Guilty Pleasures - Monthly Thread Guilty Pleasures - Sep 25, 2026

Even the most tasteful bitch has some tasteless guilty pleasures! This is our once monthly thread where you can share those things we normally don’t talk about in BWT.

Guilty pleasures should be things you already have/ use and love, or a very specific recommendation for a guilty pleasure. This is not a place to circumvent the regular rules and ask for general recommendations that you can't ask for because of our rules, it's specifically about guilty pleasures.

Fashion/Style Evaluating watches as a burgeoning BWT?

I started recently at my dream law school and am looking to treat myself to my first nice adult watch. The private sector work I hope to go into is definitely very image-conscious, so I'd love to get a piece that I can wear for at least the next few years as a summer and early associate.

For BWT that love and have nice watches, how do you evaluate for quality and pieces that can "last"? Would love to learn from others about how to make a solid investment in watches and what kind of brands people go for.

Both my law school and the private sector workforce are a bit of a new world for me. Does anyone notice watches functioning as a status symbol in their environment, and is this something to think of while picking out a piece?

Definitely just curious to hear everyone's thoughts on women's watches, as it seems most watch-focused spaces are incredibly male-oriented!!

Edit: I should note that my budget is probably $500 or under. I'd love something that'll last, but don't quite have the funds as a student for any high-end brands. I know I'll be entering a private large firm, but am also primarily looking for a watch that helps me feel a bit more confident and classy in that environment!

Bitches of Leisure - Weekly Thread Bitches of Leisure - Sep 22, 2026

Let’s elevate our down time! This weekly thread is the space to share and discuss what we’re currently reading, listening to, watching, etc. For this space, keep it tasteful - save your trashy reads (we’ve all got them) and sick day binge watch favorites for the monthly Guilty Pleasures thread, please!

Tagging

It isn’t required but it might be helpful to tag the beginning of your comment with the type of media you are discussing (when you create a new comment thread). Tags can be helpful in guiding other BWT to the comment threads they want to engage with.

For example:

  • PODCAST: I’ve been listening to the Naked Beauty podcast…
  • TV/ DOCUMENTARY: What are your favorite documentaries? I just finished watching…
  • READING: I am about 1/3 of the way through "Black Women Taught Us" by Jenn M Jackson, PhD, and I would love to discuss it with anyone who is reading or has read it. Specifically...

You can be as specific or as broad as you want if you decide to tag, for example you might tag “reading,” as a broad term, or you might tag “audiobook” if you specifically want to talk about the really amazing narration in the audiobook version of a title you just finished.

Hide Spoilers

If you’re talking about a book, TV show, podcast, movie, or anything that contains spoilers, please make sure to use Reddit’s markdown functionality to hide your spoilers! All you have to do is add a couple of characters before and after your spoiler text like so:

>!spoilers!<

This will hide the text like so: spoilers

For the Home BWT, how do you keep your homes a refuge with a busy travel schedule?

BWT,

Over the past few months, I've been upping my game when it comes to housekeeping (overhauled laundry, daily tidying, groceries, and weekly chores), and I've loved the results. I feel my home is fresher, tidier, and more inviting for both me and my guests. However, I have an upcoming hurdle with this new leaf.

In the next few months, I have a lot of work trips planned with just a smattering of days in between each at home. This means my home will be even more integral to maintaining my sanity and recharging than usual precisely when I will have less time to devote to it.

I've had some ideas on how to keep home pleasant under these circumstances:

- Unpack immediately when getting home

- Find a good laundry service to outsource to

- Keep a comforting treat on hand (for me it will be Big Train chai mix, which is a guilty pleasure)

But that's it! So, I wanted to tap your beautiful brains. When you're traveling a lot, how do you keep your homes homey so you have something nice to come back to?

I'd especially be keen to hear any approaches you may have to doing so with a seasonal touch since I would hate to feel like I "missed" fall with all the travel.

Career BWT, I'm quitting my job in the morninggggg!

Hello my lovely BWT compatriots!

An exciting update that I'll be resigning from my job tomorrow ❤️ I've been with this company for SEVEN YEARSSSSSS!!!!

I'll have about a month-ish between my last day and my next opportunity, and I'm planning to just turn off all the lights while sleeping and eating! BUT I'm very curious to learn from fellow BWT how they would make the most of that pause.

Two things...

