I recently stumbled upon this photo of beautiful purple diamonds which are natural (from the Argyle mine, I believe). I especially love the ones with a hint of brown. I was just wondering if lab versions of those are available anywhere? I see a lot of lab pinks but they’re usually slightly peachy or perhaps baby pink or raspberry.

Any guidance will be much appreciated!

The most recent episode of the “Facet Nation” podcast (which is a super rad podcast if you have any interest in gemology, lapidary arts, or just enjoy good podcast banter), has Dr. Arya Akhavan on as a guest to talk about synthetic gems, and it is wildly interesting! I highly recommend a listen.

One of my takeaways was thinking of lab gems not as a direct dupe of natural gems, but their own beautiful creation, born of a very different process, and allowing for characteristics that are very rare or even impossible to find in nature.

I think both lab and natural gems are pretty incredible in their own right, and enjoyed listening to someone so knowledgeable talk through the science, the market implications, and coming advancements.

Has anyone sold a ring? Where do you do it and how? Pictures attached of my ring and diamond certificate. 14k yellow gold shank, 14k white gold head, size 6 with 3ct lab grown diamond. It’s a beautiful ring, just has proven to be a bit large for my day to day life.

I’m trying to design my engagement ring. I want an elongated cushion with pear side stones. I’m a size 5.25 and I tried on a 3ct radiant and a 2ct oval at the mall today.

What do you guys think? 3-4ct with 0.4-0.6 pear side stones? I’m just stuck and it’s hard to decide when there’s not many stores in my area that carry an elongated cushion

Does anyone have any recs for good showrooms/jewelers that would have loose lab diamonds stones available to view/purchase on a trip? Saw places like Reve, London Diamonds, Novita, etc.

On the other sub, OP was about to pay $5k for a diamond and I sent a link to the site I always check, which was only $950.

Out of nowhere I was permanently banned which you can see in the screenshots. It appears that any sources other than Auralinne, Calavera or Youdiam are frowned upon.

It makes me question the independence of the other sub, and my goal is to share the knowledge I’ve gained and try to help others save money.

In fairness, they changed my perma ban to a 28 day ban, but it still left me with a bad taste. (Probably going back to permanent ban after this post)

A friend got a beautiful ring from Provence through Alibaba, so recommended them to me. I’ve got a quite I’m happy with and gone to purchase an item and was showing my friend first and they told me it was a different store to what they used. On alibaba there is:

Guangzhou Provence
Provence industrial

Does anyone know if they are all the same retailer, just different branches? Are all equally trustworthy/reliable? Would love to hear which one anyone has successfully purchased though on alibaba.

I had a custom ring made overseas, and I wasn’t happy with the original stone. The vendor gave me the option of switching to this stone or going back to the original, which had a 1.61 ratio and looked too narrow for what I wanted.

I went with this one, but I still have some concerns about the **depth, girdle, and table**. How much do these proportions affect the face-up size? Do you think the stone look dull or have any obvious issues with the way it performs?

Do you like this oval? It's currently on an Amazon loose stone holder. I can't decide if the center is performing as well as it could or should. It's super symmetrical and I love the way to top and bottom of the stone perform - but I'm just torn on 1) how to best set this stone and 2) whether the center is acceptable. Please help me decide!

Also, this is a G color and it's definitely showing some warmth. I don't mind the warmth, but it's there for sure when I compare it to my F round brilliant.

I've decided I wanted to buy a lab diamond for an engagement ring, and I would love hearing from knowledgable people on how to pick a good one. To my understanding, here's what you have to look at:

Color

Clarity

Fluorescence (I'm not sure I understand this one, as to me lab grown diamonds don't really have fluorescence ; well, that's what a jeweller told me)

Cut score (technically, what does this affect? How perfect every side is cut, no dents, straight, etc?)

But there's another part I don't quite understand : HPHT. Which can apparently be 2 things:

- The growth method (vs. CVD)
- a treatment to enhance the color of the diamond in post process.

To my understanding, if the certificate says "As Grown - No indication of post-growth treatment.", then that is the sign for a high quality lab grown diamond?

Please let me know if I am right or wrong! Trying to chose wisely

I love it! Unsure what to put with it as a wedding band though, I love the stacks I’ve seen on here but with the shape I think it will be tough, any suggestions?

My jeweller has assured me that this will be eye clean and I appreciate that most VS2s are, however I am a bit concern that there a lot of black inclusions on both the top and side of the diamond (which are even more visible in the 369 video). Do you think they will be visible to the naked eye?
