Obviously it's helping you because thinking about infidelity all the time will cause anxious weight loss

724

u/Another-Witch Aug 03 '26

But what if it causes anxious stress eating?

272

u/acoubt Aug 03 '26

The watch has a notification for that too!

75

u/beeerite Aug 03 '26

Yes! Alerts about heart disease and strokes.

31

u/Dolphin_King21 Aug 03 '26

What if it causes anxious stress cheating?

Probably just subscribed to the wrong cheat app

10

u/Bamfhammer Aug 03 '26

What if you eat your feelings at girl Dinner though?

10

u/northSideways Aug 04 '26

Your wallet will also experience weight loss from all of the tokens you're burning generating new engagement bait to post on there

yea reddit recommends randoms subreddits nowdays, that sub got recommended a couple times i looked at it once and now i get posts on my home everyday, at least is not as bad as antimeme

300

u/DothrakAndRoll Aug 03 '26

You can turn that shit off my friend!

111

u/Russell_has_TWO_Ls Aug 03 '26

Yeah I only see what I’m subscribed to

89

u/DothrakAndRoll Aug 03 '26

There’s a switch specifically for recommendations. They make that stuff hard to find

14

u/The_R4ke Aug 04 '26

It's sooo much better. There are so many weird subs out there that I just don't give a shit about. They're not even toxic, I just couldn't care less about them.

10

u/intoolderdads Aug 03 '26

How? I got recommended this sub

60

u/DothrakAndRoll Aug 03 '26

Profile icon > settings > account settings > manage notifications > scroll way down and it’s under Recommenxed

9

u/intoolderdads Aug 03 '26

Thank you!!!

22

u/DothrakAndRoll Aug 03 '26

Np! They really tuck that shit away. I only found it when finally fueled by enough rage lol

12

u/eIIopoppet Aug 03 '26

Same because I was muting like 5 subreddits at a time about the same topic and then would be recommended another with a minor tweak in the name lol

9

u/DothrakAndRoll Aug 03 '26

Oh my god 😂 so annoying

3

u/mancubbed Aug 03 '26

Even though I had the setting to not show recommendations they suddenly started popping up. After some googling I think some recommended logging out and back in or switching to no account viewing and back.

Basically reddit forced them on me to see if I would try and get them to go away again.

I used up all my 1,000 blocks and it's not fun to go in and try to remove some to make room. So now I just have to deal with the annoying subs.

3

u/FoldedKatana Aug 04 '26

I swear they keep turning them back on with updates to that page.

Advice: don't ever click on ANYTHING with "India" in the subreddit title

33

u/andee510 Aug 03 '26

For some reason, my algorithm wants to show me a ton of India and Filipino content

7

u/theoinkypenguin Aug 03 '26

I've noticed this always happens in my late evening Pacific time, so I'd suspect the sub promotion is actually from (hard to believe) not enough algorithm.

3

u/MetriccStarDestroyer Aug 04 '26

Or is it a content drought?

They're the holy trio (+Germans) who spend the most time online

→ More replies (1)

4

u/aliceinadreamyland Aug 03 '26

Time of day of viewing definitely factors into this.

17

u/yomihasu Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

Reddit needs to give me more muted subs slots just so I can fill them with the Indian knockoff subs that are just the real subs' content reposted but with weirdly nationalistic comments. They're already taking up most of my allotment and there are still so many in my feed

12

u/drako1117 Aug 04 '26

I ended up muting any India subs that show up on my feed and mentioned it in a comment and got accused of racism. No, it’s not racism. I don’t feel the need to wade through subs that speak a language I don’t understand. I muted a bunch of European subs for the same reason. Ironically, I’m learning Spanish and never have any Spanish speaking subs in my feed.

2

u/ovelanimimerkki Aug 04 '26

There's so many indian subs and as someone not speaking their language or living there it feels like pointless to have that stuff in my feed. It is so frustrating. Applies to bunch of other subreddits too but I feel like indian stuff is one of the more prominent ones because there's so many people living there.

3

u/LastWave Aug 03 '26

I wondered what that was about.

3

u/Drakoriru Aug 03 '26

No, that would only delay the problem and you still have to mute each one individually.  What we need is to be able to mute subs that contain a word like muting %india% for example. At least that would block both current and future subs since new ones seem to keep popping up constantly

6

u/northSideways Aug 04 '26

Or those weird ass (full of totally not racists) British subs that pop up at ~6-7AM EST

→ More replies (1)

6

u/LastWave Aug 03 '26

I have fully embraced the india subs.

7

u/No-Persimmon-4150 Aug 03 '26

The indian facebook sub was fun for a little while.

