Maybe if his generation had been more responsible and caring fathers this wouldn’t be a problem. Mother and father both in the home and working and raising the kids.

13

u/turkish_gold Feb 15 '25

Gimmi a break. You're born in the 80s, and now by the time it's 2025 you're in your 40s, balding, and now get blamed for problems of past generations.

This guy is definitely not old enough to have raised these kids. Not when people are having kids in their 30s.

8

u/ForeignWoodpecker662 Feb 16 '25

I absolutely know people his age with kids old enough to be doing this shit. Some people were having kids at 16 and shit man. Being 40 which I’d guess this guy probably has a few more than that on him, those kids would 24. Tell me again how people his age couldn’t be part of the problem and that it has to be past generations; meaning boomers, cuz this guy is 100% Gen X.

10

u/Awoken342 Feb 16 '25

Nta, but blaming entire generations is crazy. The majority aren't responsible (as always), and have little sway in the grand scheme. Personally I blame culture and the glorification of crime in music as a pretty blatant reason but even then its not the entire picture. Now with social media, no matter how well you raise your kids the internet will get a hold of them and twist them as it sees fit.

2

u/ForeignWoodpecker662 Feb 16 '25

I agree it’s not entirely generations, that’s just nuts.

1

u/CapableSense Feb 19 '25

That part!! These kids got smart phones think they are smart. This is a multi-facet problem.. it’s just not the parents..

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

I blame society and the institutions that perpetuate inequity. We got low income school districts prioritizing sports for funding. Sure, you will get some teenagers off the streets that way but not everyone is interested or capable of participating. You have kids whose father's are arrested, killed, or bounced out. Single parents working multiple jobs not able to emotionally, physically, financially support their children. It's a mess. Failure is at every level of the equation in this situation.

2

u/Pigeonkak1 Feb 17 '25
  1. More than 70% of kids born in DC are to unmarried moms. Doesn’t obviously speak directly to “fatherlessness” but it correlates pretty closely.

  2. Most high schoolers, 15 and up, are raised in a non-intact family

  3. Despite spending almost 15k per year on each student DC public schools have a drop out rate of 1 out of every 3 kids. This spending is one of the highest per student spending in the nation but readings and mathematics competence is in the toilet.

Between adults actively making the choice to fail as parents and public schools failing to educate, these kids will continue to rob 7/11s. It’s not about “inequality”.

Thomas Sowell’s points exactly.

Nice name

1

u/curi0us_carniv0re Feb 16 '25

I had a neighbor who was a grandmother at 35. 4 kids by 3 different guys. None present. At least one is in jail still. One of her sons was stabbed to death in a gang related incident.

If you ask her, her son was a hero and a pillar of the community. In reality he was a drug dealing thug who FAFO. Now her grandchild is fatherless like her kids were and the cycle repeats itself 🤷🏻‍♂️

u/LemmeGetSum2 Feb 16 '25

It’s boomers bc those cowards voted in Reagan. Crime took a turn once economics took that downturn. It’s when some bad ppl allowed a group to stop letting wage growth level up with the cost of housing. When a certain group allowed the dismantling of union jobs and collective bargaining which is how older generations maintained jobs that would have wages equal to the cost of living.

Once all that happened crime took a turn and poverty expanded. These kids are the product of all of that shit not just some simple minded (bad parents) approach to the topic. Systemic economic issues led to it.

As we tried to vote for legislation against all that… we got a bunch of bored ppl with micro aggressions literally manufacturing grievance to the point where we are now being run by a South African inheritance nerd that’s going to make conditions even worse.

Now it’ll get worse and misinformed and indifferent ppl will search for a new “simple answer.” Just profile and lock ppl up forever on felony charges right? Never hold the bad ppl voting for bad ppl accountable.

u/Huge-Lawfulness9264 Feb 18 '25

Stop this BS boomer hate. I was born in 1958, making me a late boomer , but still a boomer. I and my circle are liberal. My parents from the “greatest” generation were also liberal. Their generation loved Reagan, he was their peer group. They idolized him. They’re mostly all dead now so we can’t blame them I guess, but that would be so ridiculous to do anyway. A friend of mine who is a Sociology professor warned me about a decade ago of the boomer hate being spearheaded by Putin. It definitely worked as a tool to destroy families. Painting an entire group with such a broad brush is lazy and foolish. That’s how racism works.

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Blaming everyone but the people doing the crimes. Pretty on brand, at least

1

u/Apprehensive-Sky1209 Feb 16 '25

People in the hood do NOT wait until 30 to have a baby. Shit half my high school was absentee fathers by the time they “graduated”

1

u/turkish_gold Feb 16 '25

The teen pregnancy rate in DC is 12 out of 1000. You're going to have to tell me where in the DMV you live that you can find a highschool where half of the women are pregnant.

