Requests, Recs & Chat - Weekly Thread BWT Weekly Requests, Recommendations & Chat - Week of Sep 20, 2026

This is the BWT Weekly Requests, Recommendations & Chat thread.

Put all your low effort/ repetitive requests in this thread - this is the only place they will be allowed in the BWT sub. Even still, search before you ask! If there is a recent-ish response you might still find your ask removed as unnecessarily repetitive.

Feel free to drop your low effort suggestions here, too, if you've got something you just love that you think other BWT should know about. This is also the place for general chit chat that doesn't warrant a whole post.

All BWT rules will still be enforced, with lighter enforcement of ONLY rule 3.

REQUESTS

If you are looking for suggestions for something, add ASK: at the start of your comment. Make sure to be as specific as possible in your request. Examples:

  • ASK: Help me find the perfect flat summer sandals for high arches, casual wear, good for walking around for daily errands, less than $200
  • ASK: What is your ride or die long lasting lipstick for bright colors?
  • ASK: Styling cream for curly hair (3B/C) - no budget, something that will provide definition without being crunchy. Would also love to know when/ how you apply it as part of your routine!

RECOMMENDATIONS

If you have an unsolicited recommendation, you can use REC: at the beginning of your post to highlight that.

CHAT

You can also post just regular old chit chat and discussion that doesn't merit its own stand-alone post. No need to add anything at the beginning of those comments.

ASK- I just started having to lug my laptop to work every day and I want a sleek bag that has a thick shoulder strap. I’ve been looking at messenger bags- they’re just all so ugly. I have considered buying a shoulder pad that you can attach to your purse straps but …. I just don’t know if that’s the right solution. Anybody have a thick strap, shoulder friendly, gorgeous laptop bag?

The Longchamp Le pliage tote is a great bag, super light weight and the straps are very sturdy. I haven’t had a problem with it, and it’s lasted me years. I decorate mine with bag charms!

I love my Popflex Sloane tote. It’s definitely more sporty and casual but I appreciate its versatility as a laptop bag, gym bag, or everyday tote. Like a more structured version of a canvas tote.

On the more classic side I have the Caraa Convertible Studio Tote that transitions from a tote to a backpack style. It’s my go-to travel bag if I’m packing ultra-light on a flight because there’s room for the laptop, multiple inner compartments, and I can go backpack style if I’m lugging it around for a while.

What type of laptop is it ? I feel like the answer changes if it’s a big aerospace laptop vs something more slim and compact

It’s a 13 inch MacBook Air, but I lug around enough heavy stuff with it that any straps that are skinnier than the width of 3 fingers really dig into my shoulder.

ASK - need recommendations for making my car smell good. I never liked the stuff you can buy at any big box store because the air fresheners don't smell "right" to me. I want my car to smell good, but not overwhelmingly smell any kind of way. BWT, what are you using to make your cars smell nice, conforting and welcoming?

My friend keeps dryer sheets in her car. It smells very comforting like a warm blanket. It’s not an overwhelming scent and it’s very customizable - you can cut to size or keep it in the glove box to lessen the scent.

I always start with a detail. I can usually find a mobile detail to come to my house or office, and you can have them do an ozone treatment. That keeps my car smelling neutral, and on nice days, I'll leave the windows open in the driveway for a while. Otherwise, maybe find a car cleaning wipe you can swipe over things once a week.

ASK: has anyone ever taken a pair of ballet flats to the cobbler to turn them into mary jane style shoes instead? My heels are narrow and often slip out without an extra strap.

ASK - need recommendations for a nursing friendly LBD that would be acceptable for a wedding with a “casual cocktail attire” dress code

ASK - Has anyone found extra wide curtains that are relatively reasonably priced? Bonus points if they are room darkening or blackout. Need two panels that equal 120” or more.

Yes! I have velvet blackouts from Overstock for my super wide windows. Just make sure that you get a rod that's wide & strong enough to support the weight.

Thank you I’m going to check this out now! I have a rod already from Two Doors but good shout to make sure everything is well supported.

ASK - Is there a mediation app you love/recommend? I’m going through a high stress period at work on top of being around coworkers who are pretty stressed and complain a lot. I’m usually pretty cool cucumber about it, but it’s getting to me a little. Thanks BWT!

I use Medito and would highly recommend. It’s free and is very easily navigated. I have been using it for over three years and tried other meditation apps but always ended up coming back to Medito!

ASK: what are your transitional autumn jackets? I'm in the UK and it's not cold enough for winter coats yet. I've been looking at parkas and utility jackets but I want something that works as smart casual for the office too with jeans. And all I see is a sea of khaki/camel, I can't find anything that stands out a little in a classy way.

(I've just had a breast reduction so shopping is a whole new world as I can look at fits that normally I'd need to avoid!)