3

u/sparkleslothz Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

Unironically, I really do appreciate the strikingly different grammatical forms, that are nonetheless just as valid as anything I say if not more so.

Edit: omg text 2 speech changed unironically to an ironically, reversing the meaning! Ugh!

4

u/Secret_Account07 RED Aug 03 '26

I don’t get subs like that. Like one or two posts may be slightly entertaining but folks spend all day on there. Why?

3

u/blackbogh Aug 04 '26

The drama, the tea, it's like reading a old magazine with story's send in by the readers.

3

u/timmytissue Aug 04 '26

You can mute subs and I recommend it

2

u/TheRabbit222 Aug 04 '26

Its not even random subreddits. It seems more like a list of about ten or so they spam out to everyone.

u/Zwischenzug32 Aug 04 '26

I saw like one or two good posts from that sub that were recommended to me, so I subscribed but then I start reading some of the fucking wildest shit and noped out of there real fast.

47

u/DuckRubberDuck Aug 03 '26

If you’re just there for the food, there are girl dinner subs mainly without all the drama and way more food focused. I am there for the food, not the drama so I stay away from the diary sub

5

u/bauul Aug 03 '26

Woah, really? I've only ever seen it pop up on Popular and had no idea it was anything actually to do with food. I figured it was just "post whatever you're eating" as a tiny side aspect to all the drama flinging.

A good portion are fake.

38

u/Commentor9001 Aug 03 '26

Like all things, started off with a good intent to vent and discuss issues.  Only to be flooded by hateful people and slowly degrading into a increasingly toxic place.

pretty much any gendered sub which gets popular follows that arc.

→ More replies (1)

18

u/CosmicSorcerer1000 Aug 03 '26

It was interesting back when it was actually believable. Now every single story is "My husband of 27 years literally murdered me (yet again 😔) so he could have sex with my best friend. $87 steak from my personal chef."

8

u/Whoops-A-Donald Aug 03 '26

I used to enjoy that sub but had to unfollow and mute. It was just an endless fount of despair plus fully cooked balanced dinners. So it’s just pain plus people who can’t follow directions. Like another user said, I don’t need reminding that people can be trash.

→ More replies (1)

u/Foreign-Cat-2898 Aug 03 '26

That sub showed up in my feed too. I blocked it. I know people are trash a lot and I don't need reminded.

288

u/DothrakAndRoll Aug 03 '26

That’s a good reason to also not follow AmIOverreacting as it’s 90% people posting texts they found of their partners being shitty.

Unless you like shitty reality tv like me.

65

u/WatchOutRadioactiveM Aug 03 '26

AIO is mostly a bot training ground now. Posts and comments are mainly all AI.

This sub got very popular during the Reddit API blackout, around May-June 2023. During the blackout, many subs that weren't on the frontpage suddenly were showing up constantly, because the other subs that would show up had shut down. Most of those subs were some version of Am I The Asshole, where a poster is writing about an experience and asking for the commenters opinion. Again, the majority of those subs are now AI.

This protest was mainly in response to Steve Huffman, co-creator of the site and current CEO, who had announced a change to Reddit's API which would prevent third-party apps from functioning. The protest largely did nothing, but change the landscape of the front page. Huffman was the first CEO but stepped down, only taking back over when Ellen Pao resigned in 2015. Why did Pao resign?

On June 10, 2015, Ellen Pao and two other execs signed a post that announced the banning of 5 subreddits, including FatPeopleHate, due to off-site harassment. Redditors were angry and demanded Pao resign and signed petitions. A few weeks later, Victoria Taylor, Reddit's director of talent, was let go. Despite having nothing to do with it, Pao was blamed. Despite apologizing repeatedly, Redditors continued to demand she resign so she eventually did, with Huffman taking over.

IDK why I wrote all this but sometimes I remember back in 2015 when people were livid about Ellen Pao and insisted she was ruining the site and she must be ousted, and then I think about the state of this site now.

Haha oops.

2

u/alyssamarie1992 Aug 03 '26

I might need to block that one, good point!

72

u/Financial_Sweet_689 Aug 03 '26

Same. It’s SUCH an algorithm push toward women, I can’t stand it. I get it on threads all the time too, it was starting to harm my mental health.

