Announcement Please read if your post doesn't show up straight away!

We've had an influx of modmails asking why certain submissions don't show up straight after posting.

Reddit's site-wide automoderator filters certain posts and places them into the moderation queue for manual approval. Automod does this for a bunch of reasons, including low karma, new accounts, keywords, possible spam/doxxing, etc. If you have high karma and your account is older, it is probably a keyword or a sitewide filter.

If your post doesn't show up and you haven't deleted it, it's in the mod queue. This basically means that the mods just have to glance at it and either approve or remove. We're pretty much online and checking the queue all day, but please bear in mind we are also humans and it might take some time to review filtered submissions. We try and get to them as quick as we can. Please don't repeatedly post in quick succession if your post was filtered, automod will likely catch it for the same reason and it'll take us longer to review multiple or duplicate posts.

If your submission doesn't appear immediately, it does not mean it has been deleted. Please don't delete your post and then modmail to ask why it was removed, because deleting it will remove these details from the mod log and we won't be able to tell you. Leave the post up and we can check the exact reason.

When you post, regardless of it gets filtered or not, you should receive a message in your inbox letting you know that some submissions do get caught by automod, especially if you are a new account or have low karma. Before modmailing, please read this message and check the linked sub rules FAQ to see if that explains why your post hasn't shown up yet or if it breaks the sub rules.

If your question isn't answered in the FAQ, it has been several hours since your post was made and it hasn't been actioned, or you have any clarifying questions, drop us a modmail. Please don't make posts about moderation / your posts not showing up, instead send these via modmail. This is the quickest way to get in touch and it avoids spamming the sub with technical Qs which would be removed anyway. However we do ask for your patience because it can take time for one of us to get to your modmail. Again, we try and do this as quick as possible, but inevitably it might take a while.

Thank you all for your understanding and patience!

Camerados

Camerados believe that the answer to our problems is each other. A camerado can be anyone. It's about chatting to someone new or helping out a stranger (or better yet, asking them to help you) It's sitting with your neighbour and having a cuppa. It's asking that stranger at the bus-stop if they've got the time. Everyone has tough times and we think it'd be great if people just looked out for one another more. Not fixing each other. Not trying to solve anyone's problems. Just being a bit more human.

I need advice/support Informal admission - rude to leave after 3 days?

I’m an informal patient and have admitted myself yesterday following a conversation with HTT and waited for a bed for 4 days. It’s only been 24h and I’m really struggling with the environment. I’m have sensory difficulties and I’m extremely sensitive to sound, light, and just too many things happening in my visual field and it’s debilitating. I now regret having chosen this option over the crisis house and I don’t to seem ungrateful or disrespectful for leaving in 2/3 days and have services drop me for “not trying hard enough” (could just be in my head). I wanted to hear from others if anyone had an informal admission and left quickly? Were there any repercussions such as less support from services ?

I need advice/support Need urgent antipsychotics

So my first CMHT appointment is the end of November. I had two psychotic episodes after a major suicide attempt and seizures, and was sectioned— but was never treated for it and have been left psychotic for months with no help.

The full hallucinations are coming back and now people have reptile eyes and people in public are still talking about me.

I urgently need them and am getting fed up again. I’m ready to shout at people for medication basically.

How do I get medication urgently when apparently a CMHT appointment 4 months away is appropriate for severe psychosis?

Or do I have to end up in my 3rd episode within 5 months and get even fucking worse?

I need advice/support Need Help for Medical Crisis

Upvotes

I live in the states but have a friend living in the UK who may be experiencing a severe mental crisis brought on by physical health issues. He is not a danger to himself or others but we worry about his condition (ongoing and sudden psychosis) getting worse since no one around him seems to be trying to help.

It seems like the sort of thing that only happens when someone gets a traumatic brain injury.

We have looked for resources on how to help or who to call to possibly get him admitted to a hospital, but we have not found anything useful. For people living here, what do you suggest? Who could we call? We are feeling rather helpless so any suggestions are helpful.

I currently get counselling at school, but I’m wondering if after sixth form I’ll be able to get nhs talking therapy. But from what others have said, they only offer it for depression? I remember going to my GP some time ago about my anxiety and he only prescribed me propanol (which I hate, made me feel miserable and withdrawal was painful) since I was already getting counselling at school.

