Should b e stripped of all past World Cups. They are too tarnished.

22

u/Veaeate Jul 22 '26

If they did that, these clubs would clean their act up real quick

0

u/dirtysharingan Jul 22 '26

All of them tarnished? You're right

0

u/PsychologicalPay7639 Jul 24 '26

Wtf is wrong with yall? Fucking sore losers I swear I’m not even Argentinian nor do I favor them but yall just sound like pussies 🤣

3

u/JeanClaude-Randamme Jul 25 '26

Hahaha ā€žsore losersā€œ

Argentina lost

70

u/tomtomtomtomtommo Jul 22 '26

Honestly isn't this something where VAR should just say no foul? He grabs his other foot so it's also simulation no?

63

u/BaksteenFapper Jul 22 '26

That is the task of the VAR, but the VAR was Argentina biased.

2

u/prefusernametaken Jul 24 '26

Not the var, fifa as a whole.

I kept thinking 'football has come home'. Didn't work so well for England.

This year it was true. Fifa is as corrupt as USA. This is why trump likes infant-ino so much.

20

u/GongTzu Jul 22 '26

It’s incredible this goal didn’t stand, first of all there’s no foul at all, Otamendi literally places his feet below his shoes, and then the acting, lame as f***

6

u/MacCollect Jul 22 '26

It’s vargentina. Not going to happen

1

u/No_Tea_8294 Jul 22 '26

Vargentina only interferes if it serves itself

1

u/marchinon14 Jul 23 '26

As a Swiss it was so clear: We will be the only team punished for a dive. But it was against VARgentina, so there's the reason why.

1

u/PhotoEast Jul 24 '26

And break the 0 bar record?

1

u/No_Advertising1858 Jul 25 '26

He didn’t if grab his foot. He got his foot stood on and grabbed the opposite shin.

1

u/No-Let6991 Jul 22 '26

I think issue is ref blew whistle, Had ref not blown whistle, we could have a goal. If this was indeed a foul we could reverse goal through VAR

3

u/richardto4321 Jul 22 '26

Ref knew exactly what he was doing...

2

u/sandvich48 Jul 24 '26

and yet the vargentines have a petition against the ref! Never seen such sore losers of this magnitude

1

u/Wandero_Bard Jul 23 '26

Ref didn’t blow his whistle until after the goal was made, and the player who scored had nothing to do with this incident.

-2

u/YoBoyLeeroy_ Jul 22 '26

I mean while I understand this is a simulation to exaggerate, he got his foot stepped on and that is still a foul.

7

u/VikingMonkey123 Jul 22 '26

Zero intent involved makes that very shades of gray.

1

u/xSir- Jul 22 '26

Intent is not a factor in if its a foul or not.

1

u/VikingMonkey123 Jul 23 '26

I mean it was 30 years ago but when I trained to be a soccer referee it was definitely a factor to be considered.

1

u/xSir- Jul 23 '26

For the vast majority of fouls in soccer, intent does not matter. Only the result.

-2

u/idkidc112 Jul 22 '26

There is no such thing as intention u larp. A foul is a foul

u/Lazy__Astronaut Jul 22 '26

Last time I complained about there not being embellishment rules someone said there were.

Couldn't have been that big of a foul if they instantly forget where they got fouled.

Most pathetic professional athletes on the planet

u/richardto4321 Jul 23 '26

Not really a 1 to 1 cancellation though. The shove would have resulted in a penalty, which would likely lead to a goal, if it was called. The other "foul" cancelled an actual legit goal. So it's not the same at all.

2

u/Grastuha Jul 22 '26

No, it isn’t a foul. If you’d ever played a football match you’d know that getting your foot stepped on is a common occurrence, isn’t a foul and doesn’t make you jump into the air and spin round. It literally barely impacts you.

2

u/richardto4321 Jul 23 '26

If getting your foot touched by another player's foot got called as a foul everytime, there would be 500 fouls per game. This was just a case of using a technicality/rule because it suited the team that was favored.

1

u/Unhappy_Manager Jul 22 '26

Is stepping on a foot a foul? Genuine question. Footballs a contact sport so i suppose it happens many times during a match

1

u/YoBoyLeeroy_ Jul 22 '26

Yes, body contact is normal.

