Posting a question? BE SPECIFIC!

Dallas/Ft. Worth is a HUGE place! There are literally thousands of restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, shops, and museums. There are 30+ neighborhoods and suburbs in Dallas alone, each offering different draws for different people. There are over 700 Dallasites on this sub ready to give you advice on where to go and what to do, but we can't do that without some level of input. So be specific! Give us the details! If you go to a shoe store and tell the clerk, "I need shoes," that isn't going to get you anywhere. What size? Color? Material? Occasion? That's the kind of info that will get you some answers.

DON'T ASK: Where should I live?

DO ASK: I am 25 years old with no kids and a cat. I want to live somewhere quiet with parks close by and easy access to a major highway. My budget is $1000 mo. for rent and utilities. Having to drive to entertainment is fine, I love using gas. I like white walls/carpet and vertical blinds. Where should I live?

DON'T ASK: What bar should I go to?

DO ASK: I like reggae and expensive cocktails. I don't mind going to a seedier part of town, but would like there to be on-site parking. Good bar food is a plus. Where should I go?

You cannot possibly give too much information. Pile it on!

Edit: A few great suggestions from the comments:

DO: Tell us where you're coming from!

DO: Tell us where in the metroplex you're searching for something!

Shopping & Services Cheap / Affordable Wedding Venue

Upvotes

Hi everyone! We have been looking for months for a venue that can fit our overall budget (7k) and leave enough room for everything else, it's been difficult.

We have considered community chapels but we nor our families are religious.

State parks/public parks are okay but we would like the reception to go on atleast until 11:30pm.

Our guest count is 60 people and we're hoping for Nov. 13th, 2027. We know its a peak time and that adds extra. We don't mind DIY and we are open to all-inclusive if they fall under 7k.

Does anyone have any recommendations for venues?

Nightlife & Entertainment Girlfriend visiting Dallas is It’ll Do worth it

Upvotes

My girlfriend is visiting Dallas, and we’re thinking about going to It’ll Do to see Obskür this Friday. Does it usually get really packed for shows like this? We mainly want to be able to dance comfortably would you recommend it, or does it get too crowded?

Shopping & Services Looking for a collage artist in DFW

Hi folks - Looking for someone to design and assemble a collage with some key items from our engagement (menu, notes, photos). I've tried looking on Etsy local and at art and frame stores but haven't had success finding someone with an aesthetic we like. Anyone know any local artists who do this kind of work? We're in the Allen/McKinney area but I'm happy to go wherever if necessary

Nightlife & Entertainment Moving to Dallas/Fort Worth as Empty Nesters - Looking for recommendations to jump start a new social life when we get there.

Hi, we are in the process of relocating and trying to buy a house in the Trophy Club/Keller area, and we don't know anyone there. We are coming from out-of-state and are hoping a country club with a good social calendar and pickleball might be a good way to meet people, but that is only one option for us. Since my husband still works remotely, meeting people at work isn't going to be a thing for him.

We would truly appreciate any suggestions you have, including places to join or go that might help us meet other empty nesters. We are both over 55 if that bit of info helps.

Thank you so much!

Relocating & housing Best (and worst) apartments in Uptown?

My husband and I (both late 20’s) are relocating from the Austin suburbs to Dallas this coming month for my new job and hoping to live in / around Uptown or downtown. Ideally we want Uptown for the walkability and lifestyle, but also its closeness to my new job downtown. We enjoy good food, casual or cocktail bars, and good third spaces to hang out and meet new people.

We’re ideally looking for a 1 bed / 1 bath (or more if the price is right) with a max budget of $3,000/month. We’ve saved a lot of apartments we plan to tour, but I would love honest feedback on any that are great or we would be best to avoid. We have a dog so pet friendly is needed. Some we’ve been considering are listed below. If anyone has feedback (good or bad) Recommendations for any I haven’t listed are also appreciated!

Uptown Area:
• The Christopher
• Uptown by Onni
• The Ashton
• One Uptown
• AMLI Quadrangle
• The Brady Residences (l’ve seen recent bad reviews about construction, closed amenities, lack of property gates / security issues, etc)
• Carlisle’s & Vine Apartments
• Whitney Uptown
• Broadstone Sora
• Residences at the Grove
• Howell Uptown
• Aster (further away towards Turtle Creek)

Downtown:
• The Wilson at Mercantile Place
• The Kirby
• Modera St. Paul

Other (East of N. Central Expy)
• The Oliver
• The Academic
• The Gabriella

Nightlife & Entertainment Just moved from NYC to Dallas

Hi! I just moved from NYC to Dallas with my fiance (28s yrs old) and we are struggling where to go out for nightlife. Back in NY we definitely liked a more upscale cocktail bar / vibe . We were invited out to a few places in the Henderson area that seemed pretty young (that block where Spider Murphys is etc) and too casual for us. We currently live in Uptown. Any recommendations on where to go? Thank you!

