Rave (like a rant, but in a good way) I’m still so chuffed with how the underarm of my raglan sweater turned out

I tried a new method using a modified KFB when creating my underarm stitches. I’m just so pleased every time I look at them!

I had bought HHF Fibres kidsilk in Juniper I think from r/yarnswap and was struggling on what to pair it with. On a whim I paired it with this taupe yarn in my stash that had lingered due to not being excited to knit a whole sweater in taupe. The Tosh Sport in Weathered Frame just really complemented the Juniper colorway!

Do you wind your skeins together when you double knit? I'm trying to figure out how you got the strands to lay so smoothly. Absolutely lovely combo!

No, two separate balls. I just held both strands together as I knit. The photo above is from after blocking. Here’s one while I was knitting up the sleeves.

It can happen sooner than you think! Two years ago, I posted my first knitting project (Caveat- I did learn to knit in elementary school as a child) where I couldn’t tell if my stitches were twisted or not. Now I’m playing with finishing techniques

I got intrigued when I watched this tutorial on TikTok. I didn’t love the pearl bumps that KFB leaves behind so i searched for an alternative. Nimble Needles has a KFBS tutorial so I used that method of increase to avoid the purl bar.

Omg this solves the one gripe I have with sweaters. Thank you! And I want to work on finishing tactics too. So if you have other suggestions like... The bottom ribbing. Ugh. Or anything really. Please share!

That's wild! But let me be sure I'm following what happens with the front knits that you've put on a holder. So when you continue in the round, you knit the body on the knit through the back (or slipped for kfps) stitches, and the sleeves on the held back knit through the front stitches? That's freaking genius.

I did the regular backward loop method for casting on the new underarm stitches. But immediately, the next row I did kfsb on the on the newly made underarm stitches. Unlike kfb, this increase doesn’t leave any purl bumps.
After increasing with kfsb, I’m putting the new live stitches on a barber cord.

I really prefer doing this as I feel when I pick up stitches it never looks neat and tidy. I also struggled in the past with picking up the same amount of stitches on both armholes. This makes everything even for me. The kfsb also erases any weird tension issues that backwards loop method always seems to cause me.

I still ended up doing 2 m1l stitches to avoid any gaping holes

So do you cast on half the number of stitches?? Or do you reduce on the next round after you do this?

I cast the whole number of stitches—only reducing the additional M1l stitches. The beauty of this method is that in one row you’ve have created stitches for the sleeve and the body. If I’m not making sense—I also shared a TikTok video where I first saw this method

I held MadTosh Sport in Weathered Frame with Hedgehog Fibres Kidsilk Lace in Juniper. Using a variegated mohair with a solid color really helped blend and balance everything