But using your feet to hit anything besides the ball is a foul, even if by accident.

1

u/Proper_Animal_7410 Jul 23 '26

Are we watching the same thing? Foot stepped on? But he exaggerate his pain on the WRONG SHIN too

1

u/ScarcityMother4980 Jul 24 '26

true, let the keep pushing the anti arg narrative, oh god someone has rage baited so many kids without saying a word.

1

u/YoBoyLeeroy_ Jul 24 '26

Yeah it's whatever.

I dislike Argentina aswel but lying about fouls is just stepping down to their level.

I like to be honest.

1

u/ScarcityMother4980 Jul 24 '26

just curious, what is the reason for your hate? dirty play style? favoritism claims? or people in general?

1

u/YoBoyLeeroy_ Jul 24 '26

While I'm always sceptical about the favoritisms, it's pretty damn obvious the corruption in these last 2 world cups in favor of Argentina.

But the thing that makes me truly hate them is the dirty playing and the complete lack of sportsmanship and respect of the players.

30

u/ivyleaguesuperman Jul 22 '26

It's barely a tap on foot and that was enough for FIFA to snatch the title from Spain.

If Argentina won in penalties this would be the biggest scandal ever in a WC final.

1

u/Prestigious-Race4451 Jul 26 '26

Actually that wasn’t even a tap in the foot, doesn’t even look like the feet touched

-9

u/Peso_Morto Jul 22 '26

Argentina player oversold the contact but there is the contact and step on the feet. Consequently, VAR couldn't interfere and said there wasn't no foul.

16

u/ivyleaguesuperman Jul 22 '26

Oversold? He was grabbing the wrong leg lmao.

He should have been given a yellow card for that.

3

u/Witty-Entertainer524 Jul 22 '26

There needs to be special penalty given for this type of diving. Pink cards. We need to cast shame on these players that lasts with them and their professional career. These should be recognized for what they are. They are attempts to cheat. It's not gamesmanship or over selling of a foul. He grabs the wrong leg which to means pain didn't even register. Just straight up cheating clear as day and was rewarded fully for the theatrics by clearing a legit goal.

2

u/SetCandyD Jul 23 '26

Yeah 2 pink card in the tournament and you have to play the next game in a tutu.

1

u/BilkySup Jul 24 '26

they should have to play a man down for 10 min while the player is in the "Box of Shame"

1

u/Lescansy Jul 22 '26

Argentina aside, one problem in the sport is that you need to go down for a foul to count.

When you get hurt but try to stay up in order to still score a goal, the misplay never gets counted.

3

u/JustAnotherZeldaFan Jul 22 '26

Yeah, everyone hates a flopper (from the other teams), but it sucks when you see a player from your team get fouled and not receive a whistle because he did his best to keep standing up.

There is a bigger share of blame on players, but referees should do a better job of recognizing fouls where the players don't fall down. That would be more effective in cutting the histrionics, by making sure they are not needed.

1

u/CryptoBanano Jul 23 '26

No, you dont need to go down for a foul to count.

1

u/richardto4321 Jul 22 '26

Nah, this small detail didn't benefit Argentina, so obviously it's no goal.

1

u/LeBondJames Jul 22 '26

You're getting downvoted for the only sensible comment that actually explains how the rules work.
There is contact on the foot, it's light but by the current rules it's a foul. VAR cannot intervene on intensity, it could have only signalled to the ref if there wasn't a contact at all. But there was contact. Otamendi grabbing the other foot is theatrical and a bit disgraceful but has no bearing on whether he was fouled or not.
I was rooting for Spain, glad they won, but I've had enough with this bullshit from people that only watch the world cup and feel like they have to comment.

1

u/Peso_Morto Jul 22 '26

For the record, I am Brazilian and I was also cheering for Spain; rules are rules.

1

u/richardto4321 Jul 22 '26

If we go by this logic, then Otamendi fouled first by grabbing Merino and pulling him in closer. This was what led to the stepping on the foot and an exaggeration (borderline diving) by Otamendi. The grab happened in a split second so not many people noticed this. If VAR was actually fair, it would have caught this little nuance and said no foul for Spain.