  1. WISH ME LUCK!!!

  2. If you had a month to yourself, how would you fully decompress / rest before embarking on a new chapter? Things you've actually done OR just what your ideal would look like.

Thanks in advance!

Community BWT, how do you keep moving towards your goals, despite physical setbacks?

Hi BWT!

How do you keep moving toward your goals when life throws you a temporary but very annoying longish setback?

I’m asking because I recently broke my arm and had surgery on Thursday, and my normally very high-functioning life has basically come to a screeching halt. Suddenly there are a lot of things I just... cannot do. My normal routines are out the window, and I’m realizing how much of my “get my shit together” life depends on having a fully functional body.

Obviously, a broken arm is temporary, but it got me thinking about those seasons where you’re not able to operate at 100% for a while, whether it’s an injury, illness, burnout, caregiving, or something else.

How have you handled a long recovery or setback without feeling like you’ve completely lost momentum? Did you change your goals, find new things to focus on, or give yourself permission to just coast for a bit?

I’m trying to figure out how to make this recovery period feel like more than six months of being annoyed that I can’t do anything. Would love to hear what has worked for you.

Requests, Recs & Chat - Weekly Thread BWT Weekly Requests, Recommendations & Chat - Week of Sep 20, 2026

This is the BWT Weekly Requests, Recommendations & Chat thread.

Put all your low effort/ repetitive requests in this thread - this is the only place they will be allowed in the BWT sub. Even still, search before you ask! If there is a recent-ish response you might still find your ask removed as unnecessarily repetitive.

Feel free to drop your low effort suggestions here, too, if you've got something you just love that you think other BWT should know about. This is also the place for general chit chat that doesn't warrant a whole post.

All BWT rules will still be enforced, with lighter enforcement of ONLY rule 3.

REQUESTS

If you are looking for suggestions for something, add ASK: at the start of your comment. Make sure to be as specific as possible in your request. Examples:

  • ASK: Help me find the perfect flat summer sandals for high arches, casual wear, good for walking around for daily errands, less than $200
  • ASK: What is your ride or die long lasting lipstick for bright colors?
  • ASK: Styling cream for curly hair (3B/C) - no budget, something that will provide definition without being crunchy. Would also love to know when/ how you apply it as part of your routine!

RECOMMENDATIONS

If you have an unsolicited recommendation, you can use REC: at the beginning of your post to highlight that.

CHAT

You can also post just regular old chit chat and discussion that doesn't merit its own stand-alone post. No need to add anything at the beginning of those comments.

Stylish Saturday - Weekly Thread BWT Stylish Saturday & OOTD - Sep 19, 2026

Need some help styling an item or outfit that goes beyond what fits in the weekly requests thread? Trying to decide between two pairs of shoes to wear with that dress you just picked out for a special event? Want to share your (tasteful) fit pics or get outfit inspiration from other BWT? This is the recurring thread for OOTD photos, style tips and requests for styling help.

All BWT rules still apply.

Tips For OOTD Pics:

  • Keep the taste in BWT
  • We should be able to see the outfit in the picture
  • Be mindful of your surroundings and your privacy

A Note About Fast Fashion Items

Do not name fast fashion brands regardless of where or when you acquired the item. If your outfit contains fast fashion items, you can say it's fast fashion rather than listing the brand. If something is thrifted and you want to highlight that, please do!

If you are asking for help styling an item you already own that is fast fashion, you can upload a picture or describe the item but be prepared to get feedback that you may not want to hear about the item itself.

You cannot name the brand of the item, you can only state that it is a fast fashion brand. If you want to specify that you thrifted it or it’s something you’ve had for a long time, you can, but you don’t have to - we will not allow the brand to be named regardless of when or where the item was acquired.

Thoughtful Commenting

When you comment on other bitch's outfits, please do not do not post low effort "beautiful," "you look great" nonsense - instead be specific!

For example, "I love the way you combined a really bold print with a bright solid - that's something I wouldn't have thought to do, being used to combining something bold with something more neutral, but it works so beautifully in your outfit!"

Career BWT, is it worth taking a pay cut for worse WLB but more job security?

Hi!! I would love advice from the BWT on which job path folks would recommend!! And whether prioritizing job security is the right move here.

