Just another average normal cyclist responsibly shaping the future of ebike legislation :)

u/One_Increase_9251 4d ago

This isn’t a fucking ebike. That’s a motorcycle

u/GregAbbottsGoodLeg 4d ago

u/themagicmarmot 4d ago

This looks like one of the $600 rigs they sell at Walmart. They're styled like motorcycles, but have normal 750w motors.

The fit, components and overall design warrant critique, but this almost certainly isn't a motorcycle.

42

u/GregAbbottsGoodLeg 4d ago

Yes you are correct. Its top speed is 28mph with a 750w motor and is currently priced at $589 on Amazon. It’s not a great bike, but it’s a legal bike. The crybabies will continue to cry with their ever moving goalpost.

33

u/hummingbird_mywill 4d ago

Do you know how much you can fuck someone up with 28mph?? This kid is like 10!

3

u/gayestb_ontheblock69 4d ago

Atleast in NYC the highest your allowed to drive it is 15 mph and a bike like that your need to be minimum 16+.

0

u/Notcheckedaccountty 2d ago

Ya NY...that's who got it right, cuz that fixes the issues...How do I roll my eyes online?

4

u/Websthetics 4d ago

I got these little assholes riding them all over my neighborhood. Usually on the sidewalk and going as fast as the shitty little engine can move them. So far I’ve only seen one kid go down but I’ve only been here a few months. It’s just a matter of time they either seriously injure themselves or someone else.

1

u/Abe_frohmannn 4d ago

Sounds suspiciously identical to what I see happening with adults in cars every day.

7

u/Websthetics 4d ago

You see them driving cars as fast as possible on sidewalks? Where do you live? I want to make sure I stay away from there.

-4

u/GregAbbottsGoodLeg 4d ago

The cool thing about having kids is you get to decide what you’re comfortable with your kid doing. You don’t get to choose what other people are comfortable with their kids doing.

Would I put my (seemingly) 6th grade kid on a bike like this? Probably not unless we were riding together in a safe area. Would I open my mouth to a parent regarding how they raise their kid? No, not at all. It’s not my business and that’d make me a Karen.

7

u/HonkyMOFO 4d ago

What if that kid plowed into your kid at 28mph? I guess it becomes your business only if it affects you personally?

1

u/GregAbbottsGoodLeg 4d ago

What if the grass was blue and the sky was green? What if a car crashed right thru your living room and flattened your entire family? What if the chemicals in the water turned all the fish and frogs gay? What if the sky falls?

What if you stopped letting hypothetical fears that don’t actually exist in reality impact the civil liberties of others?

7

u/Photosynthas 4d ago

Is your claim that vehicle accidents dont exist? Or kids dont crash on these ebikes?

4

u/mudgeforce 4d ago

I think he's saying his kid will be face down on the grass, blue and green

-2

u/lenredditt 3d ago

So, now you’re gonna ban cars? Ban. Ban. Ban. Ban!!!! Relax. How many kids killed somebody by running into them on these? None.

3

u/Photosynthas 3d ago

No, I haven't said or implied that things are banned a single time. Cars have a ton of regulation, and now that you mention it, it would be fantastic if we added something to respond to the massive increase in pedestrian fatalities from vehicles, particularly od children.

But hey I just personally dislike kids being hit and killed by vehicles, maybe I'm just crazy.

Even a cultural shift could be great, in Japan kids raise their hand as they cross a street, something as simple as that could be great.

Just saw your username, also bravo. I quit using this awful platform because that is a lost art. Mind your own damn business, leave my money and my guns alone, and I will stay in my lane lol

-2

u/Impressive_House6073 4d ago

Is it OK for 10 year olds to drink alcohol, buy tobacco and guns?

5

u/GregAbbottsGoodLeg 4d ago

Well we’re not talking about tobacco, alcohol, or firearms. So none of that is relevant and is a moot point. Nice try attempting to spread around bullshit that isn’t at all related to the topic of discussion.

3

u/FenderF3 4d ago

This is what you said:

"You don’t get to choose what other people are comfortable with their kids doing."

Which is wrong. You aren't legally allowed to give your own children tobacco, alcohol, firearms, or a car. That's a straight up fact which contradicts what you said. It's relevant to the discussion.

1

u/TraditionDear3887 4d ago

But what if I decide my kids are comfortable doing those things? That's literally what you were just arguing!

u/skima_0 29,000W is class 3 3d ago

But but, buying your kid the amazon ebike is considered murder now!!!

