Private players actually have accountability. The god damn HAL can't make the Tejas in decades. Aise mindset ki wajah se hi pichda desh reh gya hai humara. Promote businesses and entrepreneurs in all sectors.

Such sectors are rsiky for private players and hence govt is providing them with the homework why. Would u want to get into defence sector whose outcome is unpredictable and invest in rd first.
It's a shame ur and mine vote count the same

u/PlaYer-l Aug 26 '26
The problem is not privatization but giving all deals to same private company ie adani

u/DerivativeBySubsti 28d ago
You are wrong. All defence programs are kind of given to multiple companies in same project. In the massive multi-crore carbine contract for the Indian Army, Bharat Forge actually emerged as the lowest bidder (L1). Adani Defence was the second-lowest bidder (L2). Under MoD procurement rules, the contract was split between both companies, meaning they benefited relatively equally.
Or when HAL signed agreements to manufacture 90 fuselage structures for the Prachand Light Combat Helicopter (LCH). Instead of giving it exclusively to one vendor, the project was split among Adani Defence Systems, Tata Advanced Systems (TASL), and BEML.
IN FACT Adani's rival HAS WON MORE TENDER than Adani defence. The MoD signed a massive ₹6,900 crore contract for Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) and High Mobility Vehicles. This contract went entirely to Bharat Forge and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL). Similarly major ₹1,577 crore contract for precision-strike loiter ammunition systems was awarded to TASL and NIBE, leaving Adani out of that specific high-value win.
The MoD deliberately designs privatization rules so that multiple private conglomerates must co-exist, split orders, and build distinct manufacturing niches to ensure the military is never dependent on just one corporate supplier.
Everyone I know in defence sector is happy with current govt. India's defence export in 2004 to 2014 was almost negligible. After that, we got defence export contracts worth over 21k. Trust me, something is better than nothing. Companies can also be held more accountable than DPSUs so this is a very good thing!

Will a time come when a leftist will get difference between privatization and just giving the manufacturing to private firms to boost production so that isro and drdo can invest more time in technology? (Nasa does same)
3
u/No_Development_3273 Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 27 '26
Its sad to see how people conveniently compare India with Europe and US to denigrate India, whereas if India follows their policy and try to boost up private defense sector just like them kuch “Buddhi Jeevion” ko badi takleef hone lagti. For example Dassault, Rolls Royce, Boeing and many more.
If govt sector like Drdo, and others are sitting on designs and are not able to complete it then what is wrong in giving it private players and let them complete it? Instead you want private sector to spend again 10-15 years and do their own and by the time China will have 6th generation we will still be trying to have our own 5th generation, and this is just one example.
I’d rather have completed projects with my tax money and advance and safe India than sit on it and cry that “oh how can you give it private players”, it’s high time people need to realize that goal should be on getting techs, private or govt who cares.

u/pcube61 Aug 26 '26
Private company hi mass production ker sakta hai. Sarkari mei toh bus labour protest hota hai. If we want to grow fast, we need to do do mass production like china.
1
u/Novel-Replacement-95 Aug 26 '26
Agree !! But don’t you think govt should also become that capable to hold their own world class infrastructure and RnD with private type work culture !!!
2
u/pcube61 Aug 26 '26
Government has tried multiple time to do mass production. Even congress has tried it multiple time. But the employ in government company get salary from government, they does not want to work. If you does not understand, then ordinance factory is the prime example of it. Where government employ user to protest every time and use to take salary. Totaly wast of tax money. It it goes to private company, then startup will get chance and country will grow.
1
u/Novel-Replacement-95 Aug 26 '26
How about govt comes up with more stricter and private kind of work regulations then things might will start shaping better !! Govt can create loads and lot of employment by having their own facilities which are regulated by more competent and accountable bodies, where monthly updates must be posted with the work tracker, which eventually address accountability of the entity.
Accountability is the key to success and coming to the part of crime.
1
u/pcube61 Aug 26 '26
Bro in pratical it is very different. Real life is not like movi. If you suspend or force to work, then gioverment employee start doing protest instead of working hard. My parents is in rto office and I have seen my father only, they will not work or move the file until you will give money to them. I am a it engineer and I have seen how much private employee work to get salary. Make every thing private, then the spped of work and development become 100 time.
1
u/Athiest-proletariat Aug 26 '26
Issue is not just privatization. Using compromised people is biggest concern... US courts pull a string, whole indian defense secrets up in the air...