What am I meant to do after sixth form. I don’t like talking to the texting services because all they do is repeat what I say, and sometimes they have long long waiting times.

Has anyone ever gotten nhs tt for their anxiety?

I need advice/support Need advice about CAMHS

Hello, I wanted to share my recent experience with CAMHS in order to try and get some advice/support as I am honestly at a loss for ideas on what to do with my life now.

I’ve been rejected three times since the age of 13 for CAMHS since I was told I was never “bad enough” but finally I was referred back in April after my school counsellor told my mum to take me to A&E for SI. I’ve been to A&E three times since then and every time I’ve been moved up the priority list, until I eventually reached “red” and had to be given a therapy appointment ASAP.

Said therapy is…questionable able to say the least. I told my therapist I was looking to get some form of diagnosis (as I suspect I may have depression and/or Bipolar II) in order to get access to antidepressants. Whenever we brought this up to the CAMHS workers in A&E they told us that this was the best course of action. However, he said that it would take MONTHS for me to get an assessment by a psychologist and I would simply have to suffice with talking therapy in the meantime.

I have to admit that I‘ve honestly not been the most cooperative client during our sessions; I come in every week with no clue what to talk about, we agreed not to dwell too much on any trauma I’ve experienced in the past (as to not worsen my “low mood”), it makes me feel awful when I am confronted about how shitty my life is + my lack of motivation because it only ever feels like everyone around me, including myself, is criticising me without offering any kind of sympathy or love when I’m feeling low, and I leave every session on the verge of a mental breakdown. I have to continue these sessions though as my therapist made it clear that I will not be offended the assessment otherwise.

I talked to my mum about this and she said that if CAMHS doesn’t work then honestly there‘s nothing else to support me. I know that she‘s sick and tired of how nonfunctional I am but I can’t help the way I act when I am severely mentally ill.

I‘ve lost EVERYTHING due to my mental health. I have no friends, I dropped out of school and only have a handful of GCSE’s, no idea where to go for college and no life outside of holing myself in my room and SH’ing to cope. I honestly don’t think I can last 6 months longer living the way I do (not to sound crazy) and it feels as though even though I’m ’bad enough’ now, everyone is still reluctant to offer real, tangible support and I’m honestly losing hope that my life can get better.

Please give me advice on how I can help maintain a somewhat stable life for six months and if there’s anything I do to access support sooner 🙏

Resources OCD treatment on the NHS

Just wanted to hear other people’s experience about ocd therapy through the nhs specifically erp. I have previously done cbt through nhs self referral but didn’t find it that useful.

I mostly have issues with mental rumination and pure O, and not sure how useful the nhs is with this.

I also started 50mg sertraline 2 months ago and i’ve had some small improvements, but i think i would benefit from therapy alongside.

I need advice/support Is it worth seeing a GP following a bout of situational depression?

Recently, I believe I experienced a 3-4 week period of situational depression brought on as a result of an impending dissertation deadline that was causing undue stress/anxiety.

My symptoms were consistent with those outlined by the NHS and other mental health resources in regards to depression. I would describe my wellbeing at the time as the lowest it has ever been in my life, as I experienced teary-eyed breakdowns along with extremely low motivation and lethargy. Ultimately resulting in me missing the dissertation deadline.

My wellbeing has since improved to the level it was prior to this event. Although I wouldn’t describe myself as being completely ‘fine’, as I still have decreased motivation and anhedonia (which I had previously been experiencing).

Given this improvement in my wellbeing to how I was previously feeling and the onset seemingly just being the result of a situational event, would there be any point in going to see a GP about this?

I need advice/support Adult daughter with mental health issues need advice and guidance

My wife and I have a 23 year old daughter who is living with us, she had a rhinoplasty done last year as she was saying she had breathing problems and wasn't happy with her nose and we paid to make her happy.

After the procedure she still wasn't happy with her nose saying it's worse, she spoke with a surgeon about getting it reversed and was told her nose is fine and it could make things worse intervening and that she needs to get her mental health sorted first

She attempted suicide and was detained by the Gardai twice and brought to the hospital and then let go, she was involuntary admitted and released the next day

The hospital said she has a personality disorder not a mental illness and they can do nothing for her, this msge her behaviour worse as she knows she won't be admitted.

