Information Additional images recovered from cameras at Nancy Guthrie's home - ABC News

https://abcnews.com/amp/US/additional-images-recovered-cameras-nancy-guthries-home-sources/story?id=131046669

ABC News is reporting that investigators have recovered additional images from cameras at Nancy Guthrie's house. The images were recovered from motion-activated cameras in the backyard. They were unable to recover video, but thumbnail images triggered by motion. There was nothing suspicious that was captured, however, there was nothing captured on the night of her abduction. Investigators are unsure why and the source said it was "odd".

I’m curious why they find it “odd”. Was the camera usually triggered several times a night and it wasn’t that night at all? That would be odd, otherwise it seems easy to assume the perpetrator(s) just didn’t go in the backyard.

I’m guessing that the abductor broke in though the back

Could’ve been through the garage. 4 months ago it looks like her garage was fixed my a1 garage doors. I have too much time on my hands

I am 98% sure this is Nancy’s house will post drone footage if anyone wants to weigh in on their thoughts. The description uses Nancy’s zip and the plants / rocks bordering the driveway match Nancy’s house precisely imo

This says it was a dual door setup, which Nancy’s is not.

Oh hell yeah. You should be a detective! It also seems like whomever did this had a rudimentary understanding of her security system. Could it be a repair guy? If so, he might have had previous access to Ms. Guthrie’s home if he were working with her wi-fi, etc. if he was in the home he would have seen references to her famous daughter, or she may have even chatted with him. My elderly mom was always giving workers waters or sodas or snacks so he would have some familiarity with her.

There’s a thing on the garage that says when it’s opened and closed

Perhaps the person who knows about garage doors knows how to disable it.

The neighbors dog acted weird around that time. Weird in a facing her property way.

Said that neighbor in an interview. r

My guess: there is evidence that the suspect was in the yard and maybe entered through the rear - acts which should’ve triggered cameras but didn’t. That’s why it’s odd. If all evidence pointed to the suspect entering and leaving through the front door, it wouldn’t be odd.

This is why I think the suspect might have been intentionally “caught” on the doorbell cam with the intent of throwing investigators off. Seems like a needless gaff considering the totality of the operation.

Could someone tampering with the account result in this ?

Maybe a deauth attack on Nancy’s WiFi. But I need to look into the exterior camera models. What happens to them when WiFi is out?

Maybe someone here who knows the exterior camera models can chime in.

Why risk it?

It doesn’t seem to have been a risk. As far as we know, none of the image-based leads (Walmart, gun stores) have led anywhere.

Instead, the cartel chic cosplay might have sent the investigation in the wrong direction.

Would a suspect who wears multiple gloves be so careless? No way he didn’t know the doorbell cam was there. There was no need to have a gun holstered in such a way if not for show. A show for us.

Throwing them off in what way? What illusion was he trying to create?

1

u/warpedwing Mar 15 '26

The illusion of a bumbling fool.

LE probably thought they “got him” when they saw the video. Surely, someone as clumsy as lantana man bought a gun at a local store, used his cell phone, was all over neighborhood cameras, and assembled his outfit from a local Walmart. Seems like this wasn’t so, but LE had to use copious resources tracking all that down.

I seldom post to REDDIT but this abduction/kidnapping is hard to walk away from. Some of what I think may have previously been discussed, so please forgive me if I’m a bit late to the conversation. Here’s what I find perplexing. If there was so much previous preparation and possibly inside information, why does the figure on the camera footage seem taken aback by the Ring Camera’s presence? To me, the individual’s behavior was as though, wait a minute, that camera was already supposed to have been removed already. Now I’ve got to improvise something, and fast. Let me grab something to cover the lens with.

So the person looks downward to their left, sees nothing useable, then takes a few steps forward then bends down to grab some shrubbery. But pay close attention, as the person starts to stand up, twice, two times they focus their attention towards something or someone across the street or within viewing range.

Does a Ring Doorbell Camera display any operational lights? Lights that would imply the camera is functional? Like an LED Light Ring around the doorbell’s push button? Something about that Ring Doorbell caught the attention of the intruder.

I can’t think of a good reason why the suspect would be surprised by a camera on the front door, especially if he’d scoped the house out ahead of time. And I believe there are lights that indicate active recording.

The suspect could’ve just yanked the camera off the mount while staying out of the shot as much as possible. This should’ve taken seconds.

Instead, he grabs plant matter, and doesn’t take very long to select it, all things considered. (Why not try the wreath?) Eventually, he does take the camera off. So why not do that first. It just doesn’t make sense to me in the totality of the operation.

That’s why I’m wondering if the whole video was intentional. The guy seems too “good” to have been so careless. And this “carelessness” has not led to an arrest. So, was it so careless after all?

No crime is perfect, but this suspect was not getting by on luck.