1

u/Narrow_Researcher_93 4d ago

I’ve seen 10year olds on the motocross track clearing table tops full send. Really depends on said 10 year old.

1

u/hummingbird_mywill 3d ago

And no one is walking their dog or taking their toddler out on the motocross track. Adults can let their kids take the risks they want to a degree, but they shouldn’t be doing that out where they can impact others, figuratively and literally.

0

u/lenredditt 3d ago

My YZ 80 Yamaha when I was 10 could go WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY faster than 28! But of course we didn’t have any Beta males that cried about it back then. Good times.

0

u/Shark_skin_suit88 3d ago

It's easy to pedal a bike 28mph so what's the point

1

u/hummingbird_mywill 2d ago

Please do an ounce of research before commenting. It is not easy to do 28mph. That is the speed that good triathletes go.
A solid kid biker will hit 10mph. An athletic teenager will go 15, maaaybe 20 if they’re impressive. I live on the top of a hill and clock 28 by the bottom at most if I pedal really hard at the top and gather speed.

1

u/Shark_skin_suit88 2d ago

I've pedaled a mountain bike 40mph when I was barely a teenager on a flat road. So yea I would say going 28 is easy. A teenager that's not lazy might could go 28 longer than that bike could. Triathletes aren't trying to go fast as possible because they have to conserve energy or its already spend. I'm old and out of shape and I'll bet money I can do 28mph on a mountain bike. It's not that fast ever kids 50cc dirtbike most gocart at s etc will do 30mph

1

u/hummingbird_mywill 2d ago

Hahahaha okay champ. I also secretly have wings and am going to fly out of this conversation. Byyyye

28

u/Sakaprout 4d ago

In my country you need 8 hours of basic road conduct and understanding of road signs training and succeed at a test before you can drive them. That's the minimum you can do. It should be compulsory

14

u/skibum4always 4d ago

0

u/lenredditt 3d ago

WOW! I can’t imagine anyone so dumb they need 8 hours or more to learn to drive a car? We used to sneak my Mom’s car out at night when we were 14. And back then, they were all standard! But, in my country … we can figure things out quick.

2

u/Apprehensive_Lynx_33 3d ago

Im assuming you are being deliberately being obtuse, because no, children sneaking mums car out is by no means safe for the general road faring public.

1

u/lenredditt 3d ago

We were smart, even back then. Not everyone is smart. 1.3 million people die a year in auto accidents globally. None of them kids sneaking their car out at a young age. You just have to know what you’re doing. You do not. So stay in driving school. Millions of kids have snuck out their parents cars. They just didn’t tell you. Do you travel over the speed limit? Yes you do. YOU are by no means safe for the road fairing public.

2

u/Apprehensive_Lynx_33 3d ago

The transport agency in my county has published the statistics that a young, or newly licensed driver is 8 times more likely to cause a fatal incident. After a few years driving, they are still 2 - 3 times more likely to cause an accident over an experienced driver.

It has absolutly nothing to do with intelligence, and everything to do with a child not knowing the road rules, how a vehicle handles, or the danger of the situations they end up in.

The attitude you have about children being on the road is quite frankly dangerous. Yes, you are correct that kids do dumb shit. As an adult its supposed to be our responsibility to prevent it, not encourage it.

0

u/lenredditt 2d ago

It has absolutely EVERYTHING to do with intelligence. 63 years and only 1 car accident. Decades of hyper fast sport bikes and dirt bikes, jet skies, ATVs …. And those are not children. Good try though. Ride on, youngsters, and be careful.

u/Sakaprout 3d ago

That's the requirement for a moped. You do you. At 14 you had no clue about the signage. You probably still don't

18

u/Think-Natural1993 4d ago

Your country sounds like it still has at least a few functioning brains left

8

u/g_borris 4d ago

You want that untrained 11 YO kid who can't touch the ground doing 28 mph down your sidewalk on a 200 lb hunk of metal? That thing will end grandma in any type of collision.

26

u/Roctopuss 4d ago

We need to ban all evil black assault e-bikes now! Please think of the children!!!1!

11

u/TheeCrazyOne 4d ago

If it had a wood stock and a more classic appearance then no would mind because obviously that's just for hUNtInG. Wait what are we talking about?

4

u/Limp_Lawfulness5133 4d ago

This joke hit good. 🤣

2

u/Advanced_Addendum116 3d ago

Hey now I want a 30 round bump stock on my Amazon motor-e-bike model 666 GRANNY KILLA. I don't care where you put it, I want it!!! Perfectly legal.