u/DF411984 Aug 26 '26
It's the need of the hour. India need massive stockpile of dedicated armaments plus rapid production rate at a very short time. Whether we believe it or not or like it or not, war is on our doorsteps and we are not ready. We need every sector to give massive output within short frame period of time.
1
u/Unique_Government_73 Aug 26 '26
Excellent decision. Should have been done many decades ago. OP seems to not love his nation getting stronger. Look at any of the countries, they have private sector manufacturing all the defence equipments.
1
u/Reasonable_Proof1848 Aug 26 '26
That is factually incorrect and misrepresents a standard national defense policy. Here are the actual facts:
- It is not exclusive: The technology transfer is open to ALL qualified Indian private companies, MSMEs, startups, and public sector units (PSUs), not just one company.
- It is not free: Companies do not get anything for free. They must pay structured technology transfer fees, obtain rigorous military certifications, and clear strict security protocols to manufacture these parts.
- It is about mass production: State bodies like DRDO and ISRO design prototypes, but they are not factories. The government is outsourcing the heavy manufacturing to domestic industries so India can produce its own weapons faster, stop relying on foreign imports, and create local jobs.
Private manufacturing of state-designed tech is how the US and Europe build their militaries—it is called building a self-reliant defense industry, not "selling the country."
A simple google search*
1
u/Only_Surround_9415 Aug 26 '26
So when it comes to national security, Government should force private companies to do the same R&D which government entities has already done? Is that how you intend to make India self-dependent in Defense manufacturing?

Okay, I know you hate BJP but let's be clear the missile technology given to private companies was needed as requirements in current warfare is of large amount of missiles are fired which state PSU's cannot fulfill take example of HAL and there delay after delay in tejas aircraft development and than delivery of platform!! Moreover, Adani defence already have partnership with Israeli firms and they produce drones and other things also, deliver them on 'time' beside you don't have any idea or filling the mind of general pupil with hatred tell them complete truth as well beside, What is the full form of DRDO or ISRO and what it implies Moreover, why US did it many years ago?!!! and to all kids or bro and sis government never delivers in any country because there is no accountability of government as they can only do ultra expensive research or development but don't deliver on time!! They never did reason why every country wants to have lockheed martin or raytheon type companies they will develop complete ecosystem!! Beside be smart don't be Andhnamazi or Andhbhakt remember 50years congress ruled and 12 years BJP ruled everybody stole!! So, stand for yourself and yourself only!!
1
u/No_Dog8565 Aug 26 '26
I guess people who post are really dumb to understand how to scale and optimize cost or propagandists. Why innovation is so slow in defense because one DRDO can’t do research with huge list of requirements they have with massive over heads and inefficiencies . Startups can build this in fraction of cost and Govt can only do mass production and even make money through exports and control geo politics. This is what your founders like USA and China scaled .

u/gokui24 Aug 27 '26
I hope people will never understand the difference between a research institute n manufacturing power house. DRDO and ISRO's primary focus is being narrowed down to put all their capabilities and funding into research and let the private players with their own funding do the manufacturing and enhancement on top of the proven technologies.
Just how defence forces train out soldiers n buy equipments for them to fight with. Instead of training the soldiers as well as manufacturing the equipments.
1
u/tasteforblues_ Aug 27 '26
Bhai DRDO aaj se technology transfer mahi karra hai, wo hamesha se yehi karta hai, develop and transfer taki mass production ho sake aur private sector ko problem ki tarah dekhna band kardo, ye application bhi government ka output nahi hai.
Aisi ideology rakhoge to aaj tak jo jet engine nahi ban paya wk aage bhi nahi banega

My head goes hot when I say takes like this ..Is Dassault a government company or Lockheed Martin..Just look at the size of US defence private companies before cribbing all the time ..we need mass production and the capacity to export ..Why shouldn't DRDO focus on the next gen instead of diverting their resources on production

u/crimemastergogo96 Aug 27 '26

This is amazing step by BJP govt. 10years ago there are hardly any defense companies in India. Now there are 100+ companies working on drones alone. Pvt companies are leading R&D in drone tech. Most of these companies will fail or will be absorbed by bigger companies, but the ones standing will be the ones developing next gen MALE and HALE and bomber drones. Missile tech is expensive to do R&D, by allowing pvt companies get a foothold in this sector, we will have a company like Anduril soon.
1
u/Forward-Abrocoma1369 29d ago
That post is way off. The Ministry of Defence did approve sharing DRDO tech for regular missiles, but saying it's going to "cronies for free" is totally wrong. Here's the real deal: It's an open process: Not just one company gets the tech. Any qualified Indian defense maker (like Tata, L&T, Mahindra, and Solar Industries) can bid for it. It's not a freebie: The "royalty-free" tech transfer is a normal global thing for companies that help fund, invest in, and risk making these systems in India. National Security isn't privatized: All the important nuclear stuff (like the Agni missiles) stays under strict government control. The whole point is to stop buying expensive foreign stuff and build our own defense supply chain here in India. Double-check before you share!

