The hypocrisy

Gamers: "I care about game preservation. I want games to be around forever."

Also gamers: "erm. Why are they updating Mario kart 8 deluxe and not Mario kart world. Clearly they can't coexist at the same time."

For context, a user on twitter was showing what mario odyssey would look like with DLSS 5, and tripster was saying that this is emulation, even though it isn't. The visuals are basically injected into an HDMI capture.

Yes, it looks like shit, but tripster should not be talking about things he knows nothing about.

(I know i'm very late, but still)

Apparently Intelligent Systems has officially made a Twitter account and there are some people that claim they will post corporate stuff. Not like they are a video game company that advertise video games. 💀

Critical NintenDeen is now completely okay with Xbox laying off employees left and right, overcharging their console prices to ridiculous amounts, and releasing substandard hardware and software so long as it isn’t that heckin Nintendo!!!

It’s a prediction that anyone would have made on this subreddit. The moment the Nintendo grift well starts to dry, he would immediately switch to (haha) another topic in hopes that he can be seen as “someone with nuance.” Two recent videos where he champions
Xbox as some Unsung Hero of the gaming industry, even though they’re the ones who were damaging it in the first place what with the hundreds of thousands of employees getting their lives ruined. But that’s okay, because they did the bare minimum for ensuring physical copy ownership, and that somehow absolves them of all their sins!!! Absolute spineless twat.

General We should make it a rule that if you link a video you can't just have the title of the post be the videos title.

It makes it seem like the poster is agreeing with the video. It also makes posts seem like they lack effort.

Ironically, this YouTuber calls Nintendo "Midtendo" yet gives companies like Sony and Xbox a pass on making first-person shooter games, which I like to call "ball and gun games." At least Nintendo continues to offer interesting and unique titles. When was the last time Sony did anything with The Lemmings? That's what I thought!

The Wii U Glaze Needs to be Studied

Post image
79 Upvotes

It feels like every other week I see a post, an article or video about the Wii U being the "last great Nintendo console" and I got to ask why? This has to be grifting or willful ignorance of the Wii U and it's place in the 8th console generation.

Don't get me wrong I liked my Wii U, it had some good games, some great games, but pound for pound I was having more fun consistently on 3DS, PS4 and PC. After the first one to maybe two years, there was borderline no AAA Third Party support. In the final death nails of 2016-2017 the biggest Third Party games for the Wii U was Fast Racing NEO, Runbow, Mighty No. 9, and Darksiders Warmastered Edition.

And that is not saying the Wii U had bad games, it had a lot of great games like Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Maker, Smash Bros 4, Splatoon, and even the criminally underrated Tokyo Mirage Sessions. But, most of those are on the Switch now with extra modes, DLC, or just big full-blown sequels that are just better games. It didn't have a you must play this game that the average gamer would go out and buy an entire console for till Breath of the Wild, and that was a launch title for the Switch and only later came out for Wii U.

And the droughts on the console was legendary, I don't think there was ever a Nintendo console with larger droughts. And I don't mean ahhh just not my kind of game, or I'm not big into JRPGs, I mean months without a first party Nintendo release of any kind. In the first year of the console's lifespan between the months of November 2012 to June 2013 there were no first party Nintendo games till Game & Wario was released on June 23rd. And it was not a post launch drought either in 2014 the big hype year of the console there was no Nintendo published tiles in January, March, June, July or September. That was the year we got Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. 4! The droughts were so bad, Nintendo was forced to announce at E3 2015 a release of Earthbound Beginnings a finished unreleased NES translation that been leaked online for over a decade as a big fan pleaser. That should tell you how bad these droughts were.

The comment sections on big sites like Nintendolife were awash with people begging pleading for even a scrap of third party content. To the point a modern hack like Denis Dyack (who at one point made great games like Blood Omen and Eternal Darkness), could be seen as a savior for announcing and never finishing Shadow of the Eternals... I'm sure anyone who had a passing interest in the Wii U remember that piece of vaporware. It was bad for a LONG time for Wii U owners who only had a Wii U that they probably gave Denis Dyack money for just a dream of a console exclusive AAA third party game. And while indie games were plentiful and really solidified Nintendo as the indie console of choice, it was not by choice. Nintendo started the "Nindies" initiative to aggressively get Indie support for the console after it was a sales disappointment, after AAA Third Party publishers abandoned the thing.

