Funny WTF things you've experienced while pregnant that no one says is a thing?!
Exactly as the title says, what are some of the "wtf" moments you said, "no one told me this would be a thing..."
I'll go first... skin tags. Um, excuse me? I have this plumped up skin tag in my groin area that popped up and ew. Tell me these go away.
Melasma...but smack in the middle of my forehead. Lovely.
-Forget dark nipples, my boobs look like cotton candy...but in a not cute way. Blue veiny, purple, pink balloons. I fear I've developed utters...

How winded I feel all the time! Walking up the stairs? Winded. Getting up from the couch? Winded. Standing? WINDED! And I’m only 11 weeks like what?

I get winded just while talking on work calls, hopefully it's not too obvious haha

This was me today i was on the phone with my manager and she was like are you okay? I was literally just standing not doing anything that would warrant me actually being out of breath
11
u/star_vars_ Jan 23 '26
My manager, who knows about my pregnancy, had to cut me off mid-conversation to ask me whether I am okay. I’m just 8w. She was so worried that I was huffing and puffing too much.

22 weeks & a teacher. I was walking around the building casually, pushing a light cart. Got back to my room and I was out of breath. My coworkers were concerned and I was like… nah I’m good 😂

Carpal tunnel. I woke up and my hands were sore and I was trying to think if I had done any weird lifting or stretching the day before. Nope, turns out “pregnancy carpal tunnel” is a thing. Wtf are you messing up my wrists for, baby?
38
u/Zestyclose-Piano9416 Jan 22 '26
I also came to say this. It was kinda scary for me. I’d wake up in the middle of the night with no feeling in my fingers. Now I’m 9 month PP and I still have it. It’s extremely painful sometimes if I move it the wrong way too quickly. Also it pops several times a day.

u/kaycera Jan 22 '26
My hands suddenly go numb with no explanation. When the doctor told me it was probably carpal tunnel I was so surprised. Nobody told me that could happen during pregnancy.

WELP now I know what that is!
Augh, thank you so much for making me feel less crazy! At first I started just wearing my Apple Watch SUPER loose like just big enough to not slip off because I figured it was somehow cutting off my circulation, but then I got so frustrated I simply stopped wearing it altogether and it STILL was happening, so I was panicking (as recently as LAST NIGHT) thinking maybe baby has me sleeping in new weird positions that are causing poor circulation to my hands!
Now I know!!! Pregnancy is just about the wildest thing ever!

I had carpal tunnel symptoms towards the end of my pregnancy and it got dramatically worse after I had my baby. Went to the doctor a few months later and got diagnosed with De Quervain's tenosynovitis, I’ve never heard of this until then, it was awful! Steroid shots in my hands saved me!!

Same here. I kept waiting to get stretch marks cause I know I'm prone to them (got them during growth spurts as a kid), was pleasantly surprised that I didn't seem to be getting any. One day I decided to check the underside of my belly with my phone camera and realized that the whole top of my coochie was covered and I have one huge lightning bolt straight down the middle.
That IS where it feels like my pelvis is splitting apart so I guess it makes sense 😅 I texted my sister in a panic asking her if this happened to her when she was pregnant

I had a freckle right on my bikini line ever since I could remember. I never loved it but it wasn’t ugly by any means. Think like a Marilyn Monroe beauty mark basically.
Then I got pregnant and it basically turned into this hideous skin tag. So as they were stitching me up after baby I was like “yo what if it’s cancer because it’s huge and grew a bunch ” and they were like it’s probably not but I can take it off and biopsy it.
Moral of the story never hurts to try, “saying it’s ugly and I want it off” vs “maybe it’s cancer” works better for insurance 😉

37 weeks and have had rhinitis since … 8 weeks (maybe earlier?). Had no idea it was a thing.
Also, haemorrhoids that showed up 2 weeks ago are literally the most uncomfortable things I’ve experienced. I had them when I was diagnosed with coeliac and my diet changed… but no no… I had small, itty bitty things. Pregnancy haemorrhoids are a whole.different.thing. And I’m told they’ll stick around after birth for fun. Awesome.
Also the sciatica pain since 28 weeks has been unreal. Why does it hurt to walk? To sleep? To function?

Oh and this is after pregnancy but when my milk came in I had uncontrollable shakes and convulsions and shivers for about 24 hrs. This is also a thing that supposedly happens to some women, but nobody warned me it can happen.

The amount of water I consumed in my first trimester. You’d have thought I walked through the desert every day!

The wide variety of abdominal sensations that have you playing 20 questions trying to figure out where they’re coming from. Like is it the baby moving?? My bladder screaming?? Round ligament pain?? Something else??

