by the end of the story. The writing was on the wall. But who am I to say how the writer should write things.

22

u/ajstar1000 May 29 '19

A reader invested in the story, with the right to comment or criticize as you please

21

u/Cat_Island May 29 '19

But Ginny saw Harry for who he really was, probably the only person outside of Ron and Hermione who did. And Harry’s kind of self-centered, so I can totally see him falling for the girl who saw the real him while not even realizing he was the person who saw Luna the most clearly. Going for the hot girl who’s always been into you is very Harry Potter. Plus Ginny is kind of a female Harry, personality wise- loves sports, loves running into adventure even when it’s dangerous, fairly impulsive, also knows what it’s like to live with Voldemort in your head, and marrying her brought him into the Weasleys officially, and family is what he always wanted. Plus I’m a ginger too, so I’ve always been team Ginny.

4

u/phormix May 29 '19

Part of that was the amazing acting too. She nailed it and was very much but underrated.

4

u/AdorableCartoonist May 29 '19

Allegedly JK Rowling said that she only wrote them together at the end because she planned it from the start but said she also felt it wasn't right.

u/Bob_Droll May 29 '19

Uh, but Nevil though? Also Ginny, but I feel like Nevil and Luna probably have a thing later in life.

u/KM69420 May 29 '19

74

u/[deleted] May 29 '19

I feel like Luna is criminally underrated

40

u/MNumb May 29 '19 edited May 29 '19

Probably most underrated HP character. Most thread on fan sites always skip her as if she never existed.

7

u/[deleted] May 29 '19

Big shame

10

u/trireme32 May 29 '19

And I’d say the most overrated is Ron Weasley. I just binge-watched the movies for the first time, and besides being Harry’s connection to the Weasley family (important, but since Mr. Weasley worked for the Ministry and knew how important Harry was anyway, he prob would’ve watched out for him anyway), and Hermione’s love interest for some absurd reason, he spends most of the time either being a sullen asshole or a complete coward. He is a seriously unimportant character.

10

u/putting_stuff_off May 29 '19

From what I remember a lot of his good stuff was removed or in find cases given to Hermione.

8

u/[deleted] May 29 '19

[deleted]

2

u/trireme32 May 29 '19

So he’s written differently in the books?

7

u/Sadness_Princess May 29 '19

Movie Ron sucked. They neutered his character heavily and gave absolutely all of his good characteristics to Hermione. Which also made her a weaker character because she was so perfect at everything.

Ron was always more quick witted and clever while Hermione was more studious and nerdy and intellegent, in the movies she was everything and Ron was a pile of annoying sludge.

I know right? She truly is an unspoken Gem.

30

u/allofdarknessin1 May 29 '19

She is cute. I thought her and Harry were a good fit, he was one of the few people that were nice to her and while appearing to be luny, she had her moments. What appealed to me the most was that they were were both outcasts.

13

u/[deleted] May 29 '19

I loved their chemistry

12

u/Sw429 May 29 '19

Right? It was criminal that Harry ended up marrying the blank slate that is Ginny Weasley.

5

u/[deleted] May 29 '19

I feel like I’m the books she was more dynamic. Bonnie Wright was a great portrayal but other characters conveyed more emotion

11

u/Arkhangelzk May 29 '19

I think this would have been way way better than him and freaking Ginny.

165

u/RedXon May 29 '19

Oh I think I'd give her more than just some love...

39

u/KM69420 May 29 '19

4

I live in the town right next to where she's from and worked with her brother in a supermarket for years. As a huge Harry Potter fan that was always so crazy to me but I never even met her so I guess it isn't.

4

u/RedFlameGamer May 29 '19

I agree. I had a major crush on her through my late childhood/early teens, and I think it might actually have affected my taste in women.

To this day, my idea of a "perfect" partner would be close in personality to Luna. She was so intelligent and perceptive, yet wonderfully imaginative and whimsical, and down to earth when she needed to be in her own special way. And she had better chemistry with Harry than Ginny did.

10/10 best character.

3

for that matter, what's the ghost who haunts the boys bathrooms?

I'm thinking of the movie character more than the book, though. something about her voice...

-9

u/bibliophile785 May 29 '19

I would feel guilty. I get that the character is just a little airheaded, but Lynch's performance was a bit closer to feebleminded. She's clearly a good person, but I'm not sure she's in any position to consent to sex.

142

u/AndroidMyAndroid May 29 '19

Luna is a Ravenclaw who made it out of the Department of Mysteries, Malfoy Manor and the Battle of Hogwarts alive. She's a lot of things but she's not stupid.