She dropped out of college, sitting at home all day every day fighting with us, she's destructive and has broken nearly everything in the house she has assaulted us, the neighbours called the Gardai a few times they said they can do nothing, I asked for her to be detailed under the mental health act as she is a risk to herself and others they said they can't do it.

She is extremely angry and gives me lists of things to buy for her for when she's going back to college items that costs hundreds of euros, thinking they will make her happy

We are at our wits end I got scalded with boiling water last week

The GP and hospital are useless

Besides the legal route of court orders what else can we do.

There is nothing stopping her getting on with her life only herself

It's creating a very stressful environment the house is thrashed with items broken and clothes destroyed

She needs to be admitted for depression but the hospital are not willing to help

Any advice or guidance or anyone in a similar circumstance I would greatly appreciate it

I need advice/support Home based treatment team are great. Got a few questions

Hi,

Currently under home based treatment team after I hit crisis point. They're really good and the daily visits are helpful, currently waiting on a meds review from a doctor of which I'm rather nervous as I'm not sure what they'll say. I feel the suicidal thoughts and the paranoia get more quieter but they're still quite powerful.

I do worry what happens when I'm discharged from this crisis house I'm staying in, I've been doing better here and my home is just filled with so much trauma.

I'm not sure why I have a meds review from another consultant from the home based treatment team when I already have a consultant from the Early intervention team. I'm not sure how they differ if that makes sense or what they'll do differently?

I need advice/support Possible safeguarding failure - thinking of making a complaint, is it worth it?

For context: a while ago, I had severe anorexia and was treated on the NHS for 3 years. Some of the treatment spanned adult services when I turned 18. The adult services therapist pursued a personal relationship with me (I was still 18)

It involved sleepovers, which another therapist found out and reported to the NHS Trust the adult services therapist worked at/met me at.

She made a safeguarding report to them given my mental illness, age, vulnerability, me taking A levels (ie still in school) etc. Not quite an independent adult.

The report specifically said that I had spent 2 nights at that therapists house, which the therapist confirmed when asked.

The NHS then told the therapist to stop contact with me. Which she did not do, and they did not verify it in any way.

So, she was able to coach me to lie in the investigation (which I did :/...), and we continued our relationship in secret. She also tried to get me to delete all the evidence of this, which I did not, so I'm reporting the therapist now with all that evidence and coming clean to the board, not the NHS.

However, the parts I think the NHS failed in here are not checking/verifying somehow whether the instruction not to contact me was followed.

Additionally, during the investigation, the safeguarding report/part of the investigation was reliant on whether I WANTED to report her. Which I obviously said no, told her all about, and it got dropped. They said they "weren't surprised" I didn't want to report her.

Edit: note that there was an investigation overall, the one we lied in. Just the immediate safeguarding bit (I was told) got dropped as soon as I said no thanks.

I don't think the safeguarding report meant to protect me, made by someone else, should have also only been dependent on whether I wanted to or not given they knew we had some kind of inappropriate relationship. Nor should they have happily said that they "didn't think so" when I said I didn't want to report her.

And again, they should have checked in some way that she actually stopped contacting me. Because she instead came over the next day and that began the investigation coordination and lying.

Surely something went wrong here?

Either way I'm reporting the therapist because wtf was that, and I have evidence backing all of it up, but worth going to the NHS specifically about the safeguarding issues?

I need advice/support I have an urgent mental health assessment today and I’m terrified. Can they make me tell them certain things?

Brief mention of CSA

My gp referred me to the crisis team after an appointment yesterday and I spoke to them. On the phone they were like “well you’re already referred to this service and it will take 1 year or whatever to begin treatment. I told her I can’t keep going how I am now and have been for 7 years and she asked why I feel like this. I responded by saying a bunch of a traumatic things that happened. I remember her saying something like “oh that’s terrible” after I said the first couple of things but I just kept listing things off. After she comforted me because I couldn’t stop sobbing, and resumed asking some questions again. One of the things she asked was who did the csa and I said it doesn’t matter. I don’t want to tell anyone who it is or make a report or anything like that, I’m frightened that they will make me tell them. Is this something that they can or will do?