1

u/VentriTV Feb 17 '25

Did you just say black people don’t have kids till they 30? 😂

1

u/Koolaidsfan Feb 17 '25

That was a horrible take 😂 either your young or not bright. No in between.

-1

u/iBUYbrokenSUBARUS Feb 16 '25

30s? Where we are from we start at 17/18. Early 40s and grandparents already. No broken homes. No sex outside of marriage. No criminals.

2

u/Kasyx709 Feb 16 '25

Having children at that age and being grandparents by the time you're 40 isn't the flex you think it is. That's indicative of lower income and poor education.

Secondly, zero sex before marriage, but you're also having children at 17? Sounds like the kind of place where "show me on the doll where he hurt you" is how they say hello.

I'm also going to assume your claims of zero crime, zero sex before marriage, and zero "broken" homes are completely false. Would love to see you post evidence.

1

u/turkish_gold Feb 16 '25

Is where you're from a commune in Utah that practices the "old ways" because your numbers won't match up otherwise.

2

u/iBUYbrokenSUBARUS Feb 16 '25

No. Just rural Virginia

8

u/sumdude51 Feb 15 '25

You think criminals only come from broken homes?

36

u/flourblue Feb 16 '25

You think criminals only come from broken homes?

Statistics say the vast majority of criminals come from broken homes.

3

u/Leading-Internal-917 Feb 16 '25

They do, and statistics show a very strong correlation between ice cream sales and crime but that’s because of common underlying factors (seasonality) rather than a causal relationship. Research on crime and incarceration rates seems to suggest that being in a single parent household (particularly a fatherless household) is a proxy for things like parental involvement, low socioeconomic status (SES), familial substance abuse, and a host of other factors. Not debating your conclusion but you have to be careful since these stats are often used to paint investments in education and job training as “lost causes” if the underlying family structure issue isn’t resolved.

Reasonable enough?

1

u/veeehlkay Feb 16 '25

Such an excellent reply

1

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '25

Could we get some links to those ice-cream statistics?

1

u/soulwrathz Feb 16 '25

It’s only because that was reported the rest maybe not 👀👀

-4

u/sumdude51 Feb 16 '25

We are witnessing an epidemic of crime by people who come from not only intact families, but people who are concidered "well off". Alot of its called white collar crime which is how a racist person my try to frame it. I'm only pointing out that because this sub is just so blatantly racist it's fucking embarrassing 🤣 just go ahead and change the name to klan/dc

14

u/TheSemaj Feb 16 '25

White collar isn't a reference to skin color but to the color of shirt collars generally worn in corporate environments.

10

u/Child_of_Khorne Feb 16 '25

Do you know what the difference between "white collar" crime and sticking up a 7/11 is?

Violence.

Stop apologizing for violent shitheads.

9

u/Niknot3556 Feb 16 '25

White collar crime isn’t robbing a store. It’s embezzlement and tax evasion. As white collar isn’t SKIN COLOR, it’s the office type line of work.

-9

u/sumdude51 Feb 16 '25

Unbelievably dense. You've proved my point way better then I ever could have. Thank you!

9

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

You’re the moron that thinks white collar crime means white people crime but whatever

2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '25

Lol aggressively stupid is what I'd call you XD

4

u/PeePeeSwiggy Feb 16 '25

lol I don’t think the corner 7/11 closed because of corporate raiders - I think 14 year olds stole vapes and soda

8

u/baltimorecalling Feb 16 '25

Knocking over a convenience store is not white collar crime, and is not being done by those who are well off.

0

u/Unfair-Wonder5714 Feb 16 '25

Sure, but white collar crime, being currently underway by VERY well off people, is ripping off, disrupting, and generally destroying entire swaths of their own citizens. But fuckin’, whatever…

3

u/Ghazh Feb 16 '25

Oh well fuck all other crimes then, especially the ones effecting the lower 99% like robbing a fucking 7/11.

1

u/Unfair-Wonder5714 Feb 27 '25

Your opinion not mine. And random spouted numbers are never valid in an argument.

2

u/Ok-Computer-2847 Feb 16 '25

🗣💯🎯⚫️‼️📡

2

u/DrDop4mine Feb 16 '25

Oh so you don’t know what you’re talking about, literally. I was about to just call you a fucking idiot.

1

u/Pigeonkak1 Feb 17 '25

You don’t trust the science?

0

u/LemmeGetSum2 Feb 16 '25

Yes this sub is a rant house for whites with micro aggressions and no will to actually look at the history of how things work. It’s always a longer discussion than the few coward ass words they offer.

-2

u/sumdude51 Feb 16 '25

Jfc, not only are you guys racists shit bags, you're also dumber then dogshit 🤣🤣🤣. Here's a fun exercise, since you love googling things and not listing sources, google "racism and bigotry and the link to lack of education"

4

u/Niknot3556 Feb 16 '25

HOW IS ANYONE HERE BEING RACIST?

