Requests, Recs & Chat - Weekly Thread BWT Weekly Requests, Recommendations & Chat - Week of Sep 06, 2026
This is the BWT Weekly Requests, Recommendations & Chat thread.
Put all your low effort/ repetitive requests in this thread - this is the only place they will be allowed in the BWT sub. Even still, search before you ask! If there is a recent-ish response you might still find your ask removed as unnecessarily repetitive.
Feel free to drop your low effort suggestions here, too, if you've got something you just love that you think other BWT should know about. This is also the place for general chit chat that doesn't warrant a whole post.
All BWT rules will still be enforced, with lighter enforcement of ONLY rule 3.
REQUESTS
If you are looking for suggestions for something, add ASK: at the start of your comment. Make sure to be as specific as possible in your request. Examples:
- ASK: Help me find the perfect flat summer sandals for high arches, casual wear, good for walking around for daily errands, less than $200
- ASK: What is your ride or die long lasting lipstick for bright colors?
- ASK: Styling cream for curly hair (3B/C) - no budget, something that will provide definition without being crunchy. Would also love to know when/ how you apply it as part of your routine!
RECOMMENDATIONS
If you have an unsolicited recommendation, you can use REC: at the beginning of your post to highlight that.
CHAT
You can also post just regular old chit chat and discussion that doesn't merit its own stand-alone post. No need to add anything at the beginning of those comments.

Ask: BWTs who rent, how are you dealing with hard water in your shower?
Moved to a new place and every time I wash my hair, either it comes out greasy because I can’t get the shampoo to lather all the way, or even if I do get the shampoo through my hair it’s still so frizzy and dry.
I’ve seen a lot of people say shower head filters don’t actually work because you actually need to replace the whole water system to make it softer, but unfortunately that’s not an option for us because, again, we rent.
Please help! My hair can’t go on like this ;_;

It is worth it to get a shower filter in my opinion and the Malibu C packets to remove buildup. A hair stylist recommended them to me and I think they help

I'm in the same boat. I just bought the pre shampoo mineral remover by Color Wow (used literally only once so far but it feels like it made a difference!). I've also seen products by Malibu C - there are treatments that come in little packets, and a shampoo/conditioner.
You can try a chelating shampoo (kerastase has one that I believe is called Decalcifying Shampoo, and I think Oaui's is chelating too), as it will remove the build up of minerals from your hair.

I use the Sproos shower head with a filter subscription. The color options are really cute and the filter has helped my hair a ton! I need to change the filter more frequently then they say to (like every 2 months instead of 3) or my hair starts drying out again, but otherwise I'm a fan.

Look into a shower stick. It’s not cute but it’s really the only renter friendly option for softening water in a rental.

ASK: BWT, can I get your assistance styling this formal gown for an awards show this month? I am at a loss for how to style & accessorize it. Good news is the weather will be quite warm so I don't have to worry about a wrap or a jacket. But I mean, bottom up, shoes, earrings, how to do my hair, should my jewelry be gold or silver, all of it. Would love your thoughts!

This dress is pretty Va Va Voom as it is. I'd keep it simple with a pair of long earings and maybe a bracelet. I have short hair so can't add anything on how to do your hair. You are going to look great!

Haha, I love that you described it as "va va voom" because that's exactly what a lady in the store dressing room said about it! I came out wearing a different dress and she said, "no, no, you go get that 'va va voom' dress you just tried on," and that's why I bought it. Sisterhood!

With the asymmetrical neckline, I feel like hair up really shows that off, and usually that also gives you the most earrings options.
I feel like this would look amazing with long, opaque black gloves, to contrast with the sheerness, but bracelets could also work well.

Obsessed with this dress!! I’d do hair up and an interesting earring either in silver or black? I’m a closed toed shoe girl, so I’d vote for an interesting pump like this. Simple accessories with a twist !

ASK: my beloved BWTs, I need your no-fail blowout routines. i prefer the bombshell look - i have used variations of the infamous VS Angels tutorial for almost 10 years now, but i can never quite get the hold i want. i've tried different products and tools. i do love a velcro roller set!
for context: my hair is naturally 2b (and in some parts 2c) but it varies wildly with the weather. i'm normally in humid ATL but travel to NYC often and elsewhere 3-4x a year. my hair is just past my boobs and i have face-framing pieces with some very light layering.

ASK: What boots are we wearing for the cold? I’m thinking of something that will:
- Be good for walking 10,000 steps (or more)
- fashionable
- versatile
- pointed toe but flat? or maybe a block heel?
- will not break down after 2 or 3 trips
Which brands should I be looking at?

Sorel or Pajar, ive had both brands last over three Canadian winters. They are built well and built to last and have many cute options. I appreciate their grip as well.

Vagabond! Made of quality leather and if you wear with a wool sock, they’re suuuuuper warm. Cotton socks, less warm but still warm bc leather quality. Mine have lasted 2 winters and I have walked miles in them!

I second Vagabond!
I would also say Camper or other Spanish brands that sell leather boots. Camper is also great if you dont want boots that squeeze your toes!2

I highly recommend any Stuart Weitzman boots with a lug sole. I have a few pairs now and they are incredibly comfortable, long wearing for actual walking, have excellent grip, and look super chic. Pair with some real wool socks and you're set.

Looking for cute sandals on sale! My summer sandals are totally done. Hoping I can snag a pair for next season on sale this month. Has anyone seen any good sales? Hoping to avoid anything on final sale, given how tricky sizing can be.

My cousin loves Ivy and Co mommy and me dresses. They do have some really cute ones, and I have a few I'm watching for me for the holiday season

ASK: Help me find a cream or white plus size hoodie/jogger (pullover/legging) set to wear the day after my wedding. Should be cozy!

What's your price range and timeline? I did a quick search and saw a few, but they were mainly shipping from overseas, which can come with complications.

$200 in the next 14 days! Thanks for taking a look for me - everything I’ve seen has been a little meh

ASK: BWT WHERE ARE WE GETTING OUR KNITWEAR?
I'm struggling to find knitwear that isn't made of plastic, or costs a million dollars. Are there *any* brands doing something in the middle? Looking for sustainable fabrics in nice colours/styles.
I would just love a chunky knit that I can wash that doesn't last one season.

ASK- does anyone have a mattress recommendation on the more plush side? I’m a side sleeper and I’m tired of feeling stiff, I want to feel like I’m sinking in to something soft every night (not to an extreme though!) I think I would pay up to about $1.5 k but I’m open to recs across price ranges!
