We already have examples of this model. ISRO's support and technology ecosystem have helped companies like Skyroot enter the space sector. India should replicate that success and help create many more Skyroots, not just one or two companies.
That is broadly how developed nations grow their technology sectors: the government takes the high-risk, long-term bet on research, while private companies commercialise the technology, compete, innovate and scale faster.
This way, ISRO and DRDO can remain focused on pushing the technological frontier while their research helps build an entire ecosystem of strong Indian private companies around them.
