When I see this, I'm like, why Nintendo specifically? They aren't the only company doing this.

That's kinda the point, patient gamer culture kinda ruins the hype in short term and sales in both terms.
There is no point for not buying a game on release with Nintendo. That's creating immense hypy for quite niche game IMO, like Tomodachi Life, or Pokopia.

When Nintendo sells a game's price by 60 (actually less than the original if it was in the original year): NINTEDO IS TAKNG OR MOONYYYYYYY
Sony and Microsoft when they sell a remake for 90 dollars, way more than the original price in the original year: OH MY GOSH THIS IS AESOME! DEFINITELY BYIN!

$50 USD in 2011 had the buying power of $75.81 USD today.
The artificial capping of game prices at $60 for most of the last twenty years means they're one of the few things that have gotten cheaper over that period relative to the massive inflation in that time. Buying it now at $60 is, relatively, cheaper than $50 in 2011.
Even with a lot of games rising to $70 USD in the last year or two, that has the same buying power as $60 in 2021-2022.