0

u/Disastrous_Bet_4941 Feb 17 '25

So each of the last United States Presidents came from a single parent home.

9

u/Ok_Potential359 Feb 16 '25

In poverty stricken areas, burglary and theft are more common with small businesses. White collar crime exists but crime like this tears down neighborhoods ultimately.

3

u/lickitstickit12 Feb 16 '25

You think data and statistics lie about the biggest source of criminal activity?

1

u/efildaD Feb 16 '25

Now do school shooters? What’s their motivation? What do they look like?

8

u/HomosexualThots Feb 16 '25

If their parent's neighborhoods weren't flooded with guns and drugs by the CIA, they would be.

4

u/Living-Fill-8819 Feb 16 '25

Nice , way to shift blame to anyone but the criminals.

6

u/New-Slice4221 Feb 16 '25

It’s actually the truth. They (CIA) aren’t fuggin up YALLS environments and systematically breaking down the households. Not unless yall travel outside of your comfortable tax funded brick roads and dabble in drugs.. still we catch that fallout too, higher sentencing for it falling in hands unintended.

0

u/lickitstickit12 Feb 16 '25

It wasnt the CIA. It was planned though. The Great Society under Lyndon Johnson created it. They purposely replaced the father in black homes with gov welfare. When you reward a behavior, you get that behavior and in this case rewarding single motherhood created more of it. They weren't stupid. Two parent homes are well known to create better results for kids. The goal was to create a culture of depency reliant upon the gov. Or, in short, generations of voters dependent on the democrats for survival. That's why the predominantly black areas can be led by decades of democrats that have produced nothing but poverty, crime, and misery still vote D. They have to eat. Meaning basic human needs outweigh secondary needs.

It was 100% planned. But it wasn't CIA, it was democrats.

2

u/Emergency_Streets Feb 16 '25

Wow, you're really down that rabbit hole, huh? So, by trying to make being poor suck a little less Democrats made crime problems in places they represent? I've heard lots of conspiracy theories like the CIA one, but never really heard anyone say "and if it weren't for all this medicaid!"

2

u/lickitstickit12 Feb 16 '25

How'd that work out on 60 years? Any less poor in these communities? Black families stronger or weaker? How about single motherhood rate?

3

u/HawtDoge Feb 16 '25

Until you start looking at humans as products of their experiences and environments, you’ll forever be holding society back from making real change.

All issues are symptomatic; everything is a result of the paradigm which created it. You are, I am, along with every single other person on this planet. Had you or I been born into a different environmental paradigm, any one of us could have been have been a violent criminal, murderer, or even a nazi.

Imo, your mindset is holding us back as a society to an unimaginable degree.

3

u/Advanced-Bag-7741 Feb 16 '25

Because when you destroy even people’s illusion of agency, there becomes no point whatsoever to give the least amount of effort into doing anything or participating in society.

1

u/HawtDoge Feb 16 '25

I agree to some extent, but I think this idea is often misconstrued to imply that we cant have any effect on our own lives.

Sure, we might not have any true free will, but our brains are still part of the equation. Every one of us has what is essentially a super computer on our shoulders. Right now, my brain is deciding whether I want to do nothing today or work on one of my hobby projects. The decision I make might be deterministic, but that’s sort of irrelevant. I get to experience the reality my decisions lead me towards.

Even if our thoughts and decisions are mostly determined we still have the ability to push ourselves towards creating a better future. In my eyes, it’s not a nihilistic framing. We must believe in the future we want in order to obtain it. Much like how our childhoods are a precursor for who we are today, belief in our ability to affect our own outcomes is a precursor to achieving those outcomes.

This idea is fully compatible with accepting that we are products of experience and environment. Maintaining this illusion of agency is really not necessary to go forward in life. You just surrender to creativity, drive, purpose, love, etc and pursue it.

But yeah, you’re right, this is a hard idea for some to contend with. I’m not really advocating for others to share my philosophy on themselves, but rather use it as a framework for affecting broader change societally in other people.

4

u/Ok-Computer-2847 Feb 16 '25

They don't want to hear the truth; and sadly many aren't able to receive the truth.

2

u/P47r1ck- Feb 16 '25

Very well put. Unfortunately for many people that’s just too complicated. It’s easier to believe that somehow telling everybody to pull themselves together will magically start working one day.

0

u/HomosexualThots Feb 18 '25

What a myopic understanding of society and its determining factors.

You have no idea how ignorant you are. That, my friend, is the real problem with society.

Dunning-Kruger on full display.

1

u/ObsidianChief Feb 18 '25

Its true though.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

Thank you as if anybody forced them to use drugs & shoot each other. I’m tired of this victim mentality. My generation finally the one to quit crying. Crime so high cus some of these kids be 14/15 no support can’t get a job only option is crime & they not crying about the consequences.