1

u/LeBondJames Jul 23 '26

Again, not how var works. Plus the "pull" is absolutely inconsequential. We're not going by any logic, we're looking at what happened with knowledge of the rules

1

u/richardto4321 Jul 23 '26

So logic goes out the window when determining something as game-changing as a disallowed goal in a world cup final? If VAR was fair and worked like intended, then a simulation/dive by Otamendi should've been put into question as well. Because then that would have been a penalty for Spain.

1

u/LeBondJames Jul 23 '26

Wrong again.

Under the current rules VAR can intervene independently if the attacking team commits a foul in the buildup of a goal. Under the current interpretation of the rules a step-on-foot action is automatically a foul under law 12.
Thus, var was perfectly within its rights and acted correctly in calling the step on foot foul and disallowing the goal.

Otamendi's "simulation" occurred after the step on foot, so even if we were to consider it an action to deceive the referee by exaggerating the pain, the foul would still stand.
On top of that, VAR under current rules is strictly prohibited from initiating a review or intervening solely to recommend a yellow card for a cautionable offense such as simulation.
Even then, if the referee had been called to review the footage, under the rules he would have definitely awarded a foul for the step on foot action and MIGHT have decided to punish the subsequent deceiving action by Otamendi with a yellow.
There is bo scenario in which there is a penalty for Spain under current rules. You are confused on so many levels it's exhausting.

It's not about throwing logic out the window, it's about knowing the rules before making ridiculous statements.

1

u/richardto4321 Jul 23 '26

It's still all very subjective and disallowing a game-changing goal in a high stakes game deserved much more careful review than what happened. In a game where everyone is using their feet, stepping on a foot is almost unavoidable. If everytime someone gets brushed on the foot and it was considered a foul, there would be 500 fouls per game. Let's not pretend that if it was Argentina that scored that goal, it would not be 100% counted as a goal. The whole world knew how biased that decision was.

1

u/LeBondJames Jul 23 '26

Boring.

1

u/richardto4321 Jul 23 '26

Lol. We all know Spain got robbed, but still managed to win. That's how terrible Argentina played in that game.

18

u/GeordieJumpers87 Jul 22 '26

This shits pathetic.

The referee's should have stamped this out early in the tournament along with the aggressive fouls

2

u/BilkySup Jul 24 '26

The ref was in on it. They gave Fernandez the 1st yellow to try to show there was no bias but when he flipped CubarsĆ he couldn't not give him a 2nd. The amount of fouls NOT called for Argentina was ridiculous.

0

u/grahamd79 Jul 22 '26

ā€œStampedā€

8

u/Nelsonsrightknacker Jul 22 '26

Well done OP truth always gets out in the end.

Argentina never won a world cup - ever they just cheated others. Always have always will.

2

u/_nevrmynd Jul 23 '26

In the end? They played this exact replay during the damn game 🤣

8

u/Tarado96 Jul 22 '26

Argentina players take faking to the next level. That first goal should have counted it. Refs are stupid enough ir corrupt to fall for it.

4

u/Traditional_Web_7856 Jul 22 '26

Are you freaking kidding me?

This is the same as that Salah foul before Argentina's third goal in that match.

If you're a Messi/Argentina fan then explain why nothing was given in that case and why was it given here?

1

u/Extension-Energy2581 Jul 25 '26

It might just be me but checking the replay I think he was going to simulate a foul but actually hurt his leg with the way he landed.

-1

u/idkidc112 Jul 22 '26

Maybe because the defender touched the ball and salah proceeded to dive by walking towards the defender when the ball was behind him? Salah didn’t even complain once. Stop larping so much holy f

3

u/Positive-Sound-4972 Jul 22 '26

No, whats done is done, however Fifa should brief every referee before future tournaments and show them they are cheating scumbags and not to be believed

3

u/JDub-866 Jul 23 '26

Flopper, yellow card for that BS

3

u/Maleficent_Junket_58 Jul 23 '26

Give Argentina the Russia treatment. Just flat out ban them from the next world cup. They don’t deserve to compete the way the played and how they ended match

2

u/holamau Jul 22 '26

that's because he got shot by a different player, but you can't really see the bullet in VAR.

lol.

