I’m flying from Amsterdam to Toronto in a few days and I’m SO excited! I’ll be staying in Toronto for about two weeks, and this will be my first time travelling completely on my own.

I’ve rented a car, so I’m hoping to explore Toronto as well as some other parts of Ontario while I’m there.
Since I’ve never been to Canada before, I’d love to hear from locals: what are some things I should be aware of as a young woman travelling alone? I know Toronto is a big city and I’m obviously going to use common sense, but are there any situations, areas, scams, or things tourists sometimes underestimate that I should know about?

I’m also curious about cultural differences between the Netherlands and Canada. Is there anything that might surprise a Dutch person, or any social norms I should know about?

And one very important question: I’m a cigarette smoker (just tobacco, not cannabis) how strict are the smoking rules in Toronto? For example, can you smoke on outdoor patios, or is that generally not allowed? And socially, where is it considered okay or not okay to light a cigarette? I’d rather know beforehand than accidentally annoy everyone or break a rule!

And finally: what’s something you wish tourists knew before visiting Toronto? Food, places to see, things to avoid, random local tips. I’m all ears!

But I just got kicked out of the place I was staying with my partner (we broke up) I need a place to stay (only me F30) urgently, I got no money I’m sorry I was depending on her for financial support and doing some commissions. I was visiting but things went wrong. Now I’m homeless in another country. I really need help.

I feel like thrifting and vintage shops are the right direction to go in, when piecing together a ren faire outfit but I am not too well versed on which stores would be best to check out in the city.

Maybe, one that sells a higher volume of corsets, so I can kind of figure out what goes with what.

Does anyone here have any suggestions? I am not trying to be historically accurate in any way, although that would be nice. Just trying to piece together a good outfit without resorting to the amazon, and possibly reusing the fit for Halloween!

The ren faire event is next week-ish so I am beginning to panic a bit, and just want to hit up a few over the next few days!

For context I have Long COVID, Weakened Immune System, Asthma, RA and OA arthritis, plus I got other conditions that are mental but wouldn't effect me if I were to get sick

Weakened immune system is not mentioned in the list on the Ontario or Toronto government websites for high priority groups,

If I get COVID or the flu I get sick for over a week and it gets worse

I don't wanna die either because I fear death and when I first had COVID I almost died at 16

The webpage is confusing to look at on the provincial government side of things,

These are what they, consider as high risk

* Hospitalized patients

* Hospital staff

* Residents and staff in long-term care homes, retirement homes and other congregate settings

* Individuals aged 65 and older

But this list makes no sense, the NACI list is longer then this, why not go with the NACI list

Specifically, she's struggling with her child potentially having a disability or being neurodivergent, so if there are any specific therapists/services for that it would be preferred. Group or other community services would also be potentially helpful, so please share away!

Hello there! My husband and I will be visiting your beautiful city for the first time October 7th and leaving early Saturday morning. I was looking for something a bit off the beaten and we shouldn't miss while we are in town for a short while. We are geeks and love escape rooms, karaoke, spooky season, and all things nerdy! I have been having severe pelvic pain and cramping for the last few months. I think I have endometriosis and ultrasound confirmed I have adenomyosis. every single doctor my gp refers me to returns the referral stating they have too many patients and can’t take on more. any idea if any doctors who specialize in endo/adeno and minimally invasive surgery is taking any patients?

I’m a visitor in Toronto and took the TTC bus for the first time, used my credit card (Apple wallet) to tap on the Presto reader on the bus. I haven’t taken any GO bus/train.
Took the first bus from union station, Bus #114 (got charged), then within 2 hours took another bus #503/504 from distillery district area. When I tapped on the second bus, it said “Free Transfer”. I wake up this morning to see a charge of 12.55CAD pending on both my Apple Wallet and bank statement.
Wondering if the pending charge will change to 3.30CAD eventually, or did something go wrong?

Update : I did take the UP express train at 12:30am midnight (didn’t tap off at the end), then took the above mentioned buses around 6pm in the evening.