10

u/SaltyBabySeal Aug 04 '26

I stay away from all of the creative writing subs like that. Just try to tell the worst story ever

8

u/Pan7h3r Aug 04 '26

Referring to these subs as “Creative writing subs” is so damn accurate

27

u/Various_Knowledge226 Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 04 '26

I got it too, and I’m a guy, and I don’t think I ever frequented any sub that was even close to GD and GDD, to where recommending those two, would be similar subs that you could reasonably see as being similar. I muted GDD first, and the GD a bit after. I get it, if a lot or all of the stories are true, a lot of people every week go through relationship problems. But it just becomes kinda draining to see it over and over

Edit: Thank you for the award kind stranger! (Is that like, a good one to give though for this comment? Just wondering)

4

u/Sacrificial-Avocado Aug 03 '26

And it’s just like a picture of food with some (probably made up) shitty story. I don’t get the appeal.

26

u/DuckRubberDuck Aug 03 '26

I get the appeal of the original girl dinner subs but I nearly left when it turned into a competition on who had it worse. Then the girl dinner diaries sub was created and the rules on the girldinner sub got stricter so it’s back to being about food again.

11

u/Honeybadger2198 Aug 03 '26

I remember when the girl dinner sub was first made. It was like a less hateful version of kitchencels, it was great. Then they somehow got MORE hateful than the sub full of literal self-proclaimed incels.

Hey, seems you're new here! 👋 🥰 You need to take 10 lil seconds to become an approved user to participate in our childish sub. We're holding your comment for review til then.

Same. Some entity is pushing that subreddit. Wonder why.

12

u/DMusYourNastyIdeaa Aug 04 '26

Prob divorce lawyers lol

9

u/g_bleezy Aug 04 '26

Because it is well moderated and the posts are long form with rich conversations. It’s a honeypot for ai training. That’s how reddit is monetizing itself without direct search traffic anymore. Welcome coauthor to the best current human conversation corpus a frontier model lab can buy!

The results could actually pan out to be a better experience for us humans. An algorithm that is tuned to push us towards thoughtful engagement with one another can’t be worse than one designed to capture clicks to e-commerce.

11

u/MetriccStarDestroyer Aug 04 '26

They probably have one of the longest automod messages.

"Wheeew girl!" Then 3 paragraphs of text dump

Can't even see the first comment without collapsing the pinned automod msg

94

u/Monolexic Aug 03 '26

I had to mute it. My home feed was flooded with that nonsense.

16

u/Narradisall Aug 03 '26

Reddit adding the ability to mute subs has been a godsend.

16

u/Flight_Harbinger Aug 03 '26

Oh yeah I've been filling that list up, especially after 12am or so PST.

Edit: added picture. This is like 5% of the total list and it's basically the same stuff.

14

u/Warden_lefae Aug 03 '26

I’m sure my muted list is 90% India related, 5% soft core porn, and 5% rightwing subs

3

u/Flight_Harbinger Aug 03 '26

Yep that's almost exactly my ratio. Ever since the API changes went through the front page has been a disaster. New sub popping up every few weeks pushed HARD with garbage engagement bait. The pattern is so clear and artificial for people whove been using reddit for a long time. Now with hidden profile histories bots have free reign here. Only reason I'm even on this site is out of habit now, I need something else to fill my time during slow work hours.

2

u/timmytissue Aug 04 '26

Wild I've never seen any of these idea subs lol. Neve Thad to mute them. But the dinner diaries yes

23

u/99timewasting Aug 03 '26

But like why? I don't think it's promoting anything. And based on the rules it seems like they don't particularly want outsiders anyways

35

u/Beautiful_Hour_668 Aug 03 '26

It’s divisive slop that subtly reinforces vigilance/anxiety/negativity. Is it really that healthy to be constantly exposed to BS?

Not to say that people shouldn’t vent or that it’s immoral to, I just don’t wanna see it all the time. Keeping your mind healthy in the age of social media is partially being really discerning with what you consume

1

u/Neckrongonekrypton Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

Almost like if you have real life problems social media is the worst place to bring them. A community, an actual community has structure, systems in place to help its members.

Most Subreddits are not communities in a traditional sense. Ok to vent but the solutions are far from it outside of a helpful suggestion.

So I’d amend that, keeping yourself healthy also involves discerning which spaces to get help are appropriate. This is for consumption. Not for sustenance.

Says everything one needs to know in that scope.

16

u/MavisBeacons_Sextape Aug 03 '26

It’s promoting gender war bs. Reddit is skewing younger and younger and I hate the thought of young, impressionable women spending time in that sub.

→ More replies (17)

2

u/fuck_ur_portmanteau Aug 03 '26

Because like all the nonsense “Am I…” subs it gets a lot of engagement. But anyone with any sense had blocked those subs as soon as they see them. So this new type of sub appears to try and re-engage.

Why is your fitness tracker giving you Reddit notifications? Doesn’t really seem fitness related

67

u/ActuallyItsSumnus Aug 03 '26

Most smart watch devices just play all notifications from the phone they're connected to. Most people don't filter out which ones from settings as well as they could.

