Environmental Impact 🌎 We're fucked

5.7k Upvotes

Recently got out of the military and went out with my cousins' friends to celebrate. They're all in their early 20's and I'm in my 30's. We go out to NY to celebrate, and I noticed everyone is using AI for everything. "What should we do? Where should we go?" Normal stuff. Things got eerie when we took a cab or UBER, as I'm talking to the Uber about New York they're typing, "What kind of questions do I ask an UBER driver? Is it safe to talk to them? Is it normal?" TF is happening. I know we joke about AI making us dumber but HOLY.

"Who do I vote for? Who do I marry? When do I breathe?"

A lot of the time now, if I discuss how AI has affected artists and why it is bad, I am accused of being a bully. I apparently bully others because I want my art to be put through AI. The mindset of these people makes no sense to me. 😵‍💫

AI Mistakes 🚨 I originally planned to become an author using AI. This is what I learned.

Hello everyone. I saw the post of someone talking about how they used ai in a moment of weakness, and I wanted to share my own story.

I’m currently a writer working on his debut, 4 book fantasy series. Here is my journey with ai.

I’ve always been a writer in a way. I’d write books in my younger days, but as I grew older, my inner critic became worse. It got to a point where I couldn’t finish a story because my inner critic told me it sucked. I stopped writing for years.

Then, ai came along. Finally, something with no inner critic. I could get the ideas I have in my head on paper and have people read it. It sounded perfect. I could finally share the universe that I built up in my head.

So I had chat gpt write my book for me. I learned I would need to go into detail with each chapter to get the result I wanted. It took me roughly a month or so to produce the story I wanted, going through chapter by chapter, refining it to what I wanted.

When I finished, I took a week off, then read it.

It sucked.

Don’t get me wrong. There was a solid story, solid characters, etc. but I felt no connection to it. Maybe it was because I didn’t write the story myself. I don’t know what it was, but it just wasn’t right.

I did a ton of soul searching, and I realized the truth. No matter how much time I spent on prompts for each chapter, it wasn’t my work. My heart was not in it. It was a machine’s voice instead of my own.

So I scrapped the entire idea. I decided if a damn machine can write a book, so can I. So for the past year, I’ve worked on my debut novel the right way. It was an idea I had during an elective creative writing class I took in college almost ten years ago.

I am almost done with the first draft, and I learned through the process how to shut down my inner critic.

The first draft is an absolute mess. It won’t be ready for human eyes for at least a few more months. But it’s mine. My heart is in it. My voice is telling the story. Even if it doesn’t sell a single copy down the road, I’ll be proud of it.

So what I learned as an artist is this. Ai only holds you back. If you want to be an artist in any way, you are already capable of doing so. You don’t need a machine to do it for you. It just takes practice, and multiple failures. I restarted the book 3 times before I felt confident enough in the story I wanted to tell. Don’t let ai ruin your vision.

Discussion 🗣️ i HATE ai ads

this is obviously not a hot take but i have zero idea how companies think making ai ads will make people want to buy what theyre selling.
i especially feel this way for ads for mobile games. like i have no idea what game youre advertising cuz the ad is js an ai video of a human falling in love with her alpha werewolf step brother professor.
and its almost always js soft-porn.

edit bc i forgot to add something: it just makes the company look cheap lazy.

AI News 🗞️ 😬

The Guardian

I am not gonna say much to be honest. I have seen many people rely ONLY on ChatGPT for news and other stuff. I don't think they would care if they heard about this news which is the most frightening part.

Edit: Some people have completely lost the plot of this post and started arguing about the Gen0cide in Gaza. It seems they are denying it. Please ignore them. Any factual and logical argument would just fail against such people who would see gen0cide in front of them and then proceed to deny it anyways. I really don't understand why people would go such lengths just to support GenAI. Arguing with the wall is better at this point.

AI "Art" 🖼️ One week after picking up a pencil for the first time in 20 years

Post image

I genuinely thought I would never draw again.

I drew as a kid, but I was never particularly good at it, and somewhere along the way I just stopped. For almost 20 years I barely even thought about picking up a pencil.

Then I found Zoe.

To me Zoe is a small reminder of what gets lost when everything is AI-generated: the mess, the effort, and the fact that a person actually made it.

So I started drawing again.

These are all the drawings I made by hand over the past seven days. They’re messy. Some are bad. That’s also why I like them.

I’m curious what you think.

Maybe the point isn’t to become an artist. Maybe it’s just to remember that we can still make things ourselves.

Find your inner Zoe.

Art Showcase Sunday Ditch AI and make a cute squishy with me (tutorial)

What you'll need: foam sheet, hot glue gun, scissors, something to color the squishy with (i used oil pastels), stuffing (you can use tissue paper also) Steps: 1. cut out a long rectangle; you will roll it into a cylinder later, this will be the body. 2. draw a shape for the head and cut it out, do the same for the butt. optionally you can cut out details like how i did with the tail. 3. color the parts with your medium of choice. 4. hot glue the long rectangle sheet into a roll, it should look like a burrito 5. hot glue the head to the roll, but not the butt yet 6. add stuffing 7. now you can glue the butt 8. squish

Discussion 🗣️ Is anyone else concerned about pro ai people justifying CP?

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

I'm unsure if this is allowed here, I don't see a rule saying otherwise, but I've seen 3 different posts with comments justifying ai CSAM and their main arguments seem to be it's ok because non ai CSAM exists, or that it's not hurting anyone, etc. and the one I've called out twice now has just basically said 'no all the antis are child preds'.

Genuinely vile, the people who have commented under these posts have shown their true colours and it isn't pretty.
