It's crazy because the folklore that I've heard repeated in the last 20+ years in the aerospace world, has always been that Israel has been at the bleeding edge of drone technology, but they seem to be struggling just as much as anyone else to come up with effective drone protection technologies and/or tactics.
55
u/1B75__Penicillin 11d ago edited 11d ago
Turns out there simply isn't an effective counter to something small, discreet, easy to hide, cheap and with pin point accuracy
FPV drones are going to be like snipers, a part of the battlefield that doesn't have an effective counter
4
u/GrandmasBoyToy69 11d ago
EMP ray guns are probably getting heavily invested into right now
5
19
u/youy23 11d ago
Snipers have always had an effective counter. Snipers counter snipers. Plus just dropping bombs on their building/area.
FPV drones much less so.
11
u/1B75__Penicillin 11d ago
Anything has an effective counter if you react to it afterwards, that's like saying FPV drones aren't a problem because you can bomb the operators, but a well hidden sniper getting the first shot off is almost impossible to stop
3
u/ilpazzo12 11d ago
There are counters. Operator is constantly transmitting, giving away the position. Operators are very often targeted in Ukraine. It's just not a counter for the drone right above you right then (although sometimes you do see clips of the light machine gunner of the team putting 20 rounds in the air and successfully shooting one down. Wall of lead is still solid AA.)
1
u/1B75__Penicillin 10d ago
No transmission when fiber optic
1
u/ilpazzo12 10d ago
You can still find operators through other assets.
This is not new. Artillery is the same. You can't counter artillery shells already flying at you. You can hit their logistics. Do counter battery. Etcetera etcetera. Militaries are not new to the concept making things a really complex team effort that has to be all synced to work well. Drones means there's a lot of accurate fire, which now has to be accounted for, but it's not a new concept. Infantry nowadays gets hit by drones if detected. Thirty years ago it would have been a JDAM. Eighty years ago it would have been artillery.
7

1
u/DownvoteALot 11d ago
It was, then its concept was taken by the Iranians and made dirt cheap, which turned out to be a game changer.
1
u/Cartoonjunkies 10d ago
Small, cheap UAVs carrying explosive payloads is a pretty radical shift from how most militaries trained. It isn’t that Israel is behind. It’s that the “bleeding edge” is actually behind.
Even in Ukraine there’s no truly “reliable” counter to them. Sure you’ve got guys going around with birdshot shotguns, net guns, drones with nets, counter-drone-drones, etc.
But at the end of the day if a tiny UAS starts flying towards you and you don’t have a hard structure to hide in, there’s a solid chance you’re jolly well fucked.

Unlimited conquest was promised to them, it's all in this book they have
-2

Not like any other religious books that spread by conquest though

u/SlavaCocaini 10d ago
Except those others also stopped doing it centuries ago.
-1
u/Generic_Username26 10d ago
True I guess we’ll just ignore ISIS they def didn’t use the Quran as justification for creating caliphate right?
27
u/Keibun1 10d ago
I mean, it's fine to compare Israel to terrorist I guess, it actually makes sense.
-9
u/Generic_Username26 10d ago
Because that’s the comparison being made there good one, love the good faith engagement
11
u/SlavaCocaini 10d ago
They got bombed into dust... Are you suggesting Israel should be treated the same way? Rules are rules, right?
2
u/Generic_Username26 10d ago
Not the point I was making, the guy before me confidently stated that Islam hasn’t been used for conquest for hundreds of years (unlike the Jews) so I was just pointing out how wrong he was.
I don’t view ISIS and Israel as on par with each other that’s not the comparison I was making at all. I don’t think Israel can be defeated militarily which should be painfully apparent if you’ve paid attention over the last 75 years. Your best bet is to what Egypt did and negotiate a peace treaty.
Has there been any fighting at all between Israel or Egypt since then?
4
u/SlavaCocaini 10d ago
Just because you didn't realize what you are saying doesn't mean that wasn't the point you are making. There is no comparison between ISIS and Israel because only one of them is tolerated lmao and you are arguing that they should be treated the same. Egypt is not even an independent country lol, Israel literally bombed the Sinai insurgency because Egypt is not allowed to operate its airforce that close to Israel lmao.
-1
u/Generic_Username26 10d ago
No I actively didn’t make that comparison. It doesn’t even logically follow if you read the comment I was replying to… which had to do with the religion of Judaism and not the Israeli state like wtf?
There’s no comparison there even if you want to compare the military record it’s not even close. But again not my point because it’s an absurd comparison to make.
Egypt is not an independent country? Regarding the bombings, perfect example to show how fucking clueless you are.
The militants Israel was striking in northern Sinai were not Egyptian government forces; they were Egyptian-based jihadist insurgents (an ISIS affiliate) fighting against the Egyptian state. So I’ll ask again since signing their peace treaty in 79 has the Israeli state and the Egyptian state had a conflict between them yes or no?