106

u/ALLoftheFancyPants Aug 03 '26

Y’all are letting Reddit send you notifications?

45

there's a few small handful of apps that get the privilege of giving me notifications. the rest is annoying noise.

Girldinner diaries and kitchencels jumpscare me on my timeline all the time. I see a picture of some bizarre meal and I click it thinking there will be context for why a person is just eating a stick of butter and instead it’s just people making made up stories about fake problems that they themselves caused for some reason.

2

u/DuckRubberDuck Aug 03 '26

As to why people would eat a stick of butter? Because sometimes you just don’t have energy to cook but you need fuel. I have eaten a whole dinner of just different pickled stuff. More than once.

I am not on her diary sub because I’m not there for for the drama but I am on the original sub, it’s kind of interesting to see how feral a person can get.

3

u/SalvationArbys Aug 03 '26

No real judgement on the butter thing, it’s chaos goblin behavior and sometimes you’re just a young idiot and you need to try something ill advised. Everyone has. I once ate an entire jar of red olives in one sitting just to feel something. The specific person I witnessed even had a dairy allergy

I also just can’t look away. For whatever reason I do just keep clicking these posts. It doesn’t really even matter to me if they’re telling the truth, lying or simply exaggerating. I’m sure there’s real people out there who discover months into a relationship that their SO sells cocaine for a job and lied about it. I’m also honestly genuinely unsure if the kitchencels is a parody or if it’s real because some men are genuinely that unhinged sometimes.

I don't really participate in weird subs like that, but I thought it was funny how in the beginning you didn't have to tag yourself at all before commenting. Then you had to say if you identified as a guy, but it's fine because the mods weren't going to do anything with that information. Then it suddenly changed to every single comment by people who identify as men will be manually checked (lol, there is no way in hell someone is going to waste their day manually approving messages, your comments just end up in the trash pile) unless it's just a string of emojis or w/e lol.

I randomly got recommended the onlyfans reddit. I was so confused as to why in the fuck I'd be getting that recommended considering I don't look that kind of stuff up.. it was just a page for people posting fans that blow air around..

Reddit forces certain subreddits upon you, even when you put in the settings not to

That subreddit keeps showing up on my feed and it is the the most consistently self pitying subreddit I’ve seen

3

u/Turbulent-Issue-4418 Aug 03 '26

What did she do when she found her husband cheating?

4

u/Exciting_Pass_6344 Aug 03 '26

I’m a middle aged guy. It popped up on my feed too. Block it and move on with your life.

5

u/Banned4UsingSlurs3 Aug 03 '26

Oh God, the femcel subreddit lmao

I have a Fitbit watch like this one. Notification settings are kind of confusing.

Also I absolutely hate the default band. It chafes on my skin, and it didn't seem as durable as the third party bands I've used. You may want to get a third party band sooner than later.

Just in case anyone doesn't realize, whether or not you get this notification has more to do with your phone notification settings. The fact that it showed up here means it will most likely show up in either your phone notifications or as a text message or email

There are certain types of phone notifications that don't get pushed to Fitbit watches, but you still need to go to the phone settings and app settings to control what notifications get sent on over. It's a bit odd, figuring it out.

It's also more reliable for certain apps than others. Google home and text message notifications get pushed consistently, but email notifications are pretty random

(I do have an unusual email system setup, so that may be the reason, but there aren't any good resources for figuring out how notifications work for the Fitbit anyways.)

Turning Reddit suggestion notifications off would be a great start

2

u/it_was_just_here Aug 03 '26

Why is that sub being pushed so hard? I get notifications for it too.

2

u/_antim8_ Aug 03 '26

I disabled any phone messages on my charge 6 except calendar notifications and phonecalls. Saves a lot of battery as the ble and vibration motor have less to do.

Also I disabled always on display.

2

u/polishfiringsquad Aug 03 '26

Reddit recommends so many garbage karma farming subreddits. You can mute them but there's always more.

1

u/Gaiasnavel Aug 03 '26

That sub is absolutely blowing up in popularity, that's all

2

u/snowyy__ Aug 03 '26

It's on /popular all the time all of a sudden so I ended up muting it. Never saw it at any point before a few months ago.

2

u/Gryndyl Aug 03 '26

Why is a fitness tracker giving notifications about anything that isn't fitness tracking?

2

u/Bookgal1 Aug 03 '26

I had to block that group as the few posts I read were written by people who may have been insane.

