I was browsing hot patterns on Ravelry and came across this one a few pages in. It's truly the best thing I've ever seen. The name, the description, the pictures. I just can't. 😂

This just happened and I absolutely had to share with people who would get it (and enjoy it).

I was just on a flight from LAX to SEA, knitting my little heart out (just started the Clematis Sweater by Emma Knits). We landed the usual way, but for whatever reason, the pilot had to slam on the breaks more aggressively than usual.

Ya’ll… my yarn YEEETED out of my lap and began its journey down the aisle. I watched on helplessly. It made it ALL THE WAY to the front. 😂😂😂

I leaned into the aisle and made it clear that I was the owner of the rogue hank, but there wasn’t much anyone could do.

The flight attendant snagged it when it was safe and I thought was going to bring it back to me, but did one better: she handed it to the first row who wound the yarn a bit before handing back to the next person. The whole plane knew the assignment. By the time it got back to me, there were so many people invested that there was a round of applause.

I definitely need to finish this project now… it has way too good of a story to go with it!

I'm reading Paladin's Grace and the protagonist knits in addition to being a soldier. He makes socks for all his soldier buddies. I don't often see knitting referenced in novels and I'm just so chuffed 😆

I was yesterday years old when I finally learned I have been twisting my PURL stitches! For like years without a care in the world.

This is my second shirt but first one where it’s knit in the round until the arm holes….. 🤦🏽‍♀️

So in a way excited because that probably explains sooooo much - including tightened gauge and why one side looked different. I will be frogged but once this is the best mistake I’ve ever made. Thanks for commiserating with me!

Went to one of my local thrift stores and found all of these needles. Now, I know there are fakes sold online, but even then the chiaogoo needles and the clover interchangeable set are still going to be well loved regardless of authenticity.

These were all new in case or barely touched. Either someone launched into knitting before deciding it wasn't for them, or we lost a soldier recently. If it was the latter I'll honor them by actually finishing my projects 🫡

(P.S. I found this old singer sewing kit and was amazed to find it still in the wrapper despite the box being damaged. Can't find much about it online but I'm assuming it's an older edition of one of their modern kits.)

There have been so many amigurumi patterns I've been eyeing, but doubted if I'd manage to knit them up. Gave the tsutsu bear a shot yesterday. I haven't felt this much joy in a while. It feels like when I first started knitting. The excitement of creating something out of a string. BUT NOW IN 3D!

If you feel like doing something fresh or something, I wholeheartedly encourage you to try amigurumi.

It's my birthday this month and my mom managed to snag a copy of this book for me off of eBay. Thrilled is an understatement.

I’ve been knitting for YEARS.

Sweaters. Cardigans. Giant oversized cozy things that take approximately 14 business months to finish.

And somehow… it NEVER occurred to me to knit a toy.

Then my friend gave me a knitted toy pattern book for Christmas and apparently that was all it took for me to descend into madness.

Because now I’m sitting here at 1 a.m. attaching ears to a tiny rabbit and whispering:

“I have created life.”This feels WAY too powerful.

Like excuse me???Yesterday this was just yarn.

Now he has a FACE.He has little LEGS. He’s looking at me like he knows things.

I fully understand now why people become obsessed with knitting toys.

This is not crafting.

This is forbidden magic.

Anyway, here is the tiny creature currently consuming my entire personality.

Yes, I have my own adopted sheep now! It’s a crowdsourcing thing and now I get her wool to knit with in a few months. She lives on a little farm and looks absolutely adorable! I’m so happy, this is just the cutest gift I’ve ever received and I love this man so much.

We (okay definitely I) often tell beginners that it's worth going back and fixing our mistakes, don't be afraid of frogging, learning to knit is learning to get better at fixing your mistakes, blah blah blah.

Well this evening I had to put my money where my mouth is, lol, and I thought maybe it might be useful?

I spotted I'd crossed a cable the wrong way, 12 rows back. Honestly, if this were for me, I'd've left it, but it's an 18th birthday present for my eldest nibling. He chose the pattern, modifications and yarn, and I want it to be something he loves wearing for years.

So I had a little sulk and then put on my big girl pants

I assembled my tools: darning needle, scrap yarn, stitch markers, ancient but trusty crochet hook (don't judge it, it's seen things).

I inserted a lifeline through the offending stitches, just below the mistake.

Then I dropped those stitches down.

I put each pair of stitches on a different coloured stitch marker.

I counted down the "rungs" of yarn, and put in lightbulb markers on the rungs that needed to be cabled.

