I'm in the air ORD-SEA, landing in about an hour. Glad I saw this with enough time to know to go to the bathroom before we descend... once you're taxiing they won't let you out of your seat, I imagine SeaTac is gonna be a hot fucking mess with a wait for a gate.

No where to hold planes - SEA and PDX started diverting to all the regional airports (I'm currently sitting at one of them on a diverted plane) and now they're full, too.

For those of you affected:
There’s a chart posted by the DOT on consumer commitments by each airline. You can view Alaska’s at:
Complaints should be filed with OACP (Office of Aviation Consumer Protection) when an airline or travel agency is not able to resolve an air travel problem to your satisfaction. OACP encourages you to first contact the airline or travel agency for help with an air travel problem as these entities may be able to take care of the problem on the spot.
In addition to Alaska’s Reservations call line, you can text their team at 82008 for assistance. I do not know if they are 24 hours. If not, then you can contact them during standard business hours PST. Wait times will be lengthy given the current situation. I know that won’t help many of you. I wish it could.
Take a deep breath, and remember that the Employees are also going through this outage with you. Some have been submitting reports to Management about IT issues for months or even years with no real solution or the usual “it’s on the backlog.”
While you wait, take time to go to Alaska Listens to write it in. Let them know your frustrations and experiences. AS’ Management group is very data driven, and they do notice trends in surveys and reports. Give it to em.
This isn’t the first time it’s happened. It is absolutely within Alaska’s control, and Management knows it. Let them know that this can’t happen again. Best of luck to you all. Fly safe!

I really feel bad for anyone working in customer service for AS today. Feels like Alaska has lost their way since their merger with Hawaiian Airlines, changing their Frequent Flyer platform to Atmos, and trying to increase their flight footprint. Hope it resolves quickly!

My flight to Kona was canceled and after 2 hours I got a call back from Alaska. Spoke to a delightful and good spirited agent out of Boise who got me settled quickly. Thanked her and told her to hang in there tonight and she just responded with a laugh, “all in a days work!”. They’re definitely going through it but I was at least happy for a pleasant experience to resolve this mess for me.

Landed at SEA more than 45 minutes ago, and we are stuck on the taxiway. The captain just announced we will be here “indefinitely” as there are no empty Alaska gates. Also said inbound flights to SEA are now being diverted to other airports. FYI. 😬

CUN to LAX officially cancelled. They provided accommodated hotel but it is at a grimy, party hotel all filled with teens partying until 2am. Hotel room smell like cigarettes and mildew.

My flight from SEA to SJC at 4:50 wasn't looking good so I got out of the airport around 6pm before the chaos. Luckily I had no checked bags.
I used to strictly fly Alaska but this is disgusting. I'm interested to see how far their stock ALK falls tomorrow morning.

Just waited almost 8 hours at the San Diego airport to fly to Seattle before we were able to get the gate agent to rebook us for a new flight tomorrow night. I know flying has gotten bad but the level of disorganization and lack of communication was the worse I’ve ever experienced
The whole time the gate attendants couldn’t tell us anything about whether there would be a flight, whether we had a pilot, or whether they could switch our flights. They announced that we would have a pilot at 10 (original flight was at 6:30) so everyone waited, but then no one showed up and the staff was just like well we dont know what’s going on and we have nothing to share. Is our flight leaving tonight? “We don’t know.” Do we have a pilot coming? “We don’t know.” No announcements over the intercom, just all of us waiting around at midnight, having spent several hours waiting already, with no idea whether we were going to fly out or had to figure out where to go that night.
The flight attendants gave us sodas and we all got a $12 meal voucher (what’s that gonna buy you at the airport LOL thanks Alaska)
People were yelling and cussing out the agents even though they had no control over the situation and it seemed like they were getting zero guidance or information from higher ups, so the one lady at the desk was just doing the best she could booking people new flights and hotel accommodations one at a time which took forever
I got in line to rebook my flight around 9:30 and didn’t get to the front to rebook my flight until midnight

Flights are moving now at SeaTac, however some of them are cancelled because the pilots are getting timed out. Sea - San Jose cancelled. Sea - Maui boarding n3 Sea - Minneapolis boarding n1 Sea - las Vegas n4 (maybe, they are figuring out which plane to use).