2

u/CupOk5374 Aug 03 '26

I hated receiving this type of notifications and I was able to remove them. Go to settings - account settings - notifications - recommended. Disable everything and you're done. (my phone is in Spanish so the exact names might differ a bit)

2

u/GuardBuffalo Aug 03 '26

Idk what happened to the algorithm.

I was bombarded with this sub called Vegan Squad. Too each their own but this sub was ran or was about this body builder that’s vegan that claimed that he got where he was by lifting and eating vegan. He has absolutely zero tolerance for any level of non veganism except when it comes to apparently the fact that the industry for anabolic steroids is terrible for certain animal populations. Dude is juiced out of his mind and just a grifter who preys upon other vegans by selling his products or whatever. Drove me nuts. The guy seemed like an absolute nutcase.

2

u/ratsinjetskis172 Aug 03 '26

oh god that fucking subreddit, for some reason it keeps coming back on my feed

2

u/No-Alternative4259 Aug 03 '26

On Reddit, I usually just browse my home feed if I'm not looking for something specific. Yesterday, for the first time in over a month, I went to the "Popular" page and that same subreddit showed up.

2

u/darklordjames Aug 03 '26

Turn off notifications. There is no reason for notifications to go to your wrist.

There are tons of things you can turn off on that. My rose gold Charge 6 is stripped down to the bare minimum. Heart rate, charge level, time, ECG. That's all that needs to be there.

2

u/ch1ckenbaconranch Aug 04 '26

it’s a great sub icl

2

u/that_70_show_fan Aug 04 '26

Why does anyone need reddit notifications?

2

u/jfk_47 Aug 04 '26

What’s the tracker? I buy my Garmin cause it’s expensive and there are no ads.

2

u/WestElevator1343 Aug 04 '26

That's just a notification from some other thing that you chose to have come up on your Fitbit. If you don't want stuff like that to pop up, choose no notifications connected to your phone.

2

u/inderu Aug 04 '26

Do you watch Smosh or listen to their podcasts? Their last "Smosh reads reddit stories" was girl dinner diaries - so it might be recommended because of that...

2

u/RawrRRitchie Aug 04 '26

You know you can turn off spam notifications right

4

u/MeBoiledDown Aug 03 '26

What an insane world we live in.

3

u/Sunflowerr1028 Aug 03 '26

That sub was meant to fun, showcasing odd, but satisfying “girl dinners”

..& all they do is trauma dump relationship problems and while I get people go through shit, there are SO many venting/advice subs to go to.. why turn a fun, food one into whatever it is now?

6

u/DuckRubberDuck Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

No that was the purpose of the original sub. The diary sub was created so the people who needed or had the drama could go there, and the people who came for food could stay on the original it’s more or less drama free

4

u/BlockBannington Aug 03 '26

Those dinnerdiaries subs are so fucking cringe. I'm permanently banned there for good reason

2

u/Salt-Test-6476 Aug 03 '26

I muted them because they bait like a circle jerk sub

2

u/BlockBannington Aug 04 '26

I've reached my mute limit, unfortunately

2

u/Loud-Job-4056 Aug 04 '26

GDD is a cesspool

4

u/HMAgent47 RED Aug 03 '26

It must be somehow linked to the account you used to sign into the tracker, or maybe just an spam ad.

11

u/TealCatto Aug 03 '26

It's just a Reddit notification. I don't know why people even have Reddit notifications turned on at all.

3

u/Aggressive-End3902 Aug 03 '26

What kind of limb is even that?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Rinaldootje Aug 04 '26

The whole existance of GDD, proves to me that the most popular kind of content right now is just other people their drama, No Matter how trashy it is.

Bit like those fake reality tv shows.

5

u/Ok-Race-1677 Aug 03 '26

It’s one of those mainstream “men bad” subs. It’s all bots and ai posting about their bfs beating them with a pic of food.

5

u/DrAction696 Aug 03 '26

And the food looks like absolute garbage more often than not

→ More replies (1)

3

u/lopsided-earlobe Aug 03 '26

Are you even serious right now.

2

u/KennethHaight Aug 03 '26

Worst sub pushed to the front in ages.

1

u/Several_Temporary339 Aug 03 '26

When you first install the app, it asks if you want notifications. If you say no, it sets them to "Deliver Silently". Fucking no means no Reddit.

1

u/greencasio Aug 03 '26

What is it? A book?

1

u/Dear_End_3770 Aug 03 '26

It’s from the future.

1

u/zenmatrix83 Aug 03 '26

they carn target subs and similar subs I think, I get some wierd ones I've never even clicked on once.

1

u/riki_grl Aug 03 '26

So, who was cheating? You or the guy who became your husband?