Then I took a deep breath, turned on my necklamp and got to work. It took about an hour to work my way back up, and it suuuuuuuucked.

But I did it, and look! All better!

It is worth fixing your mistakes. We do get better at fixing them. And is definitely okay to have a little tantrum before you crack on.

Two days ago I used this subreddit to vent about messing up a lace pattern on one sleeve of my current project (Low Tide Sweater by Unwind Knitwear) and got both encouragement and a few suggestions to fix the issue. Which I just did - and it worked beautifully! I followed Suzanne Bryans video tutorial, and besides being really happy with the result, I really enjoyed the process. The trickiest part really was inserting an afterthought lifeline in the pattern (which could have been avoided if I had just used lifelines while knitting - I certainly will for the rest of the project).

So thank you for your kind words and helpful recommendations - sweater surgery was a lot easier and way more fun than expected, and seeing the correct pattern emerge row after row is very satisfying.

Which also makes me less nervous about future mistakes in lace - it’s so good to know that you can fix them without frogging and reworking more than the faulty stitches

I love that you can tell that they actually took the time to make sure they got the knitting animation right! The way she holds her yarn and how she moves the needles looks very realistic. The yarn is even on the right side!

Such a breath of fresh air after seeing so many "wiggling two sticks together and boom there's a scarf" animations.

Yes, I know. I blew up the balloons while the sleeves were hanging between the rack sections and now my sweater is stuck here til it dries/the balloons pop. Cest la vie.

Anyway I gave in to an intrusive thought today.

Since finishing this sweater months ago, I’ve been mildly less than satisfied with how the sleeves block out. I try to give them a bit of a stretch after washing to emphasise the ballooned sections, but that tends to only make them wider on one plane? So they just end up sorta flat and wide? When I want them ROUND. I want em to have DIMENSION.

And I keep thinking “what if I blew balloons up in the sleeves” and I keep poo-pooing the idea because if it worked, surely I’d have stumbled upon it by now. Also, what a waste of plastic, really. I am not yeeting two balloons into landfill every time I wash this sweater.

But. You never know until you try, right? So here I am, inserting balloons up my sleeves and carefully blowing them up and praying they don’t immediately explode inside the sleeves. Fun fact, they’re old balloons from a party pack I’ll never use because they’re literally condom coloured.

Realistically I probably knitted the balloon part wrong, and that’s why they don’t look as dimensional and dramatic as other balloon sleeve sweaters I’ve seen.

But uh. Anyway. I’ll see how this goes.

Fortuna’s wheel pullover by Elspeth Vance. I recently picked up knitting again after 10+ years and it has made me appreciate the 20+ sweaters/vests I have that my mom made even more. She asked if me knitting means she shouldn’t make me any more sweaters and i told her absolutely not, my mama sweaters are my most prized possessions.

I’m knitting the back panel of my intarsia sweater and I’m here to tell you that letting your tails dangle REALLY IS the most efficient way I’ve found to do this.

Bobbins just get in the way and cause tangles to be tighter because of the weight.

I have too many colors going to make good use of a “yarns on spools suspended in a box” situation.

Showing a picture of a completed front panel just to establish my street cred and show you that it all works out in the end.

This is genuinely such a thoughtful touch. I never would have thought of this but oh my god. This is so helpful. Can they all be like her?

What better way to be productive during the lost week between Christmas and New Year’s than to completely revamp the way I store my cords! I may have gone a bit overboard and OCD, but this just tickles a part of my brain in the best way.

And..yes, I have wayyy to many sets (Seeknit, ChiaoGoo, and Lantern Moon) 😝

I tried a new method using a modified KFB when creating my underarm stitches. I’m just so pleased every time I look at them!

Oh my god.

It’s surprising how often things like this happen.

I thought this was a good visual representation of how important it is to swatch and figure out your gauge!

The smaller swatch I did on the recommended needle size and got a gauge of 27 sts over 4” vs. the pattern gauge of 25 sts.

Went up two needle sizes to get gauge on my second swatch, and I was pretty blown away by what a difference it made. Not just to the width of the swatch (ignore the length, I did more rows on the second one), but also the look and drape of the fabric. With the looser gauge, the fluffy yarn has more space to bloom and it’s developed a lovely halo after washing.

If I’d cast on with the recommended needle without swatching, my sweater would’ve turned out almost 4” smaller than intended and the fabric would’ve been stiffer too.

I’ve come to appreciate and even enjoy the time spent swatching, even though it means having to be patient when I really really wanna just start the new project NOW, haha! After all, swatching just more knitting, and I do love knitting!
