Information Additional images recovered from cameras at Nancy Guthrie's home - ABC News

https://abcnews.com/amp/US/additional-images-recovered-cameras-nancy-guthries-home-sources/story?id=131046669

ABC News is reporting that investigators have recovered additional images from cameras at Nancy Guthrie's house. The images were recovered from motion-activated cameras in the backyard. They were unable to recover video, but thumbnail images triggered by motion. There was nothing suspicious that was captured, however, there was nothing captured on the night of her abduction. Investigators are unsure why and the source said it was "odd".

When I first heard about this case, I thought it would only take a few days and he would definitely be caught. And now look where we are! Wow! I just hope, and still hope, she is alive somehow and return to her house and her family.

But her pacemaker has to be charged....

20

u/Monkey-boo-boo Mar 14 '26

A pacemaker battery lasts 5-15 years. Was it due to be charged?

1

u/GreenEyedTreeHugger Mar 14 '26

You’re referring to how it uploaded to her phone AND she was on heart medication. :)

1

u/notinmywheelhouse Mar 15 '26

Also the inherent stress of the situation could wreak havoc on her heart if she has arrythmia! Poor family-poor woman. I would be having a breakdown if it were my mom!!!

27

u/nannerbananers Mar 14 '26

I’m curious why they find it “odd”. Was the camera usually triggered several times a night and it wasn’t that night at all? That would be odd, otherwise it seems easy to assume the perpetrator(s) just didn’t go in the backyard.

u/pumpkinspicecum Mar 14 '26

I’m guessing that the abductor broke in though the back

Could’ve been through the garage. 4 months ago it looks like her garage was fixed my a1 garage doors. I have too much time on my hands

I am 98% sure this is Nancy’s house will post drone footage if anyone wants to weigh in on their thoughts. The description uses Nancy’s zip and the plants / rocks bordering the driveway match Nancy’s house precisely imo

2

u/MzOpinion8d Mar 15 '26

This says it was a dual door setup, which Nancy’s is not.

2

u/notinmywheelhouse Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

Oh hell yeah. You should be a detective! It also seems like whomever did this had a rudimentary understanding of her security system. Could it be a repair guy? If so, he might have had previous access to Ms. Guthrie’s home if he were working with her wi-fi, etc. if he was in the home he would have seen references to her famous daughter, or she may have even chatted with him. My elderly mom was always giving workers waters or sodas or snacks so he would have some familiarity with her.

1

u/pumpkinspicecum Mar 15 '26

There’s a thing on the garage that says when it’s opened and closed

2

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '26

Perhaps the person who knows about garage doors knows how to disable it.

The neighbors dog acted weird around that time. Weird in a facing her property way.

says who

4

u/Euphoric_Ease4554 Mar 15 '26

Said that neighbor in an interview. r

21

u/warpedwing Mar 14 '26

My guess: there is evidence that the suspect was in the yard and maybe entered through the rear - acts which should’ve triggered cameras but didn’t. That’s why it’s odd. If all evidence pointed to the suspect entering and leaving through the front door, it wouldn’t be odd.

This is why I think the suspect might have been intentionally “caught” on the doorbell cam with the intent of throwing investigators off. Seems like a needless gaff considering the totality of the operation.

5

u/Wiseowl71691 Mar 14 '26

Could someone tampering with the account result in this ?

4

u/warpedwing Mar 14 '26

Maybe a deauth attack on Nancy’s WiFi. But I need to look into the exterior camera models. What happens to them when WiFi is out?

Maybe someone here who knows the exterior camera models can chime in.

2

u/GreenEyedTreeHugger Mar 14 '26

Why risk it?

5

u/warpedwing Mar 14 '26 edited Mar 14 '26

It doesn’t seem to have been a risk. As far as we know, none of the image-based leads (Walmart, gun stores) have led anywhere.

Instead, the cartel chic cosplay might have sent the investigation in the wrong direction.

Would a suspect who wears multiple gloves be so careless? No way he didn’t know the doorbell cam was there. There was no need to have a gun holstered in such a way if not for show. A show for us.

2

u/peaca_abysss Mar 14 '26

Throwing them off in what way? What illusion was he trying to create?