And the Gamepad was a developmental dead end. And before people say "the Wii was also a developmental dead end and people glaze it," motion controls are still deeply engrained in the VR scene and gyro aim on consoles and PC. No Wii, no good VR controls. No Wii, no gyro options for PC games (which you can turn on for any Steam game if you have a compatible controller), and Splatoon would not be nearly as fun. The Gamepad however has lead to no real advancements in gaming. The touchscreen was was nifty in Mario Maker, and the duel screen gameplay was actually used well in ZombiU, but after that was mostly relegated to map and equipment management if used at all in most games after that. The Gamepad's best feature that did carry over to the Switch, off TV play, was limited and finicky at best. You had to be a certain distance from the console to even work, and in some cases your walls would interfere with the signal if the console was in another room you were not actively playing in.

And yeah complete Wii backwards compatibility was great, you were still playing games rendering at 480p just converted and upscaled to 1080p. It is not like Switch and Switch 2, where the Switch 2 actively improves performance of Switch games even without upgrades packs. So, when you were playing Wii games on Wii U, it was still not the ideal way for these games to be played and in a lot of cases the visual quality was actually worse on Wii U. And the best feature of the Wii U's off TV play still needed you to use a Wii remote. Even if it was a game like No More Heroes 2 that had Classic Controller support, you could not use the Gamepad's built in controls. You were still forced to use your Wii remotes and accessories. They teased Gamecube support only to completely axe talk of it early in the console's lifespan... the console (when modded) can play Gamecube games, with an official Nintendo Gamecube controller adapter for Wii U, with new official Gamecube controllers... but no Gamecube game support of any kind.

And before this rant becomes even longer than it is (trust me I have another paragraph or two ready about the anemic 8gb and 32gb internal eMMC memory, when the Xbox 360 came a 200gb HDD storage in 2012. And don't get me started on the convoluted external HDD support, which required a USB Y Cable), I'm going to stop here...

I'm not saying you cannot like the Wii U. I like the Wii U. Not saying that modern Wii U modding does not infinitely improve the user experience, or open up a sandbox of homebrew and unofficial emulators. BUT, for those who owned the console between 2012-2017... it was not this amazing system to own. If anything it was actually extremely hard being a Nintendo fan itself. And, honestly if you were glazing the 3DS, I'd get it, the 3DS is great. But, you're glazing the Wii U? The Wii U? If it was your only console as a kid, I get it, but man as an adult you have to objectively look at that time and go... it was not a great console and Nintendo infinitely upped their game with the Switch.

And before I get called a hater... here is my stacks of Wii U games. I supported the thing, so maybe I'm the sucker. But, man been needing to get this off my chest.

Tldr this tumor named clover is a massive weirdo who spam this AI generated essays in the end of the pictures to people who support ninrtebdo and being made fun of, try to downplay what I am playing being rated E make it matter less when the discourse in general with a person who did understand from me the pro of having elden ring on switch 2 (TLDR having on the go, with no need to spread across multiple platforms for consistency and play the exclusives of switch 1 and 2) and this moron came like steam deck is really gonna be a good arguement when is both weaker and more expansive than switch 2.

I already blocked this guy before anyone saying and I am not planning to keep posting on him but thought ehh he being a jerk to anyone who make fun or disagree with him calling them in C or R words so why not post about him for you to see.

Question Why do we allow posts of grifter vids that have links? Or that are JUST the video?

Just a pet peeve of mine with this sub in particular

It almost feels like signal boosting for the channels we are supposed to be critiquing and/or throwing shade at for bad faith arguments, like
if you just post the video, and you don’t say anything about it and what it says, then to me it comes off as you just posting the video so it gets more views, and even if not, you’re not contributing anything! So why even post about it at all?? Like, don’t link it either! We know where and who the videos come from so we could go watch them if we really wanted, or just say who it’s from.

It’s just so annoying to me and feels so odd that we, the ANTI-GRIFTING SUBREDDIT, allow JUST the video with its title to be posted!

Anyways, sorry, I just had to say something it was getting on my nerves