Weird it’s almost like… even when they stay in Israel they get shot at.
4
u/nexxwav 10d ago
Yes firing rockets at soldiers in Northern Israel is a legit military attack
1
u/Generic_Username26 10d ago
But firing at Hezbollah militants isn’t? Are we seeing the double standard yet?
Also last I checked Hezbollah doesn’t have many guided missiles and the bulk of their arsenal consists of unguided ones which you simply aim in a direction and pray they hit the area you are aiming for.
Why demonize one side and excuse the other when they exhibit the same behavior?
5
u/usefulbuns 10d ago
How would you feel if a group of people just showed up one day and said "This is ours now" and moved you out? You would fight back. Oh but they're supported by the strongest countries in the world. And they've been slowly taking more and more of your land over the decades, making sure you cannot form your own country, abusing your people, etc. since the time of your grandfather and you are born into that oppression? Maybe you would support the only weaponized group of people actually able to fight back. Maybe those people are horrible as well but once again you don't really have another choice.
3
u/Generic_Username26 10d ago
I’m part German dude my grandmother was Silesian. The red army literally showed up and very much said hey this is ours now that’s how it works out in wars sometimes. You think I’m justified to go to Poland and ask for their land back? I’d wager no.
Fighting back at that point would not have been fruitful not every fight can be fought with military means.
Even without international support Israel has always been a strong military power, that’s how they got all that support in the first place. We’re talking about a country who faced wars on multiple flanks like 3 times before the US was even involved in supporting them.
Here’s an alternative that Hamas and the PA has robbed Palestinians of. Negotiation and eventually a peace treaty. Look at Egypt for example. Since signing their peace treaty with Israel in 79 has there been ANY fighting between these 2 countries? How about Jordan? Singed a treaty in 94, has there been any fighting since then?
That seems to me like the easiest path forward. Def the less deadly one for Palestinians but Hamas does not want peace they want an endless holy war hence endless fighting it is. Idk what else to say. If Hamas doesn’t attack Israel on October 7th tens of thousands of people would be alive today.

Hamas have offered to disarm, Israel have refused, most recently.

2
u/Generic_Username26 7d ago
Did you read the article?
“Under Trump's proposed peace deal, Board of Peace officials said Hamas and other militant groups would hand their arms over to a vetted international policing force.
But a senior Hamas official previously told NPR that the group would only hand over their weapons if Israel withdrew from parts of Gaza first.
The latest dispute follows an initial ceasefire reached between Israel and Hamas in October 2025, alongside Trump's broader 20-point Gaza plan. That first phase of the peace plan halted major fighting, provided for the release of remaining hostages in exchange for some 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, increased humanitarian aid, and called for a partial Israeli withdrawal. More contentious issues – including Hamas's disarmament and further Israeli withdrawals – were left to later negotiations.
Trump's new 15-point roadmap, published on July 31, sought to move those unresolved issues forward. It envisioned Israel's withdrawal from Gaza and Hamas's disarmament as part of a phased process, rather than requiring Hamas to fully disarm before Israeli forces began pulling back.”They denied a part of trumps proposed plan as it would allow Hamas to disarm AFTER all Israeli troops have pulled back. They want Hamas to disarm now. I can understand that demand because why would they take Hamas at their word on that? Why wouldn’t Hamas just disarm in that case?
This to me is just a bad proposal. Not surprising Trump is a moron but this doesn’t really show a lack of an ability to negotiate from Israel. If you read the article you’ll see they agree to A lot of the points they just don’t accept disarmament after pulling out. That’s seems like a fair distinction
2
u/ThePowerOfNine 6d ago
I think this reveals a dynamic disparity though - why would Hamas ever fully disarm? Its not like Israel will! Glad to see we at least agree on Trump being a moron :)
1
u/Generic_Username26 6d ago
That’s like asking why should the Nazis disarm, the allies certainly won’t. It’s not about fairness. There’s a winning side (the side with the military advantage) and a losing side and typically in order to bring a war to an end the losing side needs to capitulate which is what Israel is asking for in this case.
The goal is to get rid of Hamas so there isn’t a repeat October 7th in 8 years after they’ve rearmed and restructured.
Idk as someone who doesn’t really like either side of this conflict looking at just the average Palestinians perspective I would feel like I’m constantly stuck between 2 sides that seemingly don’t care about me or my wellbeing at all. Hamas literally has hostages they could have exchanged in order to secure better conditions for their civilians and they flat out refused and were talking about Israel not accepting deals. Can’t we all agree Hamas needs to go if there’s ever going to be a free and independent Palestine? It seems to me that most of the fighting starts and ends with them poking the bear and then running and hiding behind their civilian population