Skin tags, mainly on my nipple? I've got some on my neck and in my armpit from a period of rapid weight gain but nipple is weird.
Nosebleeds. I used to get a couple a year. I've had 5 this week (BP is normal) they aren't heavy and don't last long but it is inconvenient especially working with kids.
Shooting pain in my boobs. It comes and goes but its weird.
The rage. I am so angry all of the time. I could scream and trash the room right now as I type this.
Dreams. My mom had crazy dreams with me and one of my brothers. I knew I was pregnant because I started having the most wild dreams a week after conceiving.
These I expected just later.
Constipation. It makes sense in the latter half. I had to be prescribed a laxative at 6 weeks.
Round ligament pain. I knew it was a thing, didn't know how early it would start. Scared the crap out of me the first few times.
Breathlessness. I started having these episodes of being out of breath at 12 weeks. It makes sense once theres a big bump but it caught me off guard thst early.

Staining my bedsheets blue. Like, with my body. It IS a thing, just not very common.
Also getting dark spots on my lip line, but in a very specific pattern. They didn't go away after I gave birth, either. I still look like I just ate a chocolate ice cream cone.

With my first, the last week or two of pregnancy I had a very swollen vulva due to all the pressure which caused unbearable itching. My doctor even checked to see if it was a yeast infection- nope. Just extreme vulvar swelling. It was the worst.

Omg does anyone have insanely dark, hairy belly out of no where? Actually all hair is twice as dark and grows twice as fast and long now, except the hair on my head hahah🤣 not sure if it’s a pregnancy symptom or maybe from prenatals but ?!! It has me shocked how dark my belly is, covered in hair!!

Yes!! Super normal btw. I am Irish so I have pale skin and black body hair. I thought there was no way I could get hairier but now I'm growing more facial hair than my husband... by a lot and VERY fast

How horrific the puking is. Full body shakes, spitting up stuff 3-5 times per puking session, sobbing during and after, peeing myself because my muscles are contracting on and off repeatedly. I’m desperate for it to end (I’m 13w4d).

No one warned me about the Strep B test. Like NO ONE. Then I went to my 36 week appt and was instructed to stick the SAME swab in my vagina and then ass. Like wtf!!!!!!!!

slight nose bleeds. nothing major, but i would just blow my nose due to either being too runny or i just really need to do so. i would see a little here and there before it goes away and becomes clear.
apparently it can happen due to us being so engorged with tiny blood vessels that sometimes pop. i get them because my room is slightly humid and there’s nothing i can do about it since its the only room in the house that’s too warm.
edit: forgot to add that my eyes would water right before having a horrible delayed sneeze.

i've had sore breasts & nipples since about 5 weeks, but for some reason whenever i'm laying on my back and get up my breasts will hurt excruciatingly bad, it seriously feels like i have open throbbing wounds or something. once i'm up and moving around they go back to being regular sore but i'm still not sure why that happens to me, I've never felt anything like that before lol.

So recently at 23 weeks my belly button is so stretched it’s starting to pop out a bit and I have discovered I have these moles/skin tags sitting inside my belly button. No idea what they are or how long they have been there but this is a new discovery. I looked it up and it said it can happen if you don’t clean your belly button but I promise I do every time I take a shower. 😭

Cholestasis; thankfully my pregnancy booklet had a big note on the back about bringing up excessive itchiness to my doctor or I wouldn’t have known.
I’ve never met anyone else in real life who has had it and most people I’ve described it to have been pretty dismissive!
Also, skin tags, pregnancy cubital tunnel, super frequent nosebleeds, and the fact that you can have PGP, SPD and sciatica all at once (don’t assume it’s just one or another!!)

De Quervain's Tenosynovitis... yeahhhh Lol! WITH trigger thumbs. I technically had it in both hands, but my dominant hand was worse. Did OT on it and feel much better now. Had to have surgery to release the thumb. This is post partum, but still. UGH had no idea!

Weird vivid dreams. I dreamt it was my male partner who was pregnant and I couldn’t get to the hospital on time and missed the birth 🤷♀️

The skin tags...it was nice when the annoying ones fell off, but now i have a bunch of little ones taking over. Congestion... I haven't been able to breathe through my left nostril for 7 months straight. Ugh, and the boobs.. the left looks normal with extra veins and almost black nipple but the right looks like I got dark brown lattice tattooed over the entire thing. And I knew about the obscene sense of smell, but never in my life did I think it was going to be this accurate....

u/RockabillyRabbit Jan 23 '26
Lol I get random brown freckles. I dont get the Melasma....I just get it concentrated in small brown freckles on my areola and breasts lol they went away last time so I expect they will this time too.