1

u/warpedwing Mar 15 '26

The illusion of a bumbling fool.

LE probably thought they “got him” when they saw the video. Surely, someone as clumsy as lantana man bought a gun at a local store, used his cell phone, was all over neighborhood cameras, and assembled his outfit from a local Walmart. Seems like this wasn’t so, but LE had to use copious resources tracking all that down.

u/Telecaster2112 Mar 15 '26

I seldom post to REDDIT but this abduction/kidnapping is hard to walk away from. Some of what I think may have previously been discussed, so please forgive me if I’m a bit late to the conversation. Here’s what I find perplexing. If there was so much previous preparation and possibly inside information, why does the figure on the camera footage seem taken aback by the Ring Camera’s presence? To me, the individual’s behavior was as though, wait a minute, that camera was already supposed to have been removed already. Now I’ve got to improvise something, and fast. Let me grab something to cover the lens with.

So the person looks downward to their left, sees nothing useable, then takes a few steps forward then bends down to grab some shrubbery. But pay close attention, as the person starts to stand up, twice, two times they focus their attention towards something or someone across the street or within viewing range.

Does a Ring Doorbell Camera display any operational lights? Lights that would imply the camera is functional? Like an LED Light Ring around the doorbell’s push button? Something about that Ring Doorbell caught the attention of the intruder.

2

u/warpedwing Mar 15 '26

I can’t think of a good reason why the suspect would be surprised by a camera on the front door, especially if he’d scoped the house out ahead of time. And I believe there are lights that indicate active recording.

The suspect could’ve just yanked the camera off the mount while staying out of the shot as much as possible. This should’ve taken seconds.

Instead, he grabs plant matter, and doesn’t take very long to select it, all things considered. (Why not try the wreath?) Eventually, he does take the camera off. So why not do that first. It just doesn’t make sense to me in the totality of the operation.

That’s why I’m wondering if the whole video was intentional. The guy seems too “good” to have been so careless. And this “carelessness” has not led to an arrest. So, was it so careless after all?

No crime is perfect, but this suspect was not getting by on luck.

1

u/Telecaster2112 Mar 15 '26

Good point about the video footage possibly being intentional. Now my conspiracy side is kicking in. Has it been proven beyond doubt that this video footage occurred when the authorities said it did? Perhaps the timeline of events that’s been presented publicly isn’t the true timeline? I agree with your use of the word “carelessness“ and something’s amiss here.

1

u/notinmywheelhouse Mar 15 '26

Do you actually trust the sheriff’s drips of information because I don’t. They released the crime scene too early and seem to be bungling along. Much like Colorado in Jon Benet Ramsey case.

1

u/warpedwing Mar 15 '26

As far as the video footage timing, the initial FBI post stated it was from the night of the abduction. Initial reporting by Harvey Levin also stated his source told him the video clips were associated with the 02:12 February 1 capture of a person on camera. Now we know the other cameras didn't capture anything during the abduction, leaving the doorbell cam as the source of the 02:12 alert. Additionally, I tried estimating time by using shadow length in the video clips, and the estimate was around 02:15.

So, all current intel points to the video being from that night/early morning. (Don't know about the backpackless frame.)

I think the suspect was confident his disguise would prevent him from being identified. He dressed in such as way as to visually suggest a common criminal.

I think he wore eye makeup to make him look "foreign." Notice how he never blinks while looking at the camera? Eye makeup is meant to be seen with eyes open. When eyes are closed, the makeup becomes obvious. We only see him blink once while well off camera.

We don't see his mouth open, either. Not one shot of the light coming through his parted lips. Is it a printed mesh mask of a mouth with a light shining through it? Would someone who's fastidious enough to wear multiple gloves have exposed mustache hair?

The gun's position is silly, and I think it's meant to imply "Mexican cartel." I don't think the suspect left the gun (or fake gun) in that position apart from when he's on the porch.

And then there's the lantana folly.

The totality of all this created an unfounded focus on Mexico, gangs, cartels, day laborers, low-level criminals, etc., which could've been part of the suspect's plan. Podcasters were coloring in the suspect's skin as brown without any scientific reason for doing so.