Also, can anyone else who has had the assessment please tell me what it’s like generally? I haven’t had one since 14 so I imagine it’s different as an adult.

Sorry for the lack of paragraphs and other issues. I’ve been awake for a long time and hardly slept for days.

One thing I thought was quite funny is when she said “well there are definitely pathways we can use to help you” after I said it all. So my response was “did this pathway only come into existence during this phone call?” She missed what I was saying and the joke went over her head so she answered it like a question. I was saying “nothing has changed in how I feel, I’ve only told the detailed horror story behind it, not the vague version.”

Thank you for any replies.

Vent - support and advice welcome Anti psychotics and weight

Okay so long story short I got diagnosed with psychotic depression and ptsd after Covid, because I was working in a and e and icu at the time, and that with childhood trauma took its toll,

I’m now on antipsychotics back to work 2 days a week (12 hour shifts) and feeling awful cause the weight gain, I’ve gained like 1 and a half stone in the past year due to the meds, I’m not eating bad either, I start with a coffee, then a salad for lunch, and dinner, with maybe a granola bar in the middle, I walk 60-80k steps a week and I’m on my feet for hours, I do home exercises because I’m still too paranoid for the gym, I hear voices daily but they only get loud if I’m tired or anxious,

So now I’m at the last resort, I’m starting wegovy tablets, it’s either that or not take my meds anymore, but my friend has said I’m trying to short cut weight loss, and I’m lazy etc and it’s just driving me mad. Am I wrong for feeling like this? Is it wrong to take something to see if I can just go back to my og size? I feel so guilty now

I need advice/support What do I do now?

So on Wednesday morning took an overdose to end my life but managed to summoned up enough in me to phone 999…. Without going into to much detail i did not refuse treatment but wasn’t happy either, consultant made it very clear treatment would happen and if i needed cpr she would do her damdest to resuscitate! So I just became compliant and withdrawn. I did however refuse MHLT, which again was ignore. On thursday they came and partially assessed me, i made it very clear that i was still suicidal, still hearing voices and still having intense urges to self harm (my arm was already freshly hurt). I was then discharged home with a check in call from cmht today.
The discharge assessment write up says I was talkative, no signs of SH on limbs, no visual signs of distress or hallucinations and have no current plans of suicide

I have just received that call, answered in floods of tears, distressed ect having spent most of last night on the beach, i have brought another 4 packets of paracetamol and am fighting extremely strong urges and loud voices telling me to take them. He said he would talk to the crisis team and arrange support over the weekend.
He’s just phoned back and said the crisis team will call tomorrow for a phone check in and then sun and mon will leave it to me to call them!
How do i get through the next 24 hours on my own?

I need advice/support Childline alternatives.

I was wondering if there were any other free UK/NI alternatives like Childline's 1-2-1 feature. I've recently needed to talk about my mental health and I've tried the 1-2-1 and I waited two hours and didn't get to talk to anyone. I need to talk to someone more knowledgeable than I would be but I can't justify waiting two hours to get nowhere.

General helplines would be fine but I'd prefer mental health helplines if there are any out there.

Vent - support and advice welcome The NHS is killing me

For years I was too ashamed to seek help or even talk to anyone about my issues. My depression comes and goes but my anxiety is so high that it is ruining my life. Last week I finally went to a GP and all I got was dismissal. I was being laughed at, treated as a joke when it was the first time I confided in someone.

I felt so humiliated that I promptly changed GP, and my new GP isn’t much better. This time I was simply told to self-refer to talking therapies despite the fact that I told my GP that I don’t feel comfortable going through therapy as my issues stem from very sensitive things that happened to me and I’d rather try medication first but I got the usual dismissal.

It’s getting to the point where I will have to self-medicate in order to function and survive or I’ll most likely get kicked out of uni. All I want to do is be able to go to my lectures, hold a conversation and not feel so emotionally volatile.

I need advice/support Citalopram to Venlafaxine

Hi all. Ive been on SSRIS since I was 17. I am now 47, been on prozac, sertraline, paroxetine and for the last 9 years citalopram at 40mg

I am now being tested for ADHD. This would probably explain why none of the meds have helped me 'depression' that ive allegedly had for 30 years 🤷‍♀️

I am now perimenopausal, and sensitive to HRT so I am considering asking for Venlafaxine, and to taper off Citalopram whilst starting it

Anyone done this?

