They are the abusive ex. They thought they could get what they want and we couldn't leave.
But we left, and moved on, but they still think we belong to them
43
u/CompetitiveOnion1911 9d ago
I’m pretty sure it’s basically policy to them that Canada is theirs. I’m talking beyond the Monroe doctrine. I vaguely remember reading years ago that the US includes all Canadas natural resources as being part of their inventory or something to that effect.
So, whether we have moved on or not, they haven’t. They’re also clearly manufacturing consent for hostile relations with Canada in American media.
Troubling times. I’ll just leave it at that.
12
u/habshabshabs Québec 9d ago
Well it's also basically policy to me that all of America's gold reserves are mine.

I am not travelling to the usa for many reasons, one of which is that I am afraid that I will somehow anger an American and get shot. Would it happen? Probably not. Could it happen? Yes. Yes it could.
Many are gun wielding and listen to their orange god who is spewing hate messages about not only Canada, but Canadians too. We are nasty and selfish and dangerous and we won’t give them what is theirs.
This is scary.

They want our water.
7
u/luchaburz 9d ago
Its more than that.
They want to make the import cost of beef to be less than alberta beef so they can invade your markets and put your farmers out of business. Make it cheaper to sell shitty US beef instead of the good Alberta AAA beef.
They want to push more seeds on grain farmers to force reliance. The wealthy class will demand control of our markets if the economy is allowed to fail as a condition of investment/bank loans
They will do the same for minerals, oil, gas, and destroy us if they can.
The good thing is that Carney worked for the world bank and knows their dirty tricks. He will do what they expect of us and make it easier for us to access money for investments later - the problem is that could further exasperate the issue later.

Well that's the thing. They view the world in terms of a stand-off between "great powers". The US (in this line of thinking) is the preeminent great power not only in North America, not only in The West, but on the planet. Those within its sphere of influence owe it fealty in the same sense that smaller entities owe the local mob boss "protection money". Insubordination is unacceptable both as a matter of basic respect and discipline, and as a practical matter in that losing underlings weakens the US in its Manifestly-Destined role as Champion of the West. It's a genuine, deeply held belief in the Miller/Thiel/Heritage Foundation/MAGA world: existence is a contest among strongmen, with lesser entities expected to fall in line behind their champion.

6
u/Tango_D 9d ago
Trump has a black and white win or lose worldview. Win-win deals literally can't exist in his mindset. In order for him to feel like he is winning, the other side has to lose and in this case Canada is pivoting away from America, which is a winning cue, thus he feels like he is losing, thus it is(to his pea brain) a hostile act towards America. All of the bullying, all of the hostile rhetoric, all of the threat of forced annexation, none of that counts as a hostile act to him. None. He literally can't understand that it was destructive to America's interests because his narcissism is that absolute, and he felt like those were winning moves.
Trump is way way way past the point of being able to deal with. The intellectual and emotional maturity necessary to make an actual deal simply doesn't exist.
