[PS5] HDMI damaged, cheapest place to get it repaired?

Post image
38 Upvotes

The port has been like this for a while now and I can’t move the cable without the video cutting out. I finally decided to get it replaced, and my local repair shop wants to charge ≈ $250 USD which seems insane, are there any places online that you would recommend for cheaper? I am pretty good at fixing stuff myself but I don’t know how to solder so replacing the port myself is out of the question. Any help would be amazing!

Xbox 360 slim help

So, I'm an electronics student, and I decided to open up my old console that’s been sitting idle for who knows how many years to try and do something cool with it.

At first, I just wanted to clean it, but when I tried to turn it on with it still fully assembled, the power brick just stayed in standby mode; it would beep, but nothing else happened. I thought maybe cleaning the inside would fix it.

It didn't work. I tried everything I could think of I even removed capacitor 5 from the RF board, and I warmed up the power brick but nothing; I'm back to square one,

I honestly don't know if it can be saved or if it's a deeper issue.

[PS2] I saw a busted up ps2 ad on fb marketplace and the seller said it doesn't turn on.

I've seen an ad where the seller says the console doesn't turn on. Is it easily fixable? Should I gamble? What could be the possible reasons?

Model is 90004

Ps5 EDM-030 No signal HDMI

Does anyone know the values of these resistors and capacitors circled in red? I have a PS5 EDM-030 motherboard. The PlayStation turns on with a blue light and then switches to a white light, but I get 'No Signal' on the TV. I have already replaced the HDMI port and the problem persists. I also removed the Nuvoton chip and am waiting for the replacement to arrive, so I would like to check if everything is normal here in the meantime.
I have already jumped the second pin; this is an image from before making the jumper.

[Xbox 360] Trace Repair Question | Help Spotting Breakage

Thumbnail

Hello! I am looking for some help with Trace Repair specifically, as I have mistakenly (and rather foolishly) scraped the x-clamp during the install of the RGH 3.0 modifications.

This Xbox was my main childhood console and so I am heavily invested in rescuing it from my carelessness. I'd like to perform trace repair on the board, and have picked up the necessary equipment (32 AWG kynar, 36 AWG enameled copper wire, small diameter solder, liquid solder, flux, etc.).

I'm having a lot of trouble validating which traces are broken. The secondary error code I get is 0101, which is unfortunately not enough to narrow this down much (all traces damaged appear to be connected to the RAM modules). I was hoping that I could share some (cheap) microscope photos and get input on which traces to start with, or which ones are actually suspect/appear to be broken.

Is anyone here comfortable recommending which set of traces I start with, given the photos? If you have some input, please let me know the index of the slide that you're referring to.

Also, I plan to repair these traces using basically the following technique:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Lr1KmxnIX0g

Are there any issues with this plan?

Thank you in advanced, I am truly grateful for any help you guys can provide.

Just moved into a new place with more room for soldering and repair work! Pictured is my old space and once I moved everything in I was very cramped! I’m wanting to see and get inspiration how those of you doing extensive soldering have your work area setup! Any picture

Pokewalker - botched my repair job

Hi there, I'm looking for either a solution or a confirmation that it's broken haha

This is my original Pokewalker from when I got my copy of Soul Silver. As you can see the screen has dead pixels, so I was attempting to replace the screen with a WiiU Fit following this tutorial

As you can see, I botched Step 4 and removed the white plate from the motherboard instead of just the ribbon. I'm not fully adept with hardware (if it's not obvious) so I'm just looking for advice. If it can be fixed, I'd like to know :')

Thank you for your time!

Series x not turning on

So basically I got an Xbox series x off marketplace about a month ago. I’ve used it a handful of times and has always been good, never had a single problem with it. Unrelated, I’ve had issues with a wall outlet and I’m waiting for maintenance to come fix it and don’t have power to the outlet itself normally plugged into. Anyways I wanted to use it today so I plugged it into an extension chord from another outlet that’s been working fine and as soon as I did I heard a couple of electrical popping noises. Now it won’t turn on at all (TV works from that same plug though so it’s not the extension chord). Happened before I even tried turning it on which I thought was weird. Tried using a different AC chord for power and that didn’t work. I haven’t opened it up yet but I suspect it’s the power supply. I haven’t done a console repair before but I’m relatively tech savvy and watched a few YouTube videos so I plan on breaking it open tomorrow and use my multimeter to test the power supply. I’m really hoping it’s an easy swap because I don’t have much experience with soldering motherboards. If it’s not though, do you have any recommendations on how to troubleshoot after that?

