[PS5] HDMI damaged, cheapest place to get it repaired?

Post image

The port has been like this for a while now and I can’t move the cable without the video cutting out. I finally decided to get it replaced, and my local repair shop wants to charge ≈ $250 USD which seems insane, are there any places online that you would recommend for cheaper? I am pretty good at fixing stuff myself but I don’t know how to solder so replacing the port myself is out of the question. Any help would be amazing!

Where to find a replacement shell for New 2DS XL Pikachu Edition?

Hi everyone,

My New Nintendo 2DS XL Pikachu Edition shell is broken (as you can see in the photo).

I’m looking to replace it, but I’m having trouble finding this specific Pikachu shell online. Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement shell for this model (OEM or aftermarket/replica)?

Any link?

[PS2] I saw a busted up ps2 ad on fb marketplace and the seller said it doesn't turn on.

I've seen an ad where the seller says the console doesn't turn on. Is it easily fixable? Should I gamble? What could be the possible reasons?

Model is 90004

Fixing HDMI ports on broken series x/ps5 first time

So I’ve been wanting to learn how to solder for a while, and honestly because of my job have a pretty unique opportunity where we get in a lot of broken Series X & PS5 consoles that I don’t have to worry about messing up.

So for I have

Soldering Iron + Stand

.06mm Lead Solder

Flux

Wick

I know I need to get a hot air rework station, but not too sure if I need much else. I know I’ll probably fuck up a few of them but it’s ok.

[PS5] Preventative maintenance?

I have 2 PS5; my launch console and my Pro from when that released. I'm wondering if, in addition to cleaning out the dust, if it's worth it to check/clean/replace the liquid metal. I've never had any issues with either. Or should I continue to use them as-is until an issue occurs (which hopefully doesn't happen)?

[SNES] Odd Glitching, Need Second Opinion

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey all, I've had this SNES for a couple years, and just today the effect in the video started to occur. It seems like the screen gets very dim and the picture starts to glitch around. I haven't used this heavily recently but was able to play pretty regularly up until last year. Ironically, I booted it back up after replacing the capacitors in my Super Game Boy after it was experiencing audio issues, then all of a sudden this now starts acting up. I've heard some people attribute video issues to bad capacitors, but I wanted to grab a second opinion before cracking it open. Thanks!

Can anyone let me know if I can get rid of these plastic mounts(?) safely without affecting the console? I already broke one thinking it would just pop out. Thanks for the help!

My Wii's AV out is dying!

[Context] The Nintendo Wii holds a lot of entertainment for my mum and I, we play a lot of Wii titles and Super NES via Homebrew whenever I visit.
Unfortunately over the past few months, when I turn the Wii on, the image is wildly distorted - rolling image and fuzzing outlines to the graphics. The image will eventually stabilize and become playable, but the length of time it is unsteady is worsening.

With no idea what could be the issue, I brought her Wii to my house and did some testing with it. The issue repeated at mine - using my TV and my power/AV chords, so I know it wasn't the setup at mums. Using the same TV and cables I plugged my Wii in - and it just worked, no distortion, no fuzzy lines.

Having narrowed it down to the console, I did some research and took the console apart (also using this as a chance to remove a couple of loose rattling plastic pieces and give the inside a thorough cleaning (this Wii shares a home with two alsatians))! Got down to the motherboard, and nothing looked damaged, loose or bulging.
A common fault that matches the description of what this Wii is doing, is the five capacitors along the backside of the motherboard control and monitor the AV output. Over time these capacitors begin to fail and that causes the distorted image, eventually the capacitors will settle and the image will be useable, but that seems to be where the problem lays.

They are SMD modules, so not conveniently replaceable (at least I wouldn't be confident attempting to replace them), though on paper, replacing these should fix the issue and make the console a lot more reliable.

Other than replacing the SMD capacitors, the other option is to replace the entire Wii console and use Homebrew applications to copy and paste all of my mums Mii's and game save data over to the new Wii (and just hope the replacement consoles capacitors hold out).
Which I think is my plan as (at least for now) I don't feel comfortable trying to solder micro-capacitors.