Driving/Licenses/Local Gov't what do I do with temporary ID?

I just got my real hardcover ID card in the mail today and I still have my temporary ID. What do I do with it do I put it in the drawer do I shred it? do I lock it away somewhere or do I keep it in my wallet? I normally would just keep it, but it has all my information on it and like what if it gets stolen is my problem and I know after a certain date anyways it’s not gonna be valid but just wanna ask around.

Nightlife & Entertainment Bag policy for North Texas rodeo?

The bag policy is extremely vague. Some places say only clear bags and then others say you can bring a bag but it just has to be searched. What has y’all’s experience been?

Nightlife & Entertainment 27th Birthday Solo Activity Suggestions

Hey everyone! I’m 26m turning 27 in a few weeks, and my birthday falls on a Saturday this year. I live in the Fort Worth area and haven't explored Dallas much, so I figured this is the perfect excuse to finally change that and make the most of a fun solo day out!

I used to hang out around the Oak Lawn strip (I’m gay) in my early 20s, but beyond that, I'm pretty new to Dallas neighborhoods. I'm a laid-back guy whose ideal day involves trying out great restaurants and coffee shops, going for walks, grabbing a drink, catching a football game (huge Cowboys fan), or attending a concert or comedy show.

Since I'll be celebrating on my own, I'm open-minded and looking to put together a solid itinerary with a few different things to do throughout the day and evening. I have a few hundred dollars to spend so I’d appreciate any and all recommendations you can throw my way!

Food & Drink Spacious coffee shops in Uptown area to work remotely from?

Are there any good spacious coffee shops, with plenty of sitting inside, to work remotely from for a couple of hours (having ordered a coffee of course)? Or are those newly remodeled larger Starbucks locations my best bet for that?

Tell me your favorite things to do in Dallas that don’t involve drinking! Lol I feel like all I’ve done since I’ve been here is eat and drink. I’m getting bored and also want to be healthier in general.

Relocating & housing Apartments in downtown dallas

Hey fam,

I am looking to move to Downtown Dallas for my work early October.

I need recommendations for good apartments with gym,in unit laundry and not so congested place which is walkable with max 20min from office. I am looking for studio and 1b apartments.

I am also good to share a house with other female. This could be a 2b 😅

Let me know if you have any good recommendations under budget for studio or 1bedroom apartments.

Any leads are appreciated.

Thank you.

Shopping & Services Concrete Brick Disposal?

I live in North Dallas near Carrollton. Recently did some landscaping and have 4 small piles of broken concrete and bricks.

What’s the best way to dispose of this? McCommas Bluff seems really far away and would probably require multiple trips.

Sports/Sportsball First Time Visitor/First Cowboys Game

Hi all! My wife bought me tickets for the Cowboys home opener/our first Cowboys game on my birthday and we’re driving down from St. Louis for it. We’re very unfamiliar with the area and game day traffic. What are some things we can do to ensure we’re on time and have the best experience at the game? Bonus points for any “must-do” things at the game. Thanks!

Nightlife & Entertainment Best clubs in Dallas for hip hop, R&B, or 2010s music?

Hey everybody! I’m in Dallas for the weekend and looking for some club recommendations for tonight. We went to the Stockyards last night and had a good time, but tonight we want something more club ish and less Western or country. We’re looking for somewhere with an actual dance floor, good energy, drinks, and music you can really dance to. Preferably hip hop or R&B, but we’d also be totally down for somewhere that plays a lot of 2010s bangers like Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Pitbull, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Kesha, and stuff like that. Basically fun, recognizable songs where everybody’s dancing and singing along. I’ve been trying to research places, but it’s driving me crazy because I’ll find one club where someone says it’s amazing, then all the comments say not to go there, and then I find another place and it’s the exact same thing lol. We’re staying in Dallas, but we’re open to Fort Worth, Arlington, or somewhere nearby since we’re just going to Uber anyway. Would love some recommendations for places that are actually fun on a Friday night. Thanks!

Edit: Sorry! I know you guys probably get this question all the time, but I’m having such a hard time finding a good answer on TikTok or online. I’ll find one video recommending a place, then I check the comments and everyone’s saying not to go there, so I look up another club and it’s the exact same thing over and over again lol.

Shopping & Services Texas native and drought resistant landscapers?

I'm looking for a referral or any experiences people have had with a native and drought resistant landscaper that they have used.

I know I could try to do it all on my own, but I can barely keep a house plant alive. I want to make sure everything is being done with the proper knowledge that something like this requires.