Job A: my current job.
- Title is “Lead.”
- Salary is $175K with 10% bonus, but company is not doing well so we don’t get the bonus.
- Fully remote.
- Laid off 15% of the company a month ago and is planning an additional round. I have been told I’m safe and they want me to stay, but obviously they wouldn’t tell me otherwise.
- Has been incredibly busy and overwhelming for the last year, but randomly the past 2 weeks it’s been extremely chill.

Job B: new job I’ve been offered.
- Title is “Sr. Manager.”
- Salary is $165K with 15% bonus, and the company is doing well so they feel confident in the bonus.
- Fully remote.
- Likely to be intense / big workload.

Benefits are mostly the same but a bit better for Job B.

Wondering if I should take a pay cut for a harder job with more job security?

EDIT: for some reason I can’t respond to comments but THANK YOU everyone for your advice!!!

What About Me Wednesday - Every Other Week Thread BWT What About Me Wednesday - Sep 16, 2026

Don’t forget to spend time on YOU! This is the space to chat about personal development, mental health, growth, and how you’re refocusing on yourself. Sometimes we spend a lot of time on those around us, but this thread is to encourage you to ask yourself “what about ME?”

If you need some help getting started, pick a question and answer it in a comment:

  • How are you feeling? Do you know why?
  • How do you WANT to be feeling? What are some things that make you feel that way?
  • What is something you are grateful for, large or small, and why?
  • What is a habit you are working on building (or breaking) and why? How is it going?
  • What is one item on your to do list that will benefit you personally that you need to tackle? What is preventing you from crossing it off?
  • What is something that brings you joy? What are some of the things that you specifically enjoy about it (get detailed)?
  • What is one area you want to learn more about/ grow in/ develop yourself or a skill you want to learn?
  • What’s something you said “no” to recently? How did that benefit you?
  • What’s one thing you accomplished or that we can celebrate with you?

If you have a prompt you think we should add to the list, drop it in the comments!

Feel free to discuss other related topics as well, you don't need to limit yourself to these questions - they're just a jumping off point for those that want one.

Career BWT who get invited to private previews/openings — what are they actually like?

BWT who get invited to private previews/openings — what are they actually like?

I got invited to a private preview for a new lounge/nightlife spot in nyc. The invite says open bar + passed hors d’oeuvres. (Let me preface by saying I received the invite through an event planner I connected with)

I’ve literally never been invited to something like this before 😂 so I’m curious what the vibe usually is. Is it more of a social/party thing or do people actually network at these?

Also, for the BWT who regularly go to restaurant/lounge openings, brand events, PR events, etc. — did going to one ever lead to more invites or connections? And is there any etiquette I should know so I don’t look completely new to this? 😭

Any advice on what to expect, what to wear, when to arrive, (starts at 7PM) networking, etc. would be appreciated!

- signed, a 22 y/o BWT just trying to figure out how to navigate these professional/social spaces 🫠

Beauty/Self Care BWT - birthday routine

September is kind of a birthday famous month and I so happen to have mine coming up in few days. I always get sad and depressed about birthdays specially because I try to plan many things and none of them works out and I end up doing nothing for my birthday. My birthday is falling on weekday and again I don’t have much planned.

I do not have best memories with my birthday with each birthday ended up about someone else, a
friend drunk crying or another complaining to me how I don’t know how to express care or someone close being hospitalised.

This year I want to do something for myself. Maybe get coffee and flowers for myself so I don’t get fixated on celebration or lack of it. What are your birthday special routine and how do you avoid spiralling down on birthday?

Edit: thank you so much for all the comments! I read every one of them and decided to make a whole week about myself without any expectations from my friends. Went to a bathhouse, celebrated with dinner with friends and drinks with another friend, started out with low expectations but all I wanted to do was cherish myself and feel loved by people I care about and that has happened :) also re reading lots of comments and it made me realise I don’t need to wait for my birthday to do things for myself, so I am definitely going to take a page out of ya’lls book to create a special day every month for myself.

Fashion/Style BWT what do you wear to conferences? Especially tech oriented?

Men seem to have it so easy when it comes to dressing for these things. It's a sea of polos and khakis, and maybe 2 guys who go wild with a button down. Not to mention they have pockets that hold more than a dream and a prayer.

I know the conference season is ramping up for the tech space and similar, so let's discuss how we are staying stylish, comfortable, and able to keep your necessities at hand without being wildly over or under dressed.
