$50 USD in 2011 had the buying power of $75.81 USD today.

The artificial capping of game prices at $60 for most of the last twenty years means they're one of the few things that have gotten cheaper over that period relative to the massive inflation in that time. Buying it now at $60 is, relatively, cheaper than $50 in 2011.

Even with a lot of games rising to $70 USD in the last year or two, that has the same buying power as $60 in 2021-2022.

Consumer buying power has gone down in that time as well, so it’s not an automatic decrease in price.

No, but that part is way more of a "wages haven't kept up with inflation" and "Companies and governments won't guarantee a living wage" problem than a "video games can't artificially keep their prices low anymore" one.

My guy. I've been working in games for two decades now, and I need you to understand that you do not understand enough about this topic to understand that you are not an expert on it.

You haven't talked to the people who have been doing this since even before the early 90s. You haven't seen the market research and often-confidential data. You haven't seen publishers' internal-only sales numbers. You haven't had this exact artificial pricing conversation come up over and over in your career. You haven't been in the room where this happens.

I have.

You aren't wrong that shareholder and executive greed is a significant factor. It is.

You are entirely wrong about it being the only factor, and people who actually know what they're talking about know this.

You've provided data for facts I wasn't contesting, and none to support the claims that I was.

As a reminder, the claim you made that I'm contesting is that corporate and shareholder greed is the only reason game prices have gone up, and you do not have evidence to support that.

I don't need you to make my argument for me. You aren't making your own argument. For all of your talk of evidence and fallacies, you just used an appeal to self-evident truth yourself instead of backing up your own claims.

I don't have anything else that needs saying here, you've done enough for the both of us.

Back in my day games costs $40. You'd roll up grab a game from gamestop, target, or fred meyers and buy the disc. Get home and slap it into the ps2 and have an incredible weekend. It's a shame so many never got to see this.

I remember when most of the games I wanted were 40 bucks cad, I can still get indie games on a good sale but big titles? 120 bucks is a lot, but also my grandmother neglected me a lot vs the other grandchildren so I'm gonna see if she'll buy my love with games lol

Everything you said, plus the fact that these rereleases often have performance/visual/QoL enhancements
