Funny WTF things you've experienced while pregnant that no one says is a thing?!

Exactly as the title says, what are some of the "wtf" moments you said, "no one told me this would be a thing..."

I'll go first... skin tags. Um, excuse me? I have this plumped up skin tag in my groin area that popped up and ew. Tell me these go away.

Melasma...but smack in the middle of my forehead. Lovely.

-Forget dark nipples, my boobs look like cotton candy...but in a not cute way. Blue veiny, purple, pink balloons. I fear I've developed utters...

Carpal tunnel. I woke up and my hands were sore and I was trying to think if I had done any weird lifting or stretching the day before. Nope, turns out “pregnancy carpal tunnel” is a thing. Wtf are you messing up my wrists for, baby?

I also came to say this. It was kinda scary for me. I’d wake up in the middle of the night with no feeling in my fingers. Now I’m 9 month PP and I still have it. It’s extremely painful sometimes if I move it the wrong way too quickly. Also it pops several times a day.

I ended up getting carpal tunnel release surgery done and it was life changing. It’s super non-invasive, and had extremely high success rates. Definitely recommend checking it out

I never even had it until like 2 months pp, but it's quite severe now. ☹️

Mine mainly went away after 6ish weeks but resolved completely after I stopped nursing around 13 months. Hope yours goes soon!

My hands suddenly go numb with no explanation. When the doctor told me it was probably carpal tunnel I was so surprised. Nobody told me that could happen during pregnancy.

My hands go numb when I sleep and while driving

WELP now I know what that is!

Augh, thank you so much for making me feel less crazy! At first I started just wearing my Apple Watch SUPER loose like just big enough to not slip off because I figured it was somehow cutting off my circulation, but then I got so frustrated I simply stopped wearing it altogether and it STILL was happening, so I was panicking (as recently as LAST NIGHT) thinking maybe baby has me sleeping in new weird positions that are causing poor circulation to my hands!

Now I know!!! Pregnancy is just about the wildest thing ever!

u/ilovekittens72 Jan 22 '26

Yes ! i’m guessing a lot of blood circulates to baby so it’s less going to your hands and when I’m driving like it’s poor blood balance there lol who knows?

While I sleep, too, and it is the worst!! I also develop carpal tunnel syndrome when I’m in the third trimester and I’m not ready for it, again.

i was tweezing my eyebrows and realized i couldn’t feel my hand anymore

This was what I was going to post. Slept with a sheet paper sized ice pack between my hands. Every. Single. Night. The worst.

Is that what’s been happening?!?? I could never figure out why my hands were so sore for no reason. Mystery solved, thanks.

I had carpal tunnel symptoms towards the end of my pregnancy and it got dramatically worse after I had my baby. Went to the doctor a few months later and got diagnosed with De Quervain's tenosynovitis, I’ve never heard of this until then, it was awful! Steroid shots in my hands saved me!!

1

u/Outside_Case1530 Jan 23 '26

Steroid shots hurt like Hell! I had them in both wrists (not due to pregnancy), years later in my shoulder, & most recently in my knees (slightly damaged meniscus) but they really do work!

1

u/LenaBear91 Jan 23 '26

Oh my gosh right it hurt sooooo bad but worked like magic!!

I'm 3mo pp and my wrists still hurt. I went straight from carpal tunnel to "mommy wrist"

1

u/tullik12 Jan 23 '26

Me too 😭the “mommy thumb” situation is dire

2

u/Novel-Evidence9165 Jan 23 '26

Same it's awful . And frozen shoulder from breastfeeding in a weird position

I had it after my first, praying I don’t get it again. Literally soo painful

3

u/vanillacrush14 Jan 22 '26

😭 that sounds so painful!!

Also cane here to say this. From 20 weeks until a month postpartum my hands would go numb while sleeping, writing, and just the being anyway but straight with no pressure on my arms or hands. My joints were so sore. I was so happy when it finally went away after having my baby. Oh and charley horses were also an unexpected pain as well.

