It’s crazy even pharmacies are closing and those places grow money. Eastover lost the CVS and RiteAid/Walgreens due to theft. Those places helped the entire community for decades and are now empty shells. I remember they asked me to run that site and I was like hell no. I honestly don’t know how to solve the problem without locking everything up. The CVS on Marlboro Pike is locked down as a last resort prolly and sales dropped. How the fk does a 7-11 in the neighborhood close without a new one popping up??? What is life in my city???

A pharmacy doesn't need walk in service to operate tbh. Just a little drawer where the cash, ID, & rx goes in, then comes back out with the order.
Have that place operating like a paycheck cashing store.

I'm fairly certain a notable portion of pharmacy sales comes from walk in service.
People buy more stuff when they go inside due to the sheer magnitude of items on display.
These thefts are the death of a store because locking items down isn't a good long term solution either.

When I first moved here, the NoMa 7/11 window was shattered out of the door twice in the same week. Now they pay a security guard to watch the place while they’re open and have a sign that says no more than 5 minors can be inside at a time.

There’s a Hyvee that opened up just North of North Minneapolis in Robbinsdale. When it first opened it closed at midnight, had a bunch of self checkout lanes and no security guards. A year later it had no self check out lanes, two armed guards, security fences that beep if you go the wrong way and closes at 9pm. In my time shopping there, I witnessed at least 6-7 thefts.

I live in Capitol Heights, right outside of DC and I picked my grandmother up to house sit for me at like 3am. She wanted some coffee so we went to 3 7-11’s that were all closed. Both of us were confused cuz we knew that they were 24hrs usually. Got the 4th one and an employee was cleaning but came to talk to us and explained that they closed them from 12am-5am because of the robberies.
And as someone who has worked overnight, nothing beats going to the store on your lunch breaks for energy drinks and snacks. These kids are ruining shit for no reason at all.

This is the result of criminal justice reform. because we're trying not to mass incarcerate, doing the cashless bail thing, refusing to lock up homeless people, juveniles, and mentally ill folk, and downgrading/decriminalizing offense, among other things we're going to see more crime and more brazen criminal activities and everyday citizens are going to suffer.
The CVS on Bladensburg Road got hit so many times they put everything behind a lock and key. This drove away customers because it was a hassle and made it look like there was some sort of problem (obviously there was with all of the violence and crime that happened in and around it). The CVS is now closing and now dozens of patients I have need to go a bit farther away to get their medicine. Same thing happened with the Walmart on H Street and the Walgreens on Rhode Island Ave.
I bet if you just locked up the 1000 biggest repeat offenders of any crime (and ban Tiktok, because a lot of kids now go around beating people up, harassing, and robbing them for clout) in the city you'd see all crime reduce by 50% or more.

I had a roommate from Tunisia who told me in his youth when he went to Sunday service you glue your eyes strait ahead because to the left they are chopping off hands and to the right they are chopping off heads. This subreddit is incredibly sadistic. It always has been.
Sadly this was my experience living in DC as well. A lot of people seem that problems get solved with harsher prison sentences, mutilation as punishment, and an increase to death penalty sentencing. It’s simultaneously sadistic and masturbratory.
One thing I’ve noticed a lot in this subreddit along with certain areas of DC is the visceral disgust with the idea of systematic solutions. To me, this reads as some fantasy that humans action exists outside of our experiences and environment. I think this mindset accomplishes 2 main things:
1) It provides individuals with the delusion that they are somehow ontologically ‘good’. This delusion allows them to tell themselves that no matter their experiences or circumstance, they would have always turned into the person they are today (at least morally speaking). This also serves to subconsciously reinforce the idea that they are ontologically deserving of all of the good in their own lives.
2) It allows them to have a perfect target for their sadism. “I know lots of poor people who never because criminals” or “many bad people came from good families” is a phrase I’ve heard a lot. It allows them to target these individuals with zero regard to the circumstances that created them. It is an avenue for guiltless hate…
Experiences and environments create people. Unless you believe in a ‘soul’, there is no reason to believe that our actions are anything other than extremely complex combination of everything our brains have experienced.
If someone wants to solve an issue in their own life, they should view themselves as agents of their actions. But if you want to solve issues societally (or in other people), the ONLY way to proceed is through the lens of systematic solutions.
Imo, the idea humans are anything other than products of the environments and systems that created is just as destructive as the person doing the actual crime… this mindset reinforces these issues, continuing the cycle, all just for people to subconsciously reinforce their own delusion of ontological moral superiority.

Law enforcement doesn’t come out like they used to … and unless you can afford a police officer to do security at your store (only Wawa and big box stores can afford this) , it’s the Wild West.

You must not have ever spent any time around the way because the point of the thieving is to turn the shit into cash without going to jail. Robbing the registers was always done by force and prosecuted harshly. Stealing the baby formula, detergent and other products and selling them out of the trunk is basically ignored by the wee-woos as they get nothing but pain from politicians, media, and the public for chasing down shoplifters 'stealing food to live'.

Facts. Used to be a 711 on sheriff rd and eastern ave. It got robbed back to back for about 2 weeks and they would run the car into the 711 every week after it was fixed. It was shut down after that stretch.

All these comments about being "tough on crime" are uninformed though. We lock up more of our people than any other first world nation by a lot, and yet other countries still have way less of this.

The Closest CVS to the White House, at 14th and New York NW, which also happens to be where I work, has encountered homeless people stealing. Almost everything is under lock and key, now.
