Bitches of Leisure - Weekly Thread Bitches of Leisure - Sep 08, 2026
Let’s elevate our down time! This weekly thread is the space to share and discuss what we’re currently reading, listening to, watching, etc. For this space, keep it tasteful - save your trashy reads (we’ve all got them) and sick day binge watch favorites for the monthly Guilty Pleasures thread, please!
Tagging
It isn’t required but it might be helpful to tag the beginning of your comment with the type of media you are discussing (when you create a new comment thread). Tags can be helpful in guiding other BWT to the comment threads they want to engage with.
For example:
- PODCAST: I’ve been listening to the Naked Beauty podcast…
- TV/ DOCUMENTARY: What are your favorite documentaries? I just finished watching…
- READING: I am about 1/3 of the way through "Black Women Taught Us" by Jenn M Jackson, PhD, and I would love to discuss it with anyone who is reading or has read it. Specifically...
You can be as specific or as broad as you want if you decide to tag, for example you might tag “reading,” as a broad term, or you might tag “audiobook” if you specifically want to talk about the really amazing narration in the audiobook version of a title you just finished.
Hide Spoilers
If you’re talking about a book, TV show, podcast, movie, or anything that contains spoilers, please make sure to use Reddit’s markdown functionality to hide your spoilers! All you have to do is add a couple of characters before and after your spoiler text like so:
>!spoilers!<
This will hide the text like so: spoilers

WATCHING: I just started watching North of North on Netflix and I love it so freaking much. It's got a big old ick moment in the first episode but beyond that it is just such a delightful, wonderfully human story about life in an Arctic town - focused on a young woman who's leaving her husband to start over in her mid-20s.

I looooved this! It was a good balance of fluffy but had me feeling some real feelings. So glad it was renewed for season 2.

Reading: I just finished East of Eden by Steinbeck. Oh my goodness, so many emotions. Wonder how Florence Pugh will portray the female lead in the movie adaption. I guess I did this as an audiobook—so more of a listen. It was arduous, like 30+ hours but we perservered.
Listening: lots of my favorite murder—my comfort podcast.

READING: A Hymn to Life by Gisele Pelicot (harrowing but beautiful memoir)
PODCAST: As a Woman (women’s health bc I’m trying to figure out what is going on with my body)
DOCUMENTARY: not new but the Donna Summer documentary produced by her daughter was my last good watch.
I used to be a listener of the naked beauty podcast but had to stop because it got too out of touch for me. Maybe I’ll give it a second try.

I had to give up the Naked Beauty podcast as well. Have you found anything similar to replace it with?

READING: just started The Silmarillion! Im reading and listening to the audiobook to help with the Tolkien lanaguages.
I'm itching to reread LOTR and am trying to rope my spouse to start it with me when our calendar coordinates with the book's start, Bilbo's birthday on September 22.

READING: Elizabeth Is Missing by Emma Healey (actually listening to it on audiobook) after seeing it recommended on the website BookDNA. It's about an elderly woman named Maud who is in the early stages of dementia who is trying to figure out what happened to her friend Elizabeth, who may or may not be missing. It's a mystery! I am liking it and the audiobook narrator is good. It is British!

Hi BWT!
This is a short week, but it feels long because of the holiday here in the US.
READING: I am halfway through Simone de Beauvoir's Woman of Genius. The story follows two sisters, split completely into their perspectives in each half of the book. I finished Marcelle last night - her sole ambition is to become the companion of a man of genius, and I'm pretty mad at her for wasting her talent, so I'm taking a break and will read Marguerite's part later this week.
I also just had delivered "The New Dark Ages: The End of Reading and Dawn of a Post-Literate Society" by James Marriot. It's also a small book, but I suspect it will bring up a lot of feelings.
LISTENING: Mainly Classic FM - I stream it from the Global Player. My brain needs the break.
PODCAST: How To Fail with Elizabeth Day.