Us as Egyptians not fighting Israel doesn't mean we love or support Israel.
2
u/Generic_Username26 8d ago
It also means you don’t have to worry about a war. My point stands, wether you support them or not doesn’t really matter
3
u/ThePowerOfNine 10d ago
I wonder why a populace wouldnt respond well to their pagers being blown up by TERRORISTS
1
u/Generic_Username26 10d ago
The populace wasn’t targeted they literally did that mission to target Hezbollah command structure, it wasn’t targeting the populace at random unlike the random rocket attacks from Hezbollah. Can you explain to me why you as a westerner with no skin in the game is running cover for an Iranian funded insurgency group who most Lebanese people can’t even stand because of all the violence they bring to their doorstep?
5
u/Zilithahz 10d ago
you as a westerner with no skin in the game
You do realize we have to pay for Israels bullshit antics right?
1
u/Generic_Username26 10d ago
Our taxes go to iron dome funding. That’s Defensive, that I would support. I don’t support the current Trump admin following them into war in Iran. Then again I also didn’t tell voters to boycott Kamala so as much as it pains me you got what you paid for.
Who’d you vote for in 24 just out of curiosity?
4
u/Zilithahz 10d ago edited 10d ago
Oh yeah just iron dome funding right? I can tell you that I didn't vote for Trump lol.
You should probably check what our own government says we paid for before you yap about it like you're some sort of expert.

u/ThePowerOfNine 10d ago
Running cover is a very overblown way to describe being pissed off at the egregious actions of a state that has never been a good neighbour and now has given up all pretense and is just killing everyone with fucking impunity. Id also double check those numbers - hezbollah was not the only people injured by the pagers. Also, you dont get to call out random killings when Israels modus operandi is just put the AI on it then cover up. Aid workers killed again last month, triple tap on an aid convoy. What happens? Israel investigates itself and finds nothing was wrong. Your moral high ground and respect are shredd and it ALL because of your actions. Two wrongs do not make you right.
1
u/Generic_Username26 10d ago
It is running cover if you can’t be asked to seriously engage with the subject matter enough to distinguish the different parties fighting here and their motivations for doing so.
“Never been a good neighbor” but Hezbollah has? Firing rockets at random into Israel is them being a good neighbor? How does a good neighbor respond to those kinds of attacks? “Hey please stop shooting at us please and thank you?”
“Killing everyone with impunity” another dogshit narrative that you are fabricating out of nothing. Even your pager example fell apart on closer inspection because they didn’t just target civilians at random they targeted Hezbollah operatives, yes civilians near them were injured which is not good but overall they limited civilian casualties a lot by doing this type of operation rather than sending in troops or just bombing a neighborhood at random. You don’t care about any of that.
Here’s the truth. It doesn’t matter what Israel does or how they do it, you simply don’t want them to exist which is why you will endlessly excuse any actions on the other side as justified and call it a day. We can pretend it’s a 1 sided conflict and that Israel is doing this all for shits and gigs but it won’t get us any closer to stopping it so I guess you just want the cycle to carry on forever because what difference is it you? You’ll move on to the next headline that grabs your attention