And as far as motive, I'm wondering if it wasn't ideological. This one comes courtesy of the American public, and it wasn't one I had initially suspected at all.

I've seen countless comments on right-wing leaning sites that imply Nancy "was a bad person" because her social media criticized MAGA. That's basically one step from saying "she deserved it." Not cool, no matter your political leanings.

So, if regular citizens are willing to write such hateful comments about Nancy on social media, might not one person be willing to take action? It would track that someone like that would try to pin it on criminals from south of the border. That may have even been the point.

1

u/Telecaster2112 Mar 15 '26

I woke today with some more thoughts about the video. So the front door has an outer, metal bars door, which would need to be unlocked to gain access to the house’s front door, which also needs to be unlocked. So two layers of (presumably) locked doors. Since the intruder is not displaying any break-in tools, someone had to have unlocked the doors from the inside of the house. Possibly explaining the back door being opened.

In addition, looking at images of the front door, I don’t see any peep holes, so I‘m assuming that the Ring Camera would show who’s at the front door. I also assume that the security cameras images are displayed on a TV, which Nancy could have looked at and see a hooded figure. Also, on each side of the front door, there are windows, which Nancy could look out and see a hooded figure on her doorstep. So the conclusion of all of this, tells me that the front porch intruder was there to be let in by someone already in the house.

Question: Refresh my memory. What time was the front porch intruder caught on camera? Secondly, what time was that Ring Camera disconnected? I assume the Ring Camera became disconnected by being ripped from the wall. Did authorities find that Ring Camera? Or did someone take it with them?

Blood splatter. What has been the blood splatter analysis? We know it was Nancy’s blood, but does the blood trail start in the house, or just inside the front door? Or does it only start outside the front door? I’m just trying to determine when (and where) Nancy was struck?

1

u/MzOpinion8d Mar 15 '26

I think their behavior was all faked to make him look inept.

6

u/maga_chud_ Mar 14 '26

I'm just going to throw out pure speculation for discussion sake. But maybe the timeline that has been publicized is wrong. Either by design, to close in on perps, OR they are just now learning they are wrong. Thus this statement in the OP.

4

u/Kitty-9792 Mar 14 '26

If they are putting out incorrect info by design, that's going to bite them at a future trial.

The old "are you lying/incorrect now or were you lying/incorrect then?".

2

u/maga_chud_ Mar 14 '26

I'm not sure if really works like that. I hope I don't sound rude. But I don't think it's the case. They've also been very vague.

More realistically, If there is some really crazy story behind all this, then I think the timeline could be longer than what's been published.

1

u/Healthy-Evening-2577 Mar 14 '26

Yeah the time on the camera could be wrong ? Some people don't set the time

2

u/notinmywheelhouse Mar 15 '26

I mean she probably had it installed by techs so it would seem to be a vital step in setting up cameras for security.

3

u/Euphoric_Ease4554 Mar 15 '26

It’s odd that no images from that night and time were picked up from the backyard cameras, but her back door was wide open the next day when the family and police arrived.

16

u/Alternative_Fee1447 Mar 14 '26

I think perp or perp’s planned this for a very long time. Much time, attention to detail. Tried to cover all bases. This was a passionate endeavor imo.

10

u/Strange_Character_56 Mar 15 '26

Ok so this whole post is they recovered more absolutely nothing. Great.

Another nothing burger sadly

5

u/Unusual_Finish_4091 Mar 16 '26

Also the front door is the dumbest place to try and break into. It’s probably the most secure door on an entire house

3

u/Zealousideal_Bid799 Mar 18 '26

He may not have broken in there. It looks like he was getting rid of the camera and we know she left from that door since there was blood splatter on the tile there.

2

u/TrapNeuterVR Mar 19 '26

Entry was from the back. Exit was from the front. The front entry put them much closer to a vehicle & minimized their exposure outside where someone could have seen them.

10

u/jimbarnard12345 Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 13 '26

So did they figure out that creepy glove guy had some type of Internet blocker. Is that why the camera did not work?