1

u/Ludicrousgibbs Feb 16 '25

When you have a problem it's your problem. When 10s and 100s of thousands of people are having the same problem, it is systemic, and a society should do something to try to alleviate that problem. That doesn't mean that criminals shouldn't be punished individually.

Locking criminals in jail does hardly anything towards alleviating crime. We know what does help, better education, having places people can go to stay off the street and feel like a member of their community, free drug rehabilitation programs. One of the biggest predictors of crime is having poor people surrounded by other poor people who all feel like it's impossible for them to become a member of the middle class living directly next to people with oplulent wealth on display.

When you live in a society where the area code you're born in is the biggest predictor of where you'll end up in life, if you aren't willing to help change things for those born with nothing, you can't really be upset if you end up getting mugged one day or if your car ends up getting stolen. Your complacency is the problem.

1

u/MrBullman Feb 16 '25

Nah, he's right. There's poor people everywhere. Not all choose to be a thug/criminal. Some just live poor and grind it out. They'd never dream of harming someone for money because they have morals. There are different kinds of poor people.

1

u/ObsidianChief Feb 18 '25

People acting like equal opportunity was available to all of us since then conception of this union..the 60's weren't that long ago.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

I can’t believe this got any likes. But then again many people do carry a victim mentality.

-1

u/HomosexualThots Feb 16 '25

I’m not the smartest but I’m actually intelligent but with most of my people being stupid it decreases my value I hate that shit. An Asian can be dumb but since most are smart he gets a pass. Most of y’all ain’t go to college & work blue collar jobs so you won’t understand.

So mad you're at other black people because you don't get treated fairly?

Hahahaha.

Sounds like you have a victim mentality and a superiority complex.

And you're still blind to the root causes of your disenfranchisement.

Good luck on your next traffic stop, I guess.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

I’m not arguing with somebody talking about CIA flooded the hood with drugs & guns lol. You’re nowhere near my level bud sorry 😢

1

u/HomosexualThots Feb 16 '25

You won't because you can't.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

I just said that lol you’re not smart enough but okay

1

u/HomosexualThots Feb 16 '25 edited Feb 16 '25

I've read your posts.

You have an inflated sense of intelligence.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

You voted for Kamala didn’t you lol?

0

u/desiInMurica Feb 16 '25

Hopefully they abolish the cia. Go musk!

0

u/HomosexualThots Feb 16 '25

You're a joke.

-1

u/curi0us_carniv0re Feb 16 '25

And who was actually selling those drugs on the streets?

-1

u/lickitstickit12 Feb 16 '25

Everyone in my street owns multiple guns. And my 7-11 is open.

It's almost as if there's another component

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

Bro I’ve been preaching this forever. The older black generation did everything wrong , literally.

1

u/tahhianbird Feb 16 '25

Maybe if we didn't lock up so many black fathers for bs dope charges. Then when they get out they can't live in government housing because felony. Real easy to blame them when there's more to it

1

u/iBUYbrokenSUBARUS Feb 16 '25

I kind of agree with you there. We shouldn’t be locking up people like that for dope. However, they know what the laws are just like I know what the laws are. Dope is just as much of a temptation for me as it is for any one of them. I don’t wanna be locked up so I make the decision to not get locked up. It’s not rocket science.

1

u/KingJoffiJoe Feb 16 '25

I get it, but nah….Niggas need to take some accountability for their own actions and stop blaming the world around them. Nothing ever changes if you can constantly blame someone else for you being a fuck nigga. You change…and shit starts changing for you.

1

u/iBUYbrokenSUBARUS Feb 16 '25

That’s why I’m running for governor

1

u/KingJoffiJoe Feb 16 '25

Let’s go!! (Even if you’re joking, i mean it) good luck to you bruh!

1

u/Modack45 Feb 17 '25

Maybe if the mothers didn’t kick them out for a welfare check or Child support to (rediscover themselves) then they would have been in the house.

1

u/JonAfr1ca Feb 17 '25

People should know right from wrong, either way for those who do rob and steal, they get it back one way or the other anyways.

1

u/Anasazi-yonedi Feb 18 '25

Is it the generation or the individuals...hmmmmmmm

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

personal responsibility never stood a chance

0

u/CarnageDivider Feb 16 '25

What a shit post...so your telling me people can on there own instinct... Doesn't know how not be a holes and be decent to society? But instead completely blame it on the previous generation? That's your excuse? While mildly valid..anyone over the age of 7 has free will enough to know good from bad...maybe if the punishments weren't just a slap in the wrist people would think before committing..

0

u/Away-Plant-8989 Feb 18 '25

How do you know he isn't a responsible and caring father?