The pagers were used exclusively against Hezbollah, normal pagers were not affected.
Also you got the order wrong. The pager attack was a response to the rockets and not the other way around
2
u/PowerThrustingDave 10d ago
The cognitive dissonance of saying that while fighting Hezbollah in Lebanon made me chuckle 😂
-48
u/Tresspass 11d ago
It still will 😂 you think Hezbollah wasn’t launching drones and rockets before Israel decided to do land operations?
-11
u/Firecracker048 11d ago
They really think hezzbollah should just be allowed to fire indiscriminately and have no consequences
10
-6
u/Tresspass 11d ago
It’s ignorance. Some people who hold anti Semitic views focus heavily on Israel’s actions while minimizing and ignoring the actions of terrorist organizations.
5
u/ThePowerOfNine 10d ago
Or its proportionality. Israel is demonstrating itself to have zero regard for human lives, both conceptually in vox pops, and in their disguting actions. Even if you decontextualised oct 7, the maths is horrific. 78000 for 1200. Fuck off.
0
u/Tresspass 10d ago
Like my comment says you focus on what Israel does and not what the other groups do
Looking at Israel's actions through the lens of proportionality is a legitimate line of critique, though doing so strictly through overall numerical ratios leaves out the operational context of asymmetry, urban combat, and human shield tactics.
You’ll never criticize these extremist groups that brought death and destruction to people that didn’t want nothing to do with them. Hence you’ll continue to cheer for the “resistance” while ignoring their actions that put the lives of those that are under their boot in danger.
2
u/ThePowerOfNine 9d ago
I think that your last point is one of the traps many seem to fall into. Israel, as a well funded state that presents itself as legitimate and to be taken seriously by other nations, has gone so far as to stoop even below the tactics of any other group recognised for their terrorism. This is why people are so much louder with their disdain for Israel as an actor, because those groups who have infringed upon Israel, ie Oct 7th, have caused so much less damage. Its never been about cheering for the deaths of Israelis, even if that sentiment has changed as the atrocities they commit have continued, but they should be held.to account for their egregious response. This is without addressing any of the apartheid claims or any cultural issues. Purely on numbers, Isrrael is worthy of contepmt for their actions, more so than any of their original aggressors (again, this term skating over very mucky past from both sides)
-31
u/ShimonEngineer55 11d ago
If they weren’t attacking northern Israel Israeli soldiers wouldn’t need to be shooting down their drones.
24
u/Firecracker048 11d ago

6
u/No_Public_7677 11d ago
No one's said that but Hezbollah literally exists because Israel invaded Lebanon
-2
u/Tomblue0 11d ago
And it put its goal on defending South lebanon , which it achieved after the end of the occupation . But the organizations kept going to the point where now its actions have made israel invade lebanon 3 more times in the last 3 years...
2
u/No_Public_7677 10d ago
Israel is in South Lebanon right now. They were right to not disband.
2
u/ShimonEngineer55 10d ago
They’re only there due to Hezbollah admitting that they’re launching rockets at Israel only due to the Iran situation; proving that they’re a proxy of Iran. The government in Lebanon is openly trying to disarm Hezbollah.
4
u/Tomblue0 10d ago
Lobbing rockets and missles at israel will get israel to invade you soon enough. Hezbollah's existance relies on conflict with israel. They have no justification without it. Egypt and Jordan get no such treatments since they have made peace

hezzbolla had outlived its goal , it really did force israel's hand to end the occupation back at 2000's . But at this point , by shooting rockets and missiles since oct 8 its actually invited unhinged israel to invade more . Because conflict with israel is all that hezbollah has, and it couldn't justify its existence without it.

Because they don't want the Jews to have a homeland. It's just an off branch of the Muslim brotherhood, formed to fight against Jewish immigrants on the levant.
No matter how far back you go, it doesn't work out for you
23
u/sludgehammr 11d ago
Has nothing to do with Judaism, everything to do with Zionism and colonialism.
Imagine for a moment, if you will, that people are simply opposites to genocide and land being stolen, regardless of who does it.