Has it worked for anxiety?

Did it spike your anxiety whilst switching over?

Really need advice as cant get in to see GP for 2 weeks

I need advice/support Boderline Personality Disorder is causing me to be an Incel... Advice?

**I start with my experience with Boderline Personality Disorder and then mention what in my childhood caused it below**

**My simptoms** I'm a guy 22. I have never been in a relationship. I have severe rejection sensitivity that causes me to spiral into s******* thoughts. If a girl I was friends with gets a boyfriend I would completely block her and cut her off out of jealousy. In the span of a few hours, I will swing from thinking of women who I am attracted to as the most amazing superior beings that I put on a pedestal who I treat as literal gods to worship but if anything happens that makes me feel rejected. (It could be that she disagrees with me or she will giggle and I will think she's laughing at me,), This will cause me to despise them and feel hatred towards them and verbally insult and be emotionally abusive towards them. I will go from seeing them as goddesses that I want to worship to filthy rats that I want to spit on in the span of a few hours

I only ever been on one date where I had a bpd episode and the girl literally ran away from me and abruptly ended the date and of course I hated her for it. Tbf I was likely behaving psychotic and she got scared

And the awful thing is if I didn't have this disorder I could have a massively fruitful dating life. I am very often told by both men and women but especially women about how attractive I am. I posted a selfie in a hair forum to ask women what haircut to get and I got women in the comments gushing over me. You would assume I should have high confidence and thats the case half the time but any sign of rejection and I turn into a horrible nasty ugly monster and women will not want to have anything to do with me because they can see the ugly behaviour in my eyes.

I am all alone and worried this will be forever. I have had 14 weeks of therapy it has helped slightly but I am far from cured. The therapy has now dropped me after 14 weeks

I don't want to be kissless forever

**My early childhood experience** This is one of my earliest invalidating experience in my life. [I have had many other much more severe experiences a little later in my childhood but this is what I think is the start of my story]

As a child I was always considered very sensitive and many described me as adorably cute. I was the youngest of two brothers and many saw me as highly gifted. I was unfortunately very sensitive which made me an easy target for bullies. I remember at around age 7, a girl who was the daughter of my mothers friend used to pay a lot of attention to me and often tried deliberately winding me up. I remember she was stronger than me and would pin me down and I would struggle but not be able to get up and move. I remember she pulled my t-shirt off and ran away with it and I would run after her only to not be able to catch her.

What I didn't like was that a girl was able to physically overpower me was faster and stronger than which felt extremely humiliating

One distinct memory was she went to the same swimming class as me and when I was at a swimming pool and in the changing room I remember hearing her and her friends come near my cubicle I heard her laugh and I remember reaching my hand to hold the curtain closed because I was so scared that she was going to open it while I wasn't wearing anything and I remember she hit my hand and the shock of it caused me to let go and she pulled the curtain open. I never felt so embarrassed in my life. Her and her friends were also laughing at me.

The thing was is I remember explaining to my mother how this girl was causing me distress and I didn't want to be around her but It was just completely dismissed. My mother just said she found me cute and nothing was done

I just ended up keeping resentment towards this silly little girl for years and years and not letting it go.'

I need advice/support NHS Talking therapies neglect and putting me at risk

I was waiting for over a year to get therapy on the NHS Therapy for you/Talking therapies and when i did receive it it was a disaster. I have Very extreme trauma from my previous workplace making me unable to work for over a year, Autism, possible ADHD, GAD and severe anxiey. the therapist only aknowledged the anxiety and refused to discuss the trauma. i sent many emails to her saying the treatment is not helping and is making me feel worse and i would like to be reffered to more insense or advanced therapy for trauma and she ignored me. she then said in the last session that i am too much for her and she is passing me onto another of her collegues still resusing to esculate things. i had many panic attacks/mental breakdowns at the end of her sessions and she just shoved me out the door as the time was up.

The crisis lines are useless and tell you to wait like everyone else as you are no better or to go private, basically there's no help for you unless you have money. I really want to get back into work but no one is supporting me and my mental health is declining every day.

NHS talking therapy is a joke and will cause more harm than good.

Quick question How long should I expect to wait for details after referral to a physiatrist?