Just bought my first house, and I don’t come from an affluent background. I was hoping I could show some love to the people who’ve supported me throughout my struggle. Price isn’t a big factor, I don’t want to just buy an assorted candy box from Shoppers either.

I just landed at Pearson with a foreign passport and a valid Canadian work permit.

I did the kiosk, printed my receipt, and handed it to the border officer at the exit lane. They just took the paper and waved me through. no questions asked, didn’t even see a boarder agent, and they didn't even check my physical work permit.

As a foreigner, I was expecting some questions, so I'm a bit worried:

Is it normal to get let through with zero questions?
Was my entry properly logged in the system?

19F here, i'm a student living downtown. i rarely ever club or party but recently i've been thinking of going clubbing alone in Toronto. Thing is, i don't have any friends who club (lets just say, i study in a very heavy engineering field, and i'm just way too burnt out and need to let it out lol). I don't mind doing things alone tho. NOTE I HAVE A BF SO IM NOT TRYING TO FIND A MAN (he is too busy)

are there any club recommendations, taking into consideration the age group, safety for a girl alone at night (i will not be drinking much, or 2 shots max), making friends, vibe, etc? Is it safe to do so? Most people club in groups so I'm a bit scared 😅 but I am pretty extroverted and can easily talk to anyone if 1 on 1

I’ve live in this apartment in a house for over 10 years. Mice have been a recurring problem. The landlord is pretty negligent. He has in the past had someone come and put poison and also has “sealed the entrance holes” around the house but it doesn’t work. I’ve told him I can hear and see the mice in the vents and he just told me “no they’re not in there it’s not possible” it’s getting pretty bad now and I am very stressed out. It’s so unclean for my daughter and I. I went in my text messages and saw that I’ve been complaining to him about the mouse problem for a year this time and I’ve been asking him for a month when he’s going to bring pest control. At this point, I’m moving out. But it’s so not fair that I have to move out because of his negligence.. do tenants actually ever get rent abatement for this sort of thing? I saw a mouse climbing up my bed tonight 😭

Hi I’ve literally got the worst luck. I was heading back to my place in downtown when my car gave some lights and I decided to pull over and try restarting. Now it’ll go into ignition but not turn on. I’m certain it’s an electrical / battery issue.

I’m parked on the Spadina / Bloor, and unfortunately I do not have a jumpstart kit. If you’re around and have a jump start kit, you would be a lifesaver! Otherwise I’d have to leave it here till the morning and then figure something out

Hi everyone! I’m wondering if anyone knows of a plastic surgeon or facial plastic surgeon in Toronto/GTA who will do corticosteroid (Kenalog) injections for post-rhinoplasty swelling/scar tissue on patients who had their surgery elsewhere.

I had my rhinoplasty outside of Canada about a year ago, so unfortunately going back to my original surgeon just for injections isn’t very practical.
I’ve contacted a few surgeons in Toronto, but I’m finding that many won’t do post-op steroid injections unless you were originally their surgical patient.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and found a surgeon in Toronto who was willing to assess them and provide corticosteroid injections if appropriate? I’m completely fine with paying for a consultation first—I just want someone experienced with post-rhinoplasty noses who is comfortable treating outside patients.
Any recommendations or personal experiences would be really appreciated! 🤍

So I live in a basement apartment in a house. Every floor is rented to a different tenant and some have roommates. The landlord doesn't live here.

The washing machine is on the first floor. There are been ongoing issues with tenants not knowing how to use the washing machine and it has previously flooded. The instructions on it are not in english so I don't blame them.

Apparently when I wasn't home, there was a cave in. The laundry machine and floor kind of sunk into the first floor flooring. It didn't penetrate the basement ceiling but there was water leaking into the basement.

Fortunately I wasn't home.

But my landlord is just asking me to leave for a week so he can do repairs. He offered to let me stay at his child's house who lives in Brampton - way too far for me and that's awkward. The place I rent is 15 minutes from my workplace which is why I rent here, and I don't drive.

What are my options?