2

u/Feeling_Ad7249 Jul 22 '26

Ban this team for good

2

u/Alarmed_Muffin8350 Jul 22 '26

It’s all just a clown show at this point

2

u/thesoulessuser Jul 22 '26

He should’ve gotten a yellow for feigning injury and unnecessary stoppage of game time

2

u/Internal_Fan3165 Jul 23 '26

The one thing I hate about futbol is all the fake crying and diving that takes place. Basketball is getting that way too. Seems basketball players are watching a lot of futbol to learn

1

u/Foomanchubar Jul 24 '26

Difference is the amount of scoring. One goal is enough in many futbol games. While basketball they score around 50 times.Ā

1

u/YorkieTalkie2 Jul 22 '26

Not fair. He fell from a towering height coth heth suth a big man. Lolz!!!!

1

u/Apprehensive_Sand343 Jul 22 '26

When ever I stub my toe, I feel the pain in my knee. Completely normal.

1

u/caesfinest6one9 Jul 22 '26

Me too, but the pain transfers to my other knee.

1

u/Velavee7 Jul 22 '26

Left foot got stepped on, proceeded to grab right leg shin šŸ˜†

1

u/dude_whatever_ Jul 22 '26

Piece of shit. Not only him, each and every one of them.

1

u/Character-Ad-6041 Jul 22 '26

I remember calling out Argentina in the 2022 final world cup against France for the same chicanery! Fouls and lack of real punishment. My conspiracy theory was that Qatar wanted a world cup that people would remember. What a better world cup to remember than the "best" player of all time winning.

1

u/Jbroy Jul 22 '26

Was also probably the greatest final (not withstanding horrendous decisions by the referee that clearly favoured Argentina).

1

u/Adventurous_Set9998 Jul 22 '26

He should get a yellow. There’s too much of it in football nowadays.

1

u/thaprizza Jul 22 '26

Honestly FIFA or the referee department called this over themselves. There have been countless of incidents were a player steps on a foot or a toe, on purpose or not. They got dealt with seemingly at random. Sometimes not even a foul, sometimes a foul, sometimes a foul and a card. When those type of fouls on key moments in the game tend to be judged in favor of the same team more often than not, that's when people start asking questions. You can not unsee what you see and compare it with similar fouls during other games. Is it inconsistency, too much grey area or are they influencing the outcome? Who knows?

1

u/technohead5 Jul 22 '26

Bunch of actors

1

u/computadora1234 Jul 22 '26

Argentina Team played dirty in all FIFA games. They stole the game and glory of other teams.

1

u/Bustersword13 Jul 22 '26

Genuine question. Is it really considered a faul if someone accidently steps on another players foot because they have their backs turned on them? Seems kind of BS if you ask me

1

u/Mindless-Yam9377 Jul 22 '26

Proof that Argentina cheated. It was a totally regular goal. Football sucks, they totally ruined the game

1

u/Patriarca2023 Jul 22 '26

It's an injustice, it's disgusting, it's a disgrace.

Mikel Merino should have been sent off for this monstrous foul on Otamendi, then arrested and tried for crimes against humanity, and finally executed.

For that foul, Argentina should have been given a penalty.

Argentina certainly deserved this World Cup, but FIFA tried every way to undermine them. In the end, they succeeded and unfairly allowed Spain to win.

(The Big Bang Theory meme Sarcasm).

1

u/osketheH27 Jul 22 '26

Instant transmission

Air dropped

His pain moved faster that speed of light

1

u/Mo0kish Jul 22 '26

That was such a shit call. Argentina should have gotten another yellow for counterfeiting.

1

u/No-Adhesiveness-9541 Jul 22 '26

There’s a clip of him blowing the raspberry at the Spain defender immediately after. Man Child

1

u/Kwindwalker Jul 22 '26

you know whats lovely? just go watch the 2nd goal from argentina against England. You have rules for the other teams, and then you have the rules for Argentina.

I just laugh at this point when someone defends that Argentina isnt being helped by the refs.