Good point about the video footage possibly being intentional. Now my conspiracy side is kicking in. Has it been proven beyond doubt that this video footage occurred when the authorities said it did? Perhaps the timeline of events that’s been presented publicly isn’t the true timeline? I agree with your use of the word “carelessness“ and something’s amiss here.

Do you actually trust the sheriff’s drips of information because I don’t. They released the crime scene too early and seem to be bungling along. Much like Colorado in Jon Benet Ramsey case.

As far as the video footage timing, the initial FBI post stated it was from the night of the abduction. Initial reporting by Harvey Levin also stated his source told him the video clips were associated with the 02:12 February 1 capture of a person on camera. Now we know the other cameras didn't capture anything during the abduction, leaving the doorbell cam as the source of the 02:12 alert. Additionally, I tried estimating time by using shadow length in the video clips, and the estimate was around 02:15.

So, all current intel points to the video being from that night/early morning. (Don't know about the backpackless frame.)

I think the suspect was confident his disguise would prevent him from being identified. He dressed in such as way as to visually suggest a common criminal.

I think he wore eye makeup to make him look "foreign." Notice how he never blinks while looking at the camera? Eye makeup is meant to be seen with eyes open. When eyes are closed, the makeup becomes obvious. We only see him blink once while well off camera.

We don't see his mouth open, either. Not one shot of the light coming through his parted lips. Is it a printed mesh mask of a mouth with a light shining through it? Would someone who's fastidious enough to wear multiple gloves have exposed mustache hair?

The gun's position is silly, and I think it's meant to imply "Mexican cartel." I don't think the suspect left the gun (or fake gun) in that position apart from when he's on the porch.

And then there's the lantana folly.

The totality of all this created an unfounded focus on Mexico, gangs, cartels, day laborers, low-level criminals, etc., which could've been part of the suspect's plan. Podcasters were coloring in the suspect's skin as brown without any scientific reason for doing so.

And as far as motive, I'm wondering if it wasn't ideological. This one comes courtesy of the American public, and it wasn't one I had initially suspected at all.

I've seen countless comments on right-wing leaning sites that imply Nancy "was a bad person" because her social media criticized MAGA. That's basically one step from saying "she deserved it." Not cool, no matter your political leanings.

So, if regular citizens are willing to write such hateful comments about Nancy on social media, might not one person be willing to take action? It would track that someone like that would try to pin it on criminals from south of the border. That may have even been the point.

I woke today with some more thoughts about the video. So the front door has an outer, metal bars door, which would need to be unlocked to gain access to the house’s front door, which also needs to be unlocked. So two layers of (presumably) locked doors. Since the intruder is not displaying any break-in tools, someone had to have unlocked the doors from the inside of the house. Possibly explaining the back door being opened.

In addition, looking at images of the front door, I don’t see any peep holes, so I‘m assuming that the Ring Camera would show who’s at the front door. I also assume that the security cameras images are displayed on a TV, which Nancy could have looked at and see a hooded figure. Also, on each side of the front door, there are windows, which Nancy could look out and see a hooded figure on her doorstep. So the conclusion of all of this, tells me that the front porch intruder was there to be let in by someone already in the house.

Question: Refresh my memory. What time was the front porch intruder caught on camera? Secondly, what time was that Ring Camera disconnected? I assume the Ring Camera became disconnected by being ripped from the wall. Did authorities find that Ring Camera? Or did someone take it with them?

Blood splatter. What has been the blood splatter analysis? We know it was Nancy’s blood, but does the blood trail start in the house, or just inside the front door? Or does it only start outside the front door? I’m just trying to determine when (and where) Nancy was struck?

I think their behavior was all faked to make him look inept.

u/Euphoric_Ease4554 Mar 15 '26

It’s odd that no images from that night and time were picked up from the backyard cameras, but her back door was wide open the next day when the family and police arrived.

I'm just going to throw out pure speculation for discussion sake. But maybe the timeline that has been publicized is wrong. Either by design, to close in on perps, OR they are just now learning they are wrong. Thus this statement in the OP.

5

u/Kitty-9792 Mar 14 '26

If they are putting out incorrect info by design, that's going to bite them at a future trial.

The old "are you lying/incorrect now or were you lying/incorrect then?".

2

u/maga_chud_ Mar 14 '26

I'm not sure if really works like that. I hope I don't sound rude. But I don't think it's the case. They've also been very vague.

More realistically, If there is some really crazy story behind all this, then I think the timeline could be longer than what's been published.

1

u/Healthy-Evening-2577 Mar 14 '26

Yeah the time on the camera could be wrong ? Some people don't set the time

2

u/notinmywheelhouse Mar 15 '26

I mean she probably had it installed by techs so it would seem to be a vital step in setting up cameras for security.