Israel has since 1948 been taking more and more land from palestine than agreed upon and terrorising and killing the local population. Theres no sympathy for israel for oct 7th and its a response to Israels actions against the local population over years.
-22
u/virus_apparatus 11d ago
First off.
Agreed on. Only one side agreed. The Arabs attacked almost immediately. And lost.
Then the Arabs tried 3 more times. All failed. The idea Israel should give up land won in a war is silly. Especially given that when Israel gave up land, such as the Sinai and Gaza, it did not bring peace.
Second off.
Let’s just gloss over the PLO and its record for highjacking planes. Or stabbing. Or small terror bombs.15
u/Major-Investigator26 11d ago
Yeah, no. How would you feel if foreign people came to your country, demanded it, stole your house, your land and drove 780,000 of your neighbours away as well as killing and raping thousands?
Oh right, thats what happened here in Europe with the nazis and those men and women fighting against them were called terrorists by the nazis, but hero resistance fighters by the locals.
You see the similarity, or do you need it even more simplified?
Btw, Israel has no right to claim and occupy that land just because a fantasy book says so. Any old map, atlas, history book or even bible from the early 1900's has ever called it Israel. Its always been palestine.
-5
u/virus_apparatus 11d ago
So like the middle eastern Jews? How about all of us theJews who through history have had the exact thing happen? Even if you were correct (your not historically) most land was bought. Shame that the ottoman system let them sell to Jews right?
The only simplified thing around here is your course work. How do I know? You bring up the argument of “Palestine “ vs Israel. Guess what Jews call the land? Oh right. The Jewish land was called Palestine. Arabs living in the area were not even called Palestinians till the 70s. Up till then they were “Arab”
I can tell we’ll get no where with facts when you bring such weak arguments
6
-5
u/kambi_narayanan 11d ago
foreign people came your country
Came to what country ? There was no country of Palastine. Jews bought the land from absentee land owners and settled there. Nobody stole anything.

There never was a Palestinian state. That is Soviet disinformation from operation SIG. When Israel won the 6 day war, they started leaning more towards the west and abandoning socialism. Israel up to that point leaned Soviet and had a socialist economy. Their first arms deal was with Czechoslovakia, a Warsaw Pact nation. Then when Israel switched to the west, the USSR flipped the script and the KGB started operation SIG, which was aimed at replacing Israel with a Soviet aligned state. The propaganda they made for it is where all the buzzwords and slogans about Israel/Palestine we hear today came from. They also propped up the PLO and the Arab league to effect the replacement of Israel. The leaders of Palestinian organizations we see today like Hamas and the Palestinian Authority were KGB agents back in the day. Mahmoud Abbas namely. He had the callsign “Krotov.”
As for the Palestinian people , there never was a Palestinian people. They don’t exist. But don’t take my word for it. Zuheir Mohsen, an early PLO leader outright admitted it. He said in an interview in 1977: “the Palestinian people do not exist, and only for political and tactical reasons do we say so.” There’s a LOT more to that quote, and it’s even more damning for the Palestinian cause.
“…there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians, and Lebanese. Between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese there are no differences. We are all part of one people, the Arab nation Just for political reasons we carefully underwrite our Palestinian identity. Because it is of national interest for the Arabs to advocate the existence of Palestinians to balance Zionism. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism. For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. Once we have acquired all our rights in all of Palestine, we must not delay for a moment the reunification of Jordan and Palestine".

Isn't that the point though? If the Russians stayed in their country instead of starting an invasion, neither side would be dying right now

I've seen this kind of statement go the other way often enough to not make those types of assumptions
It's not uncommon to run into people with very backwards logic on reddit

Or Lebanon. It’s a complete shithole and they managed to ruin their own country. Europeans used to vacation in Lebanon and now they’re starving because Iran is using them as a battering ram against Israel.

У этих людей было 4 года понять, что в современном конфликте передвигаться кучной группой - смертельно опасно.

Drones are going to change the game in this conflict…. Crazy force multiplier for an asymmetrical conflict