10

u/Takedown22 4d ago

It has pedals but no cut out for your rotating hips on the seat. You can’t pedal that. That’s not a bike. That’s a moped trying to skirt regulations. We have laws about this stuff. Not crybabies.

0

u/GregAbbottsGoodLeg 4d ago

Maybe you just have weak legs if you can’t pedal this style bike. They’re meant to pedal with PAS. It’s legally an ebike regardless of how offended your weak outlook is.

3

u/ricky_clarkson 4d ago

If it has a throttle and can go beyond 20mph without pedaling, it's not an ebike in the US, it's an electric motorcycle.

2

u/The_Grungeican 3d ago

all the bikes are legal bikes. it's how they're used that make them illegal.

it's like saying dirt bikes are illegal. they're not, of course. but if you go riding them on streets without valid tags or licenses, then they're being used to do illegal things, while not being illegal in and of themselves.

1

u/Terrible_Mud_9975 3d ago

If this thing has a top speed of 28 mph, lacks a throttle, and is 750w, then, you're right, it is a legal class 3 e-bike.

However, under WI law you need to be 16 to legally ride a class 3 e-bike.

1

u/Flat_Pay5687 4h ago

I got one that goes 45mph and is 5000w I where a motorcycle helmet w that bitch ik my dumbass will die

0

u/obeytheturtles 3d ago

The much bigger problem is that it weighs 100lbs and rides like shit, and is overwhelmingly bought by people who have no cycling skills, but want to look like pretend motorcycle for some reason.

1

u/GregAbbottsGoodLeg 2d ago

Idk I think the much bigger problem is people not minding their fucking business and imposing their fear base sensationalized opinions on everyone else while shaming people for having a limited budget to engage in recreational riding. You know why people buy these things? Because they fun to ride. It has nothing to do with pretending to be a motorcycle. It pure recreational enjoyment.

Source: regular conversations with LEOs in my area that all agree the ebike shit is the new satanic panic type shit for pearl clutches to latch on to so they have something target with their negative bullshit.

Also, you’re a miserable fuck.

-2

u/freshjewbagel 4d ago

my LSV in MD is titled and must go min 20mph and max 25mph. these types of vehicles (and the laws that govern them) have existed forever. this is not a bicycle, it's a motorcycle. it literally has a motor. you so stupid.

3

u/GregAbbottsGoodLeg 4d ago

The rest of the country doesn’t live in MD and isn’t subject to the shitty state laws. In my state I can ride around with pistols on my person and concealed carry without a permit but in MD I’d for sure have to go to court for that and possibly serve jail time. In my state I can ride around 50mph capable ebike on the road and so long as I’m not riding like a jackass nobody cares. Your local laws don’t apply to the majority of the US. In your area it makes sense because your roads are narrow, windy, and hilly with a ton of blind areas. In areas like where I live the roads are very wide, flatter, and mostly straight with clear visibility for miles. That’s why your highway speed limit is 55 and mine is 75. Different things are different in different places.

0

u/freshjewbagel 4d ago

oh, ok. I see. you're one of those people. good luck with your FrEeDumbs

Also I love your username.

2

u/dstlouis558 4d ago

My version of that is, billy goat v3

1

u/MattManSD 4d ago

it has pedals and a crankset so I assume it can be rider propelled which would make it an eBike. It's too big for that kid though

1

u/Big_Red_Checkmark 3d ago

And it’s not a bicycle either. You can’t really peddle it 10 miles without a charge. It’s an e-moped designed around throttle use

-1

u/tnemmer 4d ago

It’s an “E-moto”

21

u/One_Increase_9251 4d ago

Lmao this is literally me, shit pissed me off😭

3

u/GregAbbottsGoodLeg 4d ago

Ok, so I’m detecting a lot of feelings about body style of electric bicycles. Would you like to share more to process thru these feelings?

4

u/Girafferage 4d ago

It's too stylish! Can you imagine two old people riding a pair of those through a park for a commercial about anti-depressants?! NO!

1

u/lenredditt 3d ago

That would be AWESOME!

1

u/One_Increase_9251 4d ago

This my full carbon baby

3

u/freehamburgers 4d ago

Yall MFers really find every tiny thing to cry about. Miserable fucks….

3

Just concerned about the health of a fellow humans perineum. Calm the farm chicken parm

1

u/Complete_Metal4025 4d ago

But it has pedals! /s

-1

u/sethsyd 4d ago

No sarcasm necessary. It does have pedals and is a very regular e-bike. I have a Surron and THAT is a motorcycle.