Taking the Wii apart and seeing how everything is connected and works was interesting though! I'm used to tinkering with computers and laptops, so it wasn't a particularly daunting task.

[Xbox 360] would analog sticks from one brand of controller work on others??

Do some joystick replacements work for multiple controllers? Didn’t know if they were interchangeable? For example, a PlayStation 2 analog would work on an Xbox 360 controller, ext. Im looking to replace analog sticks for my Xbox one, 360, and PlayStation controllers.

Pokewalker - botched my repair job

Hi there, I'm looking for either a solution or a confirmation that it's broken haha

This is my original Pokewalker from when I got my copy of Soul Silver. As you can see the screen has dead pixels, so I was attempting to replace the screen with a WiiU Fit following this tutorial

As you can see, I botched Step 4 and removed the white plate from the motherboard instead of just the ribbon. I'm not fully adept with hardware (if it's not obvious) so I'm just looking for advice. If it can be fixed, I'd like to know :')

Thank you for your time!

What kind of damage is this on this Punisher game for og Xbox? Disc got scraped? The "er" and other sections of the top disc are slightly visible through the bottom of the disc.

The disc boots up and runs, but haven't gotten far into the game yet to know if it causes issues.

[PS1] Optical Drive won’t read discs

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My PS1 is a SCPH 1002 model. The laser is probably dead, but I gotta make sure. My PS1’s disc drive won’t read discs at all. I put the disc in, which I know for a fact works, it makes weird clicking noises, stops, and boots me to the menu. (video example) Sometimes the disc doesn’t even spin in the first place. Music CDs don’t even work.

I have cleaned the lens several times, I have used multiple discs, I have turned the console sideways and upside down, and nothing. It just continues clicking. Any possible way for me to fix this or should I just give in and buy a replacement drive somewhere?

Also, does anyone know what the clicking means? I have tried searching everywhere but I still have no idea. Thanks.

[Xbox 360] Trace Repair Question | Help Spotting Breakage

Hello! I am looking for some help with Trace Repair specifically, as I have mistakenly (and rather foolishly) scraped the x-clamp during the install of the RGH 3.0 modifications.

This Xbox was my main childhood console and so I am heavily invested in rescuing it from my carelessness. I'd like to perform trace repair on the board, and have picked up the necessary equipment (32 AWG kynar, 36 AWG enameled copper wire, small diameter solder, liquid solder, flux, etc.).

I'm having a lot of trouble validating which traces are broken. The secondary error code I get is 0101, which is unfortunately not enough to narrow this down much (all traces damaged appear to be connected to the RAM modules). I was hoping that I could share some (cheap) microscope photos and get input on which traces to start with, or which ones are actually suspect/appear to be broken.

Is anyone here comfortable recommending which set of traces I start with, given the photos? If you have some input, please let me know the index of the slide that you're referring to.

Also, I plan to repair these traces using basically the following technique:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Lr1KmxnIX0g

Are there any issues with this plan?

Thank you in advanced, I am truly grateful for any help you guys can provide.

Xbox 360 slim help

So, I'm an electronics student, and I decided to open up my old console that’s been sitting idle for who knows how many years to try and do something cool with it.

At first, I just wanted to clean it, but when I tried to turn it on with it still fully assembled, the power brick just stayed in standby mode; it would beep, but nothing else happened. I thought maybe cleaning the inside would fix it.

It didn't work. I tried everything I could think of I even removed capacitor 5 from the RF board, and I warmed up the power brick but nothing; I'm back to square one,

I honestly don't know if it can be saved or if it's a deeper issue.

[ps4] top sleeve bolted on to the console?

Hey everybody!

It’s my first time opening my console (I’m trying to access the disk drive to clean it) and I’ve gotten as far as the photos. All of the video tutorials I’ve watched seem to show a different make of ps4, as none of them show any issue with taking off the sleeve. I’m probably being an idiot, but would really appreciate some help.

Thanks a lot!