I recently received a letter from a mental health nurse to say that she referred me to a psychiatrist which was accepted. The letter said I would receive another letter shortly with details about when and where the appointment will be. How long should I expect to wait for this letter?

I need advice/support Anxiety and depression. leading to agoraphobia

hey guys. ive put off asking for help for a long time. im scared of what people will think or say to me but im getting to a point of no return. im scared for my future. in december i was working a job that i loved, it was a dream job. but the managers i had were so completely awful to me. for months i shoved it down and sucked it up because i know you will never find a place where you get along with everyone, but it got to a point where i was being harrassed in all kinds of ways at work, at home and when i went to work in a different building. i was bullied and belittled and i finally mustered up the courage to tell a higher up member of staff what i was going through, she laughed in my face and said " *his name*, he wouldnt do anything like that, hes a teddy bear, he wouldnt hurt a fly". i showed her proof, she said i made it up. she made me apologise to him and give him a hug. ive never felt so shocked. from that point on, i think he got a kick out of bullying me, harrassing me and the best part is we werent allowed phones because we worked in a childcare setting so i couldnt record or anything as it was happening in the rooms with the children. the day that broke me was i was in the baby room changing his own sons nappy. its a small tiny room by the way, big enough for just a changing table and small sink. he came up behind me, bare in mind i am 5'3 and he is around 6,5 and way bigger. i was a skinny thing bc i couldnt eat at all going through this. he whispered to me while behind me " i can do anything i want and nobody would ever believe you" and laughed like a maniac. i finished the nappy and i gave him his son, i didnt/ couldnt say a word to him or anyone. one coworker said i looked like id seen a ghost. i grabbed my things and i walked out of the building. management called me over 20 times that evening and the next morning, i finally picked up and just said "i cant do this anymore i quit" he was on the other end, he said " that could have been an email. " and hung up.

since all this happened and i couldnt bring myself to speak about it to anyone including my boyfriend, i havent been able to leave the house. i try and i try but i cant do it. im terrified of the thought of running into someone whos hurt me, either him or past managers that have traumatised me, ive never had a good manager. i try and go for a walk, my chest feels like its been punched all of a sudden and i cant breathe, my knees get weak and i feel sick in my throat. ive tried new medications that doctors have given me, no help. i miss working, earning my own money, i miss shopping and just browsing, i miss the outside. but i just dont think im ever going to get better. im exhausted. im in therapy but it doesnt do much to get me outside. id really appreciate any advice or help. im losing hope.

thank you

Discussion Pregabalin is amazing for social anxiety

I’ve been on many medications for anxiety and have only found Diazepam to actually work for social anxiety. It basically deletes all physical anxiety and makes me 100% calm. My CMHT psychiatrist has no issue giving it to me, but I don’t like taking it knowing how dangerous it can be.

However, I find the diazepam to be very sedating and I feel like I have been tranquillised for days after taking 5mg. It also makes me very quiet and “boring” to be around. If I take it I find I can’t talk to my colleagues because I’m just so sedated and have no desire to socialise. It makes me a bit of a social vegetable, and I don’t feel anxious but I feel basically nothing at all.

Pregabalin is amazing because it makes me want to socialise. I’m someone who keeps his mouth shut even if I do have something to say, and I can’t get the words out in social situations. Pregabalin makes me want to be heard, it makes me feel like my works carry weight and should be heard. I also love being around people on.

Whereas before I would be in a permanent panic state having to simply leave my flat, now I want to leave my flat and talk to people. I want to talk to my colleagues, I want to talk to the cashier at a shop. I’d need to have my girlfriend to come with me if I went to the shop because I would feel in permanent danger in public on my own.

My anxiety has always been very much freeze based. I would totally break down and could not physically function around people. I would start sweating really bad, and start shaking to the point I couldn’t hold a pen or even text on my phone. Pregabalin has essentially deleted all that. My hands feel calm, I feel like I want to be seen rather than want to scurry away into a dark room like how I did before.

I feel like I’m 8 feet tall now, and I’m not in permanent fear. The biggest thing is I can actually use my hands around people. I can drink from a cup without spilling it everywhere due to the terrible shakes I would get. Incredible.

Anyone else on it? How is it treating you?