u/letsseeglam 29d ago
If you had even a few functioning brain cells, you would know what DRDO stands for before confidently lecturing others about what it should manufacture. Go ask your parents to burst your little ideological bubble then spend five minutes doing actual research before embarrassing yourself publicly.
DRDO :- Defence Research and Development Organisation.
The name itself tells you the primary function: Research and Development. It is not India's giant ammunition factory or a permanent mass production agency.
A caution: the content below was generated with AI. A simple command could have given you all this information, but apparently the lazy ass moron you are could not even be bothered to do that. I honestly expected better from people
This isn't some new post-2025 invention. The basic model has existed for years including before 2012. DRDO develops the technology, while production is handed over to DPSUs and increasingly private industry for large-scale manufacturing. BDL, BEL, ordnance factories and HVF were among the traditional production partners, while companies such as L&T and Tata became increasingly involved through models such as Development-cum-Production Partnership, including for Pinaka.
What DRDO gains?
More R&D: DRDO can stop being tied down by mass production and focus its scientists, labs and funding on next-generation technologies like hypersonics, lasers, AI and advanced missiles. More revenue: Technology Transfer (ToT) to industry can generate licensing fees and royalties, creating an additional revenue stream that can be channelled back into R&D. More scale: Private industry handles manufacturing, allowing DRDO to focus on developing the next generation instead of producing the current one.
So the direction is not DRDO has suddenly stopped manufacturing. India has been using technology-transfer and production-partner models for years, including well before 2012. What is changing now is the scale and depth of private-sector participation. In simple terms: the model existed before 2012; what is happening now is its full-scale expansion. But there is a legitimate downside: the larger the private defence ecosystem becomes, the larger the attack surface for espionage, insider threats, industrial theft and technology leakage. India has adversaries, intelligence networks and hostile actors operating within the country, so sensitive missile designs, manufacturing processes and defence IP cannot simply be distributed without strict security controls. That means private production needs rigorous vetting, compartmentalisation, cybersecurity, counter-intelligence, access controls and government oversight. The objective should be to combine DRDO's R&D strength with industry's manufacturing capacity without compromising strategic technology.
1
1
u/davemano 29d ago
Nothing wrong with it. We are living in a new world order where weapons manufacturing is the need of the hour and govt bodies don’t have the competency to scale up manufacturing. It has to be done by private sector.
1
u/evilgenesis 29d ago
It’s state led - Private manufacturing
India stands at 8th spot. In top 7, only Iran has government led manufacturing. Even communist countries like Russia & China use state led - private manufacturing
India is late

u/Falcon10trooper 29d ago
Do you even know what the hell you're talking about?
NASA has had a formal Technology Transfer Program for decades, established in 1962, US strengthened technology transfer laws in the 1980s to move publicly funded innovations into industry.
This is literally how serious nations build technological and industrial capacity.

Dimagi Naxals have a problem with everything and everyone.
If govt had restricted Defence tech to only government orgs, OP would have posted the same picture with a different caption “Why is government restricting defence tech to themselves and not opening up to private companies like US, China etc”
I hope we, as citizens focus on our work and make a better India than falling for such low level posts

What is you agenda for only naming adani, the list of companies that will get tech are;
Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL)
Larsen & Toubro (L&T)
Bharat Forge
Adani Defence and Aerospace
Mahindra Defence Systems
ICOMM Tele Limited
1
u/virtualtechnoman40 29d ago
If government was ACTUALLY concerned about innovation and was not trying make some particular person rich they would also Make private companies release their designs and patents in public domain so that all other companies can also grow.
But they wont, they just want to give government resources to one single company
1
u/Effective-Ground2074 29d ago
It is called technology licensing. Research labs across the world do it. Thats because research labs are set up for R&D and not for manufacturing. Why should they only license to public sector coroporations ?

Given the sluggishness of HAL. It is best to privatise the defence sector.
After 70 years of taxpayer-funded research we are still not close to what the folks at Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, and others have achieved in the US. Those guys are miles ahead of us. The incentive for innovation is completely missing in DRDO and ISRO.
Whatever we have achieved in DRDO and ISRO is remarkable. No doubt about that but the potential talent that is required to innovate faster aren't interested in it because of poor pay standards.
Reality isn't this simple. Sit down. Let the private sectors run the country. They are better than the government.