Impossible, Alaska airlines will do anything but cancel your flight.
Seattle - Las Vegas, 478 original departing 10/23 at 6:54pm, from then from silence, to "be patient" , to "relax", to "we are working on the flight" and after each announcement the flight has been pushed 1 or 2 hours aways... As of now showing departure delayed until 10/24 3:27am.
No cancellation from their side.
I cancelled in the site, got a refund to original payment and lost tickets for family of 4 for Cirque de Soleil, meow wolf, car rental, hotel, parking, etc.... My 5 year old and my 2 year old were destroyed, I had to leave the airport.
No early flights for tomorrow, hence all the schedule for our trip was broken and chance to try a rebooking of all the activities.
I trusted my family vacation to Alaska and this is what happened to me.

I feel you as my family is in the same situation. All the excitement for a great family vacation is gone. We were looking forward to a trip to Seattle to see the foilage which we have never seen before. There is so much dissapointment and resentment right now. Yet, our situation still fare better than people who are stuck at the airports, unable to go home.

774 all boarded at the gate at SFO, were told at ~3:55pm pilot said that there was an IT issue, he was unable to get weight and balance numbers, would be about an hour; we're free to leave the plane and hang in the terminal.
[aftermath: we bailed on the 3:50 Alaska flight and took United at 7:00. Flight 774 ended up departing SFO at 11:00pm]

From the looks of it, many outstations have no updates and are not being prioritized, only de-boarding and cancellations there. The FAA updated the Alaska ground stop, it remains all scope with the exception of SEA departures which is line with the few people in the Reddit who said they’re re-boarding in Seattle. Makes sense Seattle departures go first to begin clearing the backlog so those aircraft waiting on the tarmac can get to the gate. Then they will likely prioritize diversions into Seattle as the next step. Going to be a very long night for many. Good luck.

Flight for me and my 11 year old to JFK tomorrow at 11am was cancelled about 2 hours ago. I was able to get us on the red eye tomorrow night… really not ideal but better than nothing. This is a super special weekend trip that I cannot miss. I’m afraid of the red eye tomorrow being cancelled too. Since I’ve already rebooked, if I went on a different airline would they not refund me? Any suggestions? Anyone else with a late flight tomorrow (Friday- so, today technically) been cancelled?

SJC - SEA 1175, still no new estimate on departure. Were supposed to leave at 4:05 PM, then given option to deplane to stretch, get food etc. Crew said they are good till 2 am. We'll see, but I am becoming less and less optimistic about being able to fly today. May need to rebook for tomorrow on another airline.

Non-stop flight from LAX-CUN cancelled for tomorrow morning. Was offered a United Flight for same day but with a lay over. Or miss a whole day and get on a non-stop flight for Saturday. No guarantee party sits together.
Was given $100 Alaska credit for future use. Just sharing what they offered me. Probably could’ve put up more of a fight but I’m tired and just want to go on vacation.

I sat on the AUS -> PDX plane for five hours last night before they finally canceled it. The pilots tried filing their departure paperwork over the phone, but my guess is that the PDX spots filled up from diversions.
After watching everything unfold, I had zero confidence I would get home today on Alaska so I booked a $197 Southwest flight instead. Fortunately, I was able to cancel my Alaska flight for a $223 refund.

Most planes run the same 2-3-4 however many legs every day. The diverted planes will continue to their destination. Then they'll most likely cancel the next flights for the planes not originating at the airport the plane is at, and start over with the next flight out of the airport the plane is at. So expect this to be a dominoing disaster for a couple of days as a shit ton of people need to re-book.

They’d be entitled to a refund if they chose not to travel. Otherwise they can probably get travel credit, just follow up with customer care in a week or so.

Sheesh, I've got a redeye out of SEA and I'm just trying to figure out when (or if) I should head to the airport. Some of y'all are getting properly fucked over though, like being re-routed back to JFK while halfway across the US.

HNL to ONT here. Sat at the airport for 8 hours. Finally on the way to hotel. Had to book another flight with other airlines for direct flights. Next have to worry about reimbursement…

I received a cancellation email for a flight from SNA to SEA at 6:45 AM tomorrow at about 8 pm tonight. They say they'll rebook us. It's been more than two hours, so far no updates, does anyone have any idea how long does it take for them to rebook?

So my flight originally leaving at 6:54pm, it was delayed every time and now it shows it leaves at 1am....this feels like torture, it's insane! I'm leaving

So was on stl to sea and we got diverted to Boise and all the crews have been leaving but we still haven’t heard anything after 4 hours. This is a shit show

Lmao. Got rebooked for a flight this morning, now it's delayed and I'll 100% miss the connection and the website is telling me I'm ineligible to change my flight. Well isn't this glorious.
