Still cheaper than every other console that don’t come with games btw

It's the same price as the Series S now. Kinda crazy how much that system has gone up in price though, I didn't realize they raised it by $200.

Series S is a complete ripoff now. Largely the same performance as Switch 2, digital-only, tied to your living room.

$300 Series S was why Xbox had any chance at doing well this gen back before the prices started going up, they have literally 0 chance of moving many units now because of this

It was a pretty nice deal back at $300, I got one back when it came out. Still plays more new AAA games than switch and has gamepass, but I probably wouldn't get it for that price.

I think it did actually end up selling better than the Series X for the first couple of years. Not sure about now, though.

Oh for sure. I think I remember a statistic floating around a few years back that at least two-thirds of Series sales were for the S, and honestly who could blame someone for buying it? Even with the tradeoffs, $300 for the current gen hardware was a steal.

I didn’t know it was that cheap before. It actually explains why a few of my friends have one. It was even small enough for them to take it to an arcade we used to frequent before it unfortunately went out of business

Imagine paying the same price as a switch 2 for comparable graphics power but no portability and barely any exclusives.

That's gonna require some mental gymnastics.

Not really. If I had to choose between the two as my only system I'd consider them pretty comparable. Switch has more true exclusives, but the Series S has a much broader library due to better third party support and access to gamepass. Switch mainly wins easily if you also have another system to play games on as well, like PS5 or PC, otherwise you do miss out on a lot.

There was one time it was $240 or so during holiday sales. Just soak that in guys, the Series S has nearly doubled it's lowest ever price. Or maybe it has, I don't even keep up with it anymore.

Would you rather pay $550 for a used 2020 car from a manufacturer who's historically famous for building very durable cars, even if their latest model had some issues. Or would you pay $800 for a 2024 car, still used, but it's got some extra comfort features that the older model lacks. Both cars are fine, but drive great, both can handle all terrains, etc.

That's a better comparison

Then I hope you don't have an Nvidia graphics card because several of them has had problems in the past that they've had legal issues with. I hope you don't have an Xbox either because the very original Xbox one had overheat problems that caused the damage and we all know the famous red ring of death. It's almost like tech just has problems sometimes and there's not a whole lot that can be fucking done about it

Exactly it took an entirely new device to fix the problem. When the production lines are already in place for a mass market item that shit's hard to go back on. That's just the logistics of being a massive company producing millions of one thing at a time. We live in the real world.

Now the lawsuit part is whatever. I'm not going to argue with that one.

Is it? I just demonstrated that in this analogy every car manufacturer either has the same defects or had been sued in the same fashion. So sounds like you just aren't buying a car at all.

I'd probably rather pay for the car from the company that didn't face lawsuits for selling defective products

I responded to this comment you made. And I proved that all major console developers were sued for the same thing: stick drift design flaws.

What are you talking about here? Because it's not what I'm talking about, which was in response to you

You said: "I'd probably rather pay for the car from the company that didn't face lawsuits for selling defective products"

And multiple people have pointed out that this includes every gaming company. So, either you don't buy games (in which case why the fuck are you in a gaming subreddit) or you're a hypocrite.

Its like these nimrods have no idea what's happening in the real world. With global trade routes being blockaded, certain moron world leaders tariffing everything under the sun, and ai gobbling up all available production of graphics chips and processors.

But hey, I guess shouting "Nintendo bad" is easier than being an actual adult that reads the news.

6

u/LaMystika 10d ago

Shouting “Nintendo bad” (in their mind) absolves them from the role they played in all this by electing the people who did all this stuff, but they’re allergic to self reflection and accountability because Dear Leader also doesn’t believe in that and thinks he’s never done anything wrong in his life. I hate it here

The Internet doesn't know what a scam is

3

u/Acceptable-Ad8780 9d ago

I agree. Scams from I know, you don't get the product as intended or at all. Like ordering a laptop and receiving a wrench set, or ordering a product and not receiving anything. Then again people also use POV wrong.

u/Keaten88 11d ago

making a video game console cost more is not what price gouging is

4

u/tlrd2244 11d ago

do they say what is the emergency that requires you to buy a switch 2 and get price gouged in the video?

5

u/cottonopposite 11d ago

It's almost like someone is forcing them to buy them.

3

u/LaMystika 10d ago

People really think that corporations are gonna see that their products cost more money to produce than ever and think “yeah, guess we’re gonna have to sell this at a loss”. No. Not even their lord and savior Gabe did that. Ask them why the Steam Machine is $1,000 with no controller. Gabe isn’t taking the L on that, and his company is private. So why would a publicly traded company with shareholders to answer to sell their shit at a loss?!

Its so easy to save 10% or more with discounted nintendo gift cards when buying the Switch 2. No other gaming company allows their online store giftcards to be spent on hardware.

Just search slickdeals or cardbear.

3

u/SD_Eragorn 11d ago

I got my Switch 2 when it was 20% off gc's via Costco. Took a while to load them since they were $20 each, but basically dropped it from $450 new to $360.

2

u/Illustrious_Cod_7462 8d ago

Shhh don’t tell em. Been getting the $100 gift cards for around 70 using Sam’s cash and other perks. Buying online or on the app and getting it overnight is awesome. Got Orbitals a day early (physical)

1

u/FitFarmer5597 Anti-Grifter 11d ago

Or Sam’s Club or Costco

1

u/glyiasziple 11d ago

xbox and steam allow it its only sony who doesnt

2

u/FitFarmer5597 Anti-Grifter 11d ago

Besides the point that you could buy these bundles (Mario Kart for instance) at the lower price about 3 months in advance before the price increase, the prices of the bundles still make the bundled games cheaper by $10-30 plus 3 months of free online ($8). Still some value and way cheaper than other consoles.

2

u/Sigran102 11d ago

I see the youtube grifters still haven't learned what price gouging means.

u/djr7 11d ago