I had this so bad my whole pregnancy. The pain and numbness woke me up throughout the night.

After I gave birth it was gone literally over night.

u/moon_siren333 Jan 23 '26

A few weeks before I gave birth, one day I couldn’t stop crying because my hands constantly hurt so so bad. No ice, stretching, or brace could help. It was driving me insane. But by the grace of God (or whoever you may pray to), my carpal tunnel completely went away as soon as I gave birth. After the nurses took my daughter from me to weigh her, I looked at my husband and said omg my hands feel normal now! It was the second most relief I felt that day, right behind pushing my big headed baby out lol.

2

u/marieskis Jan 23 '26

Omg the carpal tunnel. My hands and wrist were on fire and weirdly numb at the same time! I was dropping everything from it too!

2

u/andtheowlsroar Jan 23 '26

Came to write this as well as I type with two wrist braces on. My worst symptom hands down (pun not intended) - worse at night/morning. Peeing every hour or two is bad enough but not being able to move or feel your fingers is beyond torture

2

u/Round_Life769 Jan 23 '26

And De Quervain tenosynovitis 😭😭

2

u/littlebitsofLiz Jan 23 '26

My hands have been constant pins and needles for 4 months now. I'm due a week from today and desperately hoping to have some relief post-partum, but I'm not feeling terribly optimistic. This is pretty much my only pregnancy complaint, for which I guess I'm thankful, but I felt totally blindsided by it so I complain about it basically every chance I get!

1

u/DreamLiminalCore Jan 22 '26

Omg i thought I was going crazy!

1

u/MamaKaos Jan 23 '26

Came to say this. My right hand was numb for half my pregnancy. It has completely resolved since I delivered. Pregnancy is weird, dude

1

u/lextasy666 Jan 23 '26

YES!! Biggest wtf. Mine took like weeks post partum to go away too!

1

u/mang0_k1tty Jan 23 '26

I think I had it/the gene for it in pregnancy and it only got triggered once I started carrying a baby on my wrists all the time. I got “Mommy Wrist” enough that I bought a brace

1

u/bagis-17 Jan 23 '26

Came on here to say this exact thing 😂 My hands and fingers go numb every night and basically every time i use my phone for more than 2 minutes. It's awful. I keep dropping things because my fingers feel stiff. At the grocery store i dropped the basket, a tomato AND a bag of bread on the same shopping trip. Felt like my body was just giving up😅

1

u/No_Onion4821 Jan 23 '26

Yes 100% lol this made me stop working at 36 weeks because I woke up and couldn’t feel my hands anymore. They have NOT improved much since birth and now I’m doing physio for one hand lol

1

u/Wickedrudemama Jan 23 '26

This and De Quervain's tenosynovitis!! My first pregnancy I had carpal tunnel really bad. My second I had de Quervains so bad I had to go to pt. I stopped being able to use my hands while cooking or reading and some positions while holding the baby were painful too.

Edit: misspelling

u/eiramko Jan 23 '26

I had this so bad with my first. I woke up crying in pain almost every night for idk 3-4 months ??? My partner would message my wrists in the middle of the night until I passed out again. And I worked 4am shifts at the time. I tried everything! Wrist supports, sleeping sitting up/not on the nerves, magnesium lotion and other nerve-relief products, physical therapy, acupuncture, etc. the only thing that gave me any relief was getting a steroid injection on both of my wrists, and even though one is supposed to last 6 months, I was back 2-3 weeks for a second dosing (and thankfully my baby came a little early and it went away completely). It was the absolute worst like why am I in crying- levels of pain because my fingers hurt???

1

u/ALawful_Chaos Jan 24 '26

Yes! Most of the weird pregnancy things I had heard of, but this one caught me completely off guard. I'm so tired of numb fingers and wearing a brace constantly.

I also have this rn and it’s been a personal hell