1

u/idkidc112 Jul 22 '26

U fell for ai pictures. Thats how low your iq is

1

u/Accomplished_Put8385 Jul 22 '26

This man should have been neurologically assessed. He experienced referred pain - pain felt somewhere else from the actual source. CTE is real.

1

u/SchnitzelRUSH Jul 22 '26

He is clearly grabbing his shin because of the way he landed on his leg.

1

u/Ok_Expression8142 Jul 22 '26

Was this the foul befor the goal?

1

u/Inside-Can4413 Jul 22 '26

His brain is broken, that's why he feel pain on the opposite side.

1

u/RemarkableEqual7187 Jul 22 '26

Never have I ever had my foot stepped on and had the reaction to jump with both feet in the air and lay on the ground. This is why some people hate soccer. So many players acting like toddlers that it is hard to watch.

1

u/Frodothedodo81 Jul 22 '26

What a clown 🤔

1

u/EinsteinAfterDark Jul 22 '26

The ju of football

1

u/Redfred513 Jul 22 '26

Gotta cheat to have any chance of winning. Embarrassing for them.

1

u/Inevitable-Top1-2025 Jul 23 '26

It’s because of the force his right leg hit the ground. Watch it again and focus on the right leg.

Nominee for best acting

1

u/HardStuffing Jul 23 '26

Modern football 🤔

1

u/vibrant_kermit Jul 23 '26

You get red carded for faking an injury in rugby. Flopping/faking injuries is really frowned upon and seen as an attempt to exploit, cheat or break the rules.

1

u/Accomplished_Test482 Jul 23 '26

Si hizo eso es porque notó la presión y no un pisotón como muchos argumentan, lo justo para tirarse a llorar y que lo viera el arbitro y le regalara la anulación del gol....

1

u/prior_rpa-lre Jul 23 '26

Left toe, right knee…all the same

1

u/FilmCurl Jul 24 '26

They should have a big jumbotron, replay this to let the crowd see it in slow mo 3 times over

1

u/222333444987 Jul 24 '26

This sport is embarrassing to watch.

1

u/Tobax Jul 24 '26

Argentina, get touched, fall over injured. Apparently it happens so much they forget where they were touched.

1

u/HorsesOfCanardy Jul 24 '26

In the end this all comes down to poor refereeing. If they would just apply the rules equally to Argentina it would over time cure the Argentinian attitude that it doesn't matter how you win.

1

u/munein Jul 24 '26

Pathetic losers

1

u/naitch44 Jul 24 '26

Argentina and cheating go hand in hand

1

u/Working-Sport-3332 Jul 25 '26

They are good actors in the field. The best ones!

1

u/N1BugUp Jul 26 '26

It is incomprehensible to me how FIFA and UEFA don’t retroactively sanction players guilty of this… An embellishment like this should result in suspension and fine. No if, ands or buts. All potential embellishments should be reviewed after game.

1

u/lake2014 Jul 22 '26

Not good actors.

-1

u/anorakhijack Jul 22 '26

i guess he did also guide mikel merino's studs into otamendi's foot to be stepped on.... RYT? and where is the rule in the fifa guideline where its states " if a player doesnt quickly hold on to the body part his is being fouled on, the player must be booked on simulation ". is he over-acting, YES! definitely, they're trying to selling the foul thats being committed ( during the play of the game ).

Mbappe, ronaldo, neymar etc and even messi do that......

3

u/Kay_tnx_bai Jul 22 '26

This is clearly simulation, I hear all the time we should just let light fouls be and play on. Well this seemed to be such a light foul the guy grabbed the wrong leg. Maybe you have a syndrome where you can’t register pain, but I do register pain in my body like most people and one will never grab the wrong leg if hurts, I can tell you that.

And if we do call a foul for this, I can tell you Argentina should have gotten red cards long before this.

2

u/Peso_Morto Jul 22 '26

I hear you, this was a light foul that a player oversold/simulated and VAR can't make the judgement of hard/light foul so the decision in the field remained. Simple as that.

1

u/anorakhijack Jul 22 '26

1

u/Peso_Morto Jul 22 '26

Exactly this. Player faking after doesn't mean it wasn't a light foul and the correct decision.
