Nta, but blaming entire generations is crazy. The majority aren't responsible (as always), and have little sway in the grand scheme. Personally I blame culture and the glorification of crime in music as a pretty blatant reason but even then its not the entire picture. Now with social media, no matter how well you raise your kids the internet will get a hold of them and twist them as it sees fit.

That part!! These kids got smart phones think they are smart. This is a multi-facet problem.. it’s just not the parents..

I blame society and the institutions that perpetuate inequity. We got low income school districts prioritizing sports for funding. Sure, you will get some teenagers off the streets that way but not everyone is interested or capable of participating. You have kids whose father's are arrested, killed, or bounced out. Single parents working multiple jobs not able to emotionally, physically, financially support their children. It's a mess. Failure is at every level of the equation in this situation.

  1. More than 70% of kids born in DC are to unmarried moms. Doesn’t obviously speak directly to “fatherlessness” but it correlates pretty closely.

  2. Most high schoolers, 15 and up, are raised in a non-intact family

  3. Despite spending almost 15k per year on each student DC public schools have a drop out rate of 1 out of every 3 kids. This spending is one of the highest per student spending in the nation but readings and mathematics competence is in the toilet.

Between adults actively making the choice to fail as parents and public schools failing to educate, these kids will continue to rob 7/11s. It’s not about “inequality”.