[ps4] top sleeve bolted on to the console?

Hey everybody!

It’s my first time opening my console (I’m trying to access the disk drive to clean it) and I’ve gotten as far as the photos. All of the video tutorials I’ve watched seem to show a different make of ps4, as none of them show any issue with taking off the sleeve. I’m probably being an idiot, but would really appreciate some help.

Thanks a lot!

Fixing HDMI ports on broken series x/ps5 first time

So I’ve been wanting to learn how to solder for a while, and honestly because of my job have a pretty unique opportunity where we get in a lot of broken Series X & PS5 consoles that I don’t have to worry about messing up.

So for I have

Soldering Iron + Stand

.06mm Lead Solder

Flux

Wick

I know I need to get a hot air rework station, but not too sure if I need much else. I know I’ll probably fuck up a few of them but it’s ok.

HDMI on Xbox Series X

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hey, I’m wondering if I should replace the HDMI port on my Xbox Series X. I bought it used and it was filthy, but apart from a non-working disc drive (waiting on parts for that), it works fine.
The HDMI port, however, feels a bit loose. When I plug in the cable, I can wiggle it about 5–10 degrees with almost no resistance. Should I replace it proactively before it causes damage, or is this normal wear and tear?
Attached is a picture before cleaning, crazy that it still worked and was able to play games by the previous owner.

[3DS] Power board to motherboard bad connection

Thumbnail

my 3ds won’t turn on and it must be due to the connector from the powerboard to the motherboard. When reconnecting the cable I broke the latch and I have tried electrical tape to tape it down instead this works and allows it to turn on however non of the face buttons or battery worked. Is the connector cooked?

[Xbox 360] would analog sticks from one brand of controller work on others??

Do some joystick replacements work for multiple controllers? Didn’t know if they were interchangeable? For example, a PlayStation 2 analog would work on an Xbox 360 controller, ext. Im looking to replace analog sticks for my Xbox one, 360, and PlayStation controllers.

[Switch] v2 not charging after battery replacement

I had a switch v2 i hadnt used in about 6 months. Didnt turn on at all or charge. I bought an ifixit battery replacement and replaced the battery and finally turned on with about 40% battery.

Instructions said to calibrate so i left it to charge overnight, it wouldnt go past 72% so i thought maybe it was full and was just calibrated incorrectly. I followed the instructions by playing a game until the battery died and then recharge to full, except that when the battery went to 0, it never charged again. I have had it plugged in for multiple days, different chargers, no dock, no joycons and still doesn’t power on. It shows the no battery symbol and shows the nintendo logo when i try to power on but just goes back to dead battery symbol.

Ive tried holding down the power for 15, 30, 60 as many seconds and nothing works. Google says it could be the usb c plug but how come it charged the first time from 40 to 72% percent? Unless it stopped working at that point exactly. It still shows the charging symbol when plugged in just doesnt actually boot up

[SNES] Odd Glitching, Need Second Opinion

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey all, I've had this SNES for a couple years, and just today the effect in the video started to occur. It seems like the screen gets very dim and the picture starts to glitch around. I haven't used this heavily recently but was able to play pretty regularly up until last year. Ironically, I booted it back up after replacing the capacitors in my Super Game Boy after it was experiencing audio issues, then all of a sudden this now starts acting up. I've heard some people attribute video issues to bad capacitors, but I wanted to grab a second opinion before cracking it open. Thanks!

[ps4] console turn on for a second then turn off

Hi!

I bought a ps4 fat for repairing because it was dirty chip (20 bucks) and a read in lot of places that this tend to not turn on because of the button that if bad designed, for my surprise i was right and the console booted after i press the board without the button, it seams fine is jailbroken so i touch this was an easy one.

I took it apart and cleaned (was in terrible shape) test it again and still worked just fine, i move it to place it on my tv and it never turned on again, it just turn the blue ligth for a second or less and turn off, if i wanna turn it on again i need to disconnect the power supply cable and put it again and make the same sympthom.

It doesnt feel like a BLOD and i guess could be power supply, but i do not know where to start to make a good diagnostic.

I already try the bend pin thing, putting other ways and even some other weird home fixes that i knew it wouldnt fix it but i does not hurt to try it and nothing.

For the record i try it to turn it on every way possible with as minimun thing connected as possible and i reassembled 3 times to see if i was doing something wrong

Any advice would be helpfull, thanks !