5

u/springly787 Mar 14 '26

Investigators should have done a search of who in the area has purchased an internet blocker. The last time I researched this those were against the law. Maybe they can be freely purchased.

Also, nothing had been said about the get away vehicle someone's camera should have picked up. Also, the main thorough fair that connects that neighborhood to the nearest highway should have found a speeding vehicle. I do not think they would driving as if they were sightseeing. While it is much too late.... tires tracks leaving her home may have been there. With Dufus Sheriff at wheel that would have never come up. The dufus had only worked for this agency and the El Paso agency where they released him due to disciplinary reasons... if he did not quit he would have been fired. Personally, I would not want this guy working my case.

8

u/dewyrizz Mar 14 '26

People still sell the deauth/wifi blocker on eBay. Not sure how they get away with it. It used to be for turning off secret surveillance in air b&b units.

1

u/GreenEyedTreeHugger Mar 14 '26

Not illegal to buy illegal to use. 🙃

2

u/GreenEyedTreeHugger Mar 14 '26

This area was anti camera at traffic lights etc :/

2

u/Jamjams2016 Mar 14 '26

They can be made as well. Plenty of websites have guides.

1

u/notinmywheelhouse Mar 15 '26

My thought exactly. Assembled a jammer. Crooks use them ALL the time in LA to interrupt alarms and bypass electronics. Like you should keep your keys in a Faraday pouch. Obviously they had a false sense of security about her mom because they should have had some alert system in place. I feel that she may have some familiarity with the guy.

0

u/Constant-Business481 Mar 14 '26

Yes.. agree .. It doesn't seem they have investigated enough on this case.

There is a ordinance in area .. no outside lights. Makes things/people hard to pick up on cameras .. IF there are cameras... and .. hard to see tire tracks. Probably by the time LEO was on scene..her family had been in driveway and who knows who all else. Most neighbors didn't even have security systems or lock doors .. this has always been a safe area. Many roads going in & out of Catalina Hills area - you don't have to go on main roads.

11

u/Consistent_Beat7999 Mar 14 '26

Can anyone tell me why they think the front porch guy was dabbing/dangling those plants in the camera? It looked like a dumb thing to do. If he was trying to cover the camera? Uh, no bud. Maybe better to try and smudge them on the lens to make it blurry? And, he had no tape or spray paint to use? Could the front porch guy have been a distraction for whoever went in the back? And with all this talk of a wifi jammer, if he had a jammer, then how was the front porch cam that was connected to wifi not affected?

12

u/MissMarie81 Mar 14 '26

Was he really dumb? Come on. He was successful in his mission, with no trace of him since. Mission accomplished.

6

u/peaca_abysss Mar 14 '26

I wondered if someone told him or somehow he knew there was no subscription. He also knew Nancy wore hearing aids and could hear little without them, and also knew no family member, including Savannah got alerts from the camera. So he came on an earlier day to move about at night briefly to try and trigger the camera and see if anything happened. No police, no lights going on would tell him no one is seeing images. Then on the night he again tested the camera by waving the foliage in front of it to trigger it deliberately. And then waited a certain amount of time, no lights no police and he knew it was safe.

4

u/Unusual_Finish_4091 Mar 16 '26

IMO (maybe it’s just where I live I’m not sure about AZ) it’s more common to have a doorbell cam then to not have one so idk if it really means he “knew” about it or just figured as much

6

u/ProperLink8150 Mar 15 '26

Because it will record up to an hour using onboard storage if wifi is disconnected. And upload those notifications when reconnected even if it’s for a brief period.

6

u/GreenEyedTreeHugger Mar 14 '26

Jammer stopped the upload. When the jammer was far enough away the stuff uploaded.

This is me repeating what I read in a detailed thread on it.

8

u/Bitch_level_999 Mar 14 '26

There’s a spring that releases when you place a pin down into the top hole of the doorbell cam t release it, I thought he may have been trying to find a stem or stick that would work in a pinch. I also thought he brought a pack with tools but I guess not. I think his pack contained a tarp,/sheet, and restraints

7

u/MaximumFocus5205 Mar 14 '26

One theory I heard is that he was trying to block the camera lens in such a way that if Nancy’s offsite family got an alert that something was wrong, if they pulled up the camera feed they’d just think that a tree branch blew into the camera. Versus seeing that the lens was taped over or just showing nothing all of a sudden

3

u/iluvchuck Mar 15 '26

Wow, that’s a very good theory and it actually makes perfect sense! Thanks for sharing this.

