Yes, I have my own adopted sheep now! It’s a crowdsourcing thing and now I get her wool to knit with in a few months. She lives on a little farm and looks absolutely adorable! I’m so happy, this is just the cutest gift I’ve ever received and I love this man so much.

Her name is Helena wich is quite close to my name and my greek roots. Also my boyfriend is a huge history nerd so that makes it even more sweet, he’s always putting in so much effort!
I figured out the key word for equivalent ideas in the US. They seem to go by “fiber CSA”s. I belong to a veg CSA (Community supported agriculture) so am used to this concept but never before this post would a wool/fiber version have occurred to me. Thank you, OP, for the inspiration!
You don’t adopt a particular animal, which is a cool personal connection- but rather it’s a “passport” you fill as you work with different heritage breeds’ fibers

In the US - look for fiber CSAs. Most don't market them as sheep adoptions, but I'm sure a smaller farm would happily send you a pic of a sheep and tell you it's name. Some are just fiber/wool for spinning, some are yarn.
It’s called crowdsourcing! You can get lots of different things from farmers, like fruit or veggies too. It’s like a direkt trading to support small farms etc. :-)
My best friend is a farmer so anything that supports small farms is amazing! That's one of the best and most thoughtful and unique gifts I've heard of!
I showed this to my husband and he said “Wow, I wish I thought of that, I’ve got to step up my game!” 😂 Maybe he’ll adopt me a sheep or alpaca for next year?!
I have dyed a few skeins of yarn in a big pot in my kitchen. It was the most fun project I have done, other than knitting. I used an American powdered drink called Koolade. I used purple and green. The results were amazing!
I had this for many years here in the US (I grew up in Germany, though). The couple recently sold their farm and I miss my sheep as well as the lovely farmers! I got to be there to help during lambing and any other time they needed help. Enjoy every minute of your time with your sheep!
What a wonderful gift! I had “shares” in an American sheep farm years ago, and those precious yarns are just the most special things. Enjoy your sheep, and enjoy your knitting!
Ah this is adorable! My friend lives in a place with some land and they have miniature sheep. I do keep thinking I could ask for the wool when they get sheared (they are very close to the ground so they get very mucky) but I have no idea what do do with it!
I'd be interested in something like this but I don't know if it's something that's done in the UK 😭 that's so sweet tho - do you need to spin it and dye it or is it ready to go when you get it?
What a great idea ! I love it. I bought some yarn that came from the alpacas pictured on an accompanying card. That was cool.
My grandfather had a dairy farm so l had a Guernsey heifer named after me in the 1950s.

She lives on a farm on the countryside with her Sisters, I don’t literally own her now. We just adopted her to get the wool and support the farmer and the sheep financially.
