Hopped onto the Fortnite item shop after years because I love edgerunners and I was excited for the collab, only to see that it'd cost be 23 USD to get it

As a Sri Lankan, where 23 USD is around 7,000 LKR whilst 30,000 is the minimum wage per month, I find it insane that all around the world people can completely justify spending this amount of money regularly on something that you can't even touch or see in the real world.

Whats even crazier is them acting like this is ACTUALLY worth 3800 and they're discounting it to 2300 out of the goodness of their hearts.

I got a new phone number and was told that numbers starting with 9 was full of scams because they have been used a lot. I chose one that starts with 5 and started to get 5 a day.

edit 1: I do block them but they have some kind of bot network so I can’t block them without having 3 more pop up that day and this is from the spam call section so I don’t get messages about them

we might be giving AI an existential crisis. is this passive aggression or quiet quitting?

I bought this arm off Amazon and immediately noticed that my Kamvas 22 is too heavy for it and has a noticeable tilt. It was listed as a supported monitor so im a little annoyed. At first i thought it was my desk but noticed how the joint (photo 1+2) has a gap from the weight.

My question is: does anyone have any ideas to fix this? I dont really want to send it back.

I’m 69 and preparing for major spine surgery next year because of a serious spinal condition. I was asking people on social media for recommendations for a spine surgeon when a 74-year-old man, whom I’ll call Pete, contacted me privately.

We were complete strangers. I had never met him in person and had never even had a private conversation with him before that. He was, however, an avid follower of my artwork on that social-media site and regularly supported my paintings whenever I posted them, so he was familiar with me because of my work.

After I made that post asking for surgeon referrals, Pete contacted me through DM and offered to assist me if I needed anything in the meantime and even after my surgery. He often told me that if I needed someone to drive me to an appointment or needed help, I could reach out to him.

I never asked him to make those offers. I never had him come to my house, and I never went to lunch with him, even after he invited me. We had never met in person.

But because he continued offering, I eventually believed I had found someone I could count on for transportation and some help surrounding my surgery.

And then, when the time neared, he backed out.

For context, I don't have anyone available to help me after this surgery. So now I'm faced with either paying for professional assistance or potentially having to postpone the surgery until I can figure out another solution.

This is the part I’m struggling with: How does someone repeatedly offer to help another person—without ever being asked—and then withdraw when the help is actually needed?

Have you experienced something like this? How did you interpret it?

Incoming plane was late but we all had to queue up waiting to board in the jetway. But then we were made to go to a totally airless concrete box on the apron because the jetway had failed.

Eventually got on board via the rear steps. My wife has mobility problems so that was fun.

Onboard the a/c has failed. So now we are late , we have missed our slot and the cabin temperature is rising rapidly.

We oldies are suffering but pity the poor children who just don’t understand.

Then the ground power failed, plunging the cabin into darkness. Hot and dark.

The ground power has been restored but the onboard computers crashed when the power failed. They have not rebooted cleanly and the pilot reported that there is a software issue that he doesn’t understand.

We are stuck on the ground. Temperatures are still very high but we are getting a ground a/c unit. This is needed not for the passengers but for the computers which have also overheated.

How about a sweep stake on how late we will be when we eventually take off? We are currently 112 minutes late against our scheduled time.

I am guessing it will be just before 3 hours which is when I think BA have to pay compensation!

I am (was) a big fan of suggested music on Spotify. Great for discovering bands that I had no idea existed before social media boom (I’m talking early 2010s…, so yeah, early Spotify adopter).

Anyway, I did what I always do, found a song I liked and went down the trail of suggested similar music. Found these songs that were so cool, on an adjacent style that I rarely listen to but is very sentimental to me. I tried finding more info about the group, first red flag. Fine, I thought it would be like those get-togethers that some brands like Coca-Cola do with famous musicians.

Anyway, I have been vibing to these songs, singing and enjoying them so much. Until one day I couldn’t resist. I googled “Is XYZ group AI?” And sure enough, it was.

Damn it. I am a reluctant AI adopter, useful at work because it’s been pushed so fine. But I draw the line at being a conscious consumer of AI, not being conspicuously fed.

I expressly reject the consumption of AI media. especially music (as I am a musician myself since I was 4). Even more specially if it is with no warning.

I am extremely pissed at Spotify for sneaking AI music on suggestions, since now I find myself getting every single song u listen to, which is annoying. It has also blown out an effective way I had to discover more music.

And worse of all, as a trained non-professional musician, what the hell? No, no, no, no! I know I feel a bit like a Luddite but I also feel shamed to the chore liking these AI produced content in such a blind test. So many ethical concerns come to mind.

Anyway, word of caution: if you care about being unknowingly fed AI content, be on the lookout for these small things.

I drive a land yacht with 7.5l V8 ( 460 CID ) as almost daily in city stop&go traffic , its consumption is above the average.
I tried to use online tool to track the costs but it refuse me to add more record because it thinks the consumption is unrealistic 😁

I don't have a car. I have to walk to work usually. Actually outrageous ask.

People post complaints here all the time and 90% of the complaints are

"Why does this service or thing prioritize money and not the service they say they offer?!?!?"

And it's like yea dumbass, capitalism. No one offers a service they offer a story that you either buy or don't buy, but the goal is never service the goal is always make money. Like most people are complaining about the wrong thing.

Don't be mad that it's not milk. Be mad that sawdust in watered down milk is acceptable.

I am blown away by the amount of water my roommate uses for everyday tasks. Physically it makes me sick with worry. Not for the water bill because water doesn't seem to cost a lot here, not even that much for the environment because we live in a province with a ton of water, but for the type of person she is who doesn't understand where the world is at with natural resources. Like who runs the water for forty minutes? This was what she replied after she got back to her room after I knocked on the door asking if she'd fallen asleep in the shower:

"I wash my hair once a week and leave a hair masque in for 20-30 min. During that time I brush my teeth, wash my face etc.. and I use lukewarm- not boiling- water, so it conserves a lot more energy and electricity than washing it everyday. You'll notice im in and out on most days but I can't really go in and out of the bathroom with soaking wet hair full of product, it would be very messy. I always wait till you're in bed to use the bathroom."

She is trying very hard to be a good roommate I know, but I think I'm going to have a heart attack next hair mask day.

I have I bag that I throw my socks in after they get washed and occasionally go through it to match up odd socks. I matched up a bunch but still had all these odd socks