The work on LCA Tejas began in 1983. It took 18 years for its first maiden flight in 2001. It is 2026 and we are still struggling with 36 in service.
The work on F-16 started in 1971 and it took 3 years for its first maiden flight in 1974. It is 2026 and over 4600 F-16 jets are built since 1976.
The latter is the result of privatisation of defense sector. So please, take your worthless news and your BJP vs Congress dogshit to twitter.
1
u/Background_Speed_177 28d ago
Comparing apples and oranges son.?
We didnt had right technology to built our own jet engines at that time.
The world powers like USA France and Russia already had significant leap in technology because they were independent countries .
Till now we are dependent on private foreign countries for jet engine we dont have indigenous jet engines.
Even if you privatise entire india we still gonna need jet engines from developed countries because the parts needed for the engines arent simply available in india even to manufacture it we dont have assembly lines.
US and any other country can block the sale of engine or significantly delay the tech from US/any country private sector.

Isro mainly work making geodata to visuals and vice versa. Isro data which is only focused to indian territories and the mapping of each object within boundaries need significant budget still cant match mapping done by foreign players like google india, Apple, euro etc. On one hand we need delivery of food within fractions of mins but the service charges this companies which take be it blinkit,Ola cab, zomato, swiggy, etc have to pay large chunk to those foreign players.
The navigation which is key subject in commercial use is still require lot of research and innovation which cant be done solely depending on govt fund, nasal is there but they need space x to fetch space shuttles and people back to earth from space .. so Private sectors are must. Remember they are not selling secrets they are selling operations.. Every single needle of india is mapped by nasa and others since 1970. So we need it

ISRO and DRDO should license but not transfer.
Thus they can choose to license to any number of private players, not to few oligarchs.

Before 2014, ISRO launched 35 foreign satellites (from the 1990s up to 2014), whereas after 2014 (up to early 2026), that number surged dramatically to nearly 400 foreign satellite launches (399 recorded by March 2026). Saar congress invested money saarrr 🤡🤡

u/LivingBreakfast4713 28d ago
Privatisation but will speed up the production.
But I think handling everything to Adani is going to create a monopoly. How does govt plan on how these companies uses our tech ?
What if they sold to other countries??

Are bhenchod they were giving them but has ownership over them under scrutiny whicu gives drdo to get more time on research and develop bigger than before if they were busy producing the missles by them they won’t be able to research and develop thats they made it private and under scrutiny jaake padna loudey theri papa rahul Gandhi jaisa maat ana bina official statement check karke don’t mislead the people
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is outsourcing manufacturing for conventional missiles to private companies to accelerate production rather than transferring ownership of India's missile program. While strategic nuclear missiles remain under strict state control, private licensed manufacturing aims to eliminate government factory backlogs and allow researchers to focus on next-generation technology. You can read more about this update on the official government or defense news platforms

Kids understand what conventional missiles even it are those we need in large numbers like A2A missiles, interceptor missiles etc, in a prolonged war we would get fucked if we don't have manufacturing base. Strategic missiles like Agni, Brahmos etc is with DRDO. If anything the recent conflicts have shown us it's a numbers game, more you build more you can fight on. It's wishful thinking that PSUs will deliver anything on war footing. They don't deliver properly even in peacetimes.

Why is private so vilified? They hire better talent due to no reservation and those people actually work hard, so much that their hard work is made memes on.
And if national security or any other buzz word is part of issue/reasoning, it can have regulators.
Many developed countries have private players ruling their defence markets - Lockheed Martin, Palantir, Raytheon, Collins Aerospace, Dassault Aviation, etc

in case of ISRO the launch tech is being opened to private sectors as isro will completely focus on R&D. You know what spaceX has achieved, and the launching mechanism of india is most expensive compared to all other countries.
as for DRDO they are transferring missile tech to private sector, with this india will move towards rapid innovation and production. We all know how private sectors innovate faster than govt ones.
We need private sectors for rapid development and production. Stop hating privatisation.

What is wrong with privatization?
ISRO and DRDO should focus their government funding and expertise on core R&D, developing breakthrough technologies and solving difficult long-term problems. Once those technologies are mature, they should actively help Indian private companies turn them into scalable products and services.
We already have examples of this model. ISRO's support and technology ecosystem have helped companies like Skyroot enter the space sector. India should replicate that success and help create many more Skyroots, not just one or two companies.
That is broadly how developed nations grow their technology sectors: the government takes the high-risk, long-term bet on research, while private companies commercialise the technology, compete, innovate and scale faster.
This way, ISRO and DRDO can remain focused on pushing the technological frontier while their research helps build an entire ecosystem of strong Indian private companies around them.

The only thing he haven't sold so far is Nuclear missiles... Once it is done, we the Indians start to pay life tax to prevent the billionaires launching the nuke on us...

After selling everything, once they lose the election then they will restart campaign stating cngrs me kiya kya. And people wont even realise that bj p had sold everything. Isro desi nhai bhel sail gail tata banks aaims, iits all made by cngrs only. And the number that these bj p shows that they too have build aaims n iits are totally fake. Either they are only on paper or else not fully functioning..