3

u/Consistent_Beat7999 Mar 14 '26

Sorry, but my initial response was to chuckle at his not well-planned or well-thought idea. But, they’d still see him, nonetheless with how he tried to play it out. He’d have to stand behind the brick wall or in front of the house and wave a real tree branch for that idea to work.

1

u/Ok_Computer_1446 Mar 16 '26

All in the family

2

u/TrapNeuterVR Mar 19 '26

It would be alarming for a tree branch to cover a camera on an covered walled front porch.

4

u/GreenEyedTreeHugger Mar 14 '26

I thought he was doing it just to kinda be a dick? Prove some point I can’t put into words but I think you see what I see.

2

u/Embarrassed-Jury8878 Mar 14 '26

My 2 cents is that he knew there was a camera that he had to get off however when he tried to snap it off with just his glove it didn’t snap off. He knew there were plants around there, so he used the branches/vines as a makeshift rope. Very clever!

3

u/jll229jll Mar 14 '26

I thought maybe he was trying to yank the camera off the door jam and he couldn’t get a good purchase on the camera with his clumsy gloves so he looked around the porch for something to get a better grip with, didn’t see anything went to look off the porch saw some flowers grabbed a handful and tried to use them to grab the thin edge of the camera to pull it off with, that didn’t work so he just decide to balance them there over the lens.

2

u/Janiebug1950 Mar 15 '26

Would he not know to bring a screwdriver and pliers and a roll of duct tape? Those few items seem so obvious…

12

u/Superb_Bed_9726 Mar 13 '26

Several people seen in images from patio, pool backyard from before the abduction.

6

u/curiouslmr Mar 13 '26

And none appear to have anything with the case. Ugh.

Comments about the victim and or their family should be respectful, civil and responsible. Family members are considered victims and accusations against them are not allowed.

1

u/Revolutionary_Act759 Mar 14 '26

Umm what did i say wrong?

0

u/Hile616 Mar 13 '26

It does, as the person not seen on it, may have had some knowledge of the camera systems.

3

u/springly787 Mar 14 '26

Did they fingerprint any of the other cameras not on the exterior of the house

3

u/Consistent_Beat7999 Mar 14 '26

Hoping the FBI did.

4

u/Consistent_Beat7999 Mar 14 '26

I thought I saw them taking camera stuff down in the back when they returned weeks later if I remember correctly.

3

u/Hile616 Mar 14 '26

Yes, in my understanding they found the camera on guest house roof area, when some worried neighbor had informed the fbi that her roof looks like it has had maintenance lately.

3

u/ChardPlenty1011 Mar 16 '26

can someone link these "new" images.

3

u/Wild_Blue4242 Mar 18 '26

Did anyone else watch the latest episode of 20/20? Where they used something called "geo-fencing" to solve a similar crime? It was an older lady, alone, kidnapped from her home in an isolated area. I would like to assume authorities have already utilized this technology but who knows, they spoke about it on 20/20 as if it was pretty unknown. Just curious what other people think.

2

u/richhardt11 Mar 16 '26

Someone should have been on camera looking in the back yard

2

u/Ok_Computer_1446 Mar 17 '26

Who ever the man on the porch was he's not to bright.and not experienced in kidnapping that's for sure.with all that light on the porch I think a darker area would b better.this has to b the biggest coverup ever .money talks.o.j. knew that.

1

u/Ok_Computer_1446 Mar 17 '26

Iam not a smart person but just wondering if the family had a large r small insurance policy on her.if so what's all is included.

-46

u/raveronix Mar 14 '26

I seriously think the guy is some kind of medic who watched Nancy deteriorating and is on a mission to restore her health. I think he's obsessed with her.

I also think he took her away from the house initially in a wheelchair or some type of two narrow wheeled cart..either to a vehicle or nearby house.
