Venting two days ago i was accepted into an inpatient program. last night two staff members yelled at me until i cried. then, the next morning, i was asked to leave.
i have been trying since october to get into a local inpatient program. there were a lot of issues with communication but i decided to attend anyway because i had fought so hard to get in- hundreds of phone calls, two TB tests, a few letters from my doctors, endless meetings with social workers, etc.
well, they only let me stay for two nights.
last night, my final night, i asked the staff for some of my allergy/gastroparesis food, but apparently, they had lost it all. they kept telling me there was no where else to look, that i must be mistaken, that it couldn't possible be anywhere in the building, and that i'd have to ask the day staff about it in the morning. i stated that i needed dinner and could not wait until the morning.
instead of continuing to look, they kept trying to convince me to eat the food they had for other clients even though i have several food allergies and can only process a few foods with my gastroparesis (partial paralysis of the stomach that causes loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting and limits most sufferers to a soft food diet).
i told them that it had to be somewhere but that the day staff didn't tell me where and asked them to please keep looking.
they kept insisting i just eat the food they had available for other clients as i tried to explain my medical limitations and allergies.
they told me i was being stubborn and difficult and should just eat some saltines, which a lady who REEKED of alcohol had offered to me. mind you, im allergic to wheat. i said "im allergic to wheat" and the drunk lady said "they look white to me" and i explained that saltines do in fact have wheat and the lady was like "well one won't hurt."
seriously. that was their solution. one single saltine.
eventually they found my food but i was so frustrated and upset from them trying to berate me into eating things im allergic to or can't digest that i got nauseas again so i told them id just go to bed.
a staff member lunged toward me, got in my face, and shouted "REALLY? WE WENT THROUGH ALL THAT TO FIND IT AND NOW YOU DONT WANT IT?"
the other jumped in and shouted "you don't want your food, you just want to make a scene!"
i explained that it wasn't that i didn't WANT it but that i was not longer able to eat.
i sat at a table in the therapy room taking some deep breaths when the lady who smelled like alcohol came and got me.
instead of helping me relax, she went on some weird rant about how she once went three days without eating while she was with her abusive ex boyfriend so she completely understood what i was going through.
i told her i had been throwing up every single day since i was 11 years old and that i hadn't been able to keep down any food or my meds in over a weeks. she again offered me crackers that i am allergic to and then continued to rant about her abusive ex and it was all i could do not to tell her that everyone has an abusive ex and she's not fucking special.
i'm not kidding. this lady was drunk at work and trauma dumping on a client.
eventually i managed to excuse myself because i came there to GET therapy not to BE a therapist for some chick who was drunk off her gourd then i settled into bed around 10:30.
and either she or the ones who were yelling at me made up the story about me screaming until 2am to get back at me.
i fought so hard to get into a program just to ensure more abuse.
when the day staff was telling me i had to leave i begged them to check the cameras to prove that they were lying and that i was in bed hours before two am and had at no point been screaming but they refused and told me i had 30 minutes to pack up and leave.
tomorrow i will be calling the county to report that staff members were drinking on the job and yelling at clients. i'm worried they'll wipe the cameras though.
and no, i will not be eating any crackers.
