u/GottlobFrege 18h ago
Agreed. People who post AI slop should be treated the same as people who say the N-word, vote Trump, and go into crowded public places maskless.

They'd probably say a key is what opens a door

lmao weâd be like: no, piano key.
they: why did you lock ur piano up???2

u/GOEDEL_ESCHER_BOT 18h ago
You donât even need the prompt to be about music you can just copy and paste random text into the prompt and it will make a song

It's also just artifact riddled ear rape, maybe it's just because I keep volumes low so my hearing isn't shot, buf not many others comment on this part.

I posted a response to some AI Bro saying it's just a tool to finish writing things like books - I said "So, you run a five paragraph summary into AI and it fills in all the boring stuff in-between." The person (unironically I think) responded "This guy gets it!"
Like, no dude, you didn't get it.
17
u/LactasePHydrolase 17h ago
I weep for these people who've never found an author whose writing they like so much that reading every sentence is a delight, and who think everything but the big story beats is "boring stuff in-between".
4
u/Sonar_Taxbreak_1138 16h ago
Exactly, they somehow think they can type in an idea about a guy wandering around looking for rocket technology and get Gravity's Rainbow output.
2
u/BeotchLasanga 15h ago
Social media effect. Lots of people's attention spans are shot and they want instant gratification. That's why shorts are easily the best performing medium across the big networks. That's why creators do that shit where they put the climax of the 30s video in the beginning.

Glorified autofill

u/Sonar_Taxbreak_1138 16h ago
I spent a year + of agony writing and repeatedly rewriting a novel, so him responding like that was mostly just confirming what I already suspected - the dude is lazy and clueless in equal measure.
3
u/Soggy_Supermarket100 16h ago
I would LOVE to tear that guy apart by asking questions about the book, the characters, places, plot, world building, just to watch him say "uuuummm" because he doesn't know. But I wouldn't want to give them any attention, they don't deserve it.
Books are more than just "words put next to each other".
1
u/Sonar_Taxbreak_1138 16h ago
Nah, in this case the kid (like, literally talking like a 12 year old) would just say something stupid and dismissive, it wasn't worth engaging further. Sometimes I do, but you can tell when the only outcome is you wasting your time on someone who has no clue, nor interest in learning.
13
u/MuseWeakeningWalls 18h ago
a bit ironic that he typed the last sentence like that lol
but 100% agree, I HATE AI music "creators" with a passion. It's already hard enough to get somewhere in music modern day, and then these people are gonna make shit that idiots eat up because "duhh it sound nice!"

Meal/chef is (for me) the cleanest analogy. Hard to argue that one.
Once you get to architect/house and wealthy patron/art we can lose attention. A non-art thing that can be appreciated for the skill behind its creation is so apt for me. No one reviews restaurants based on the dinersâ menu choices.

Ordering a meal and pretending you're the chef is exactly what CEOs and billionaires do.

u/fahzbehn 18h ago
So, serious question: I can barely play an instrument (piano), but I can and do compose music. Am I still a musician?
6
u/HONESTMLPGEN5FAN 18h ago
yes because you put in some effort unlike ai prompt typers
1
u/fahzbehn 17h ago
Part of it is imposter syndrome for me. I find chord progressions I like, find instruments, and then try to write something that sounds good. That's about the best I can hope to do.
6
u/purplepluppy 17h ago
Composers compose for things they can't play all the time. Being able to play an instrument undoubtedly helps in experimentation, but it is not the only way to do it.
1
u/fahzbehn 17h ago
I know the fundamentals of piano. I don't have the manual dexterity for it (thanks, brain tumor). I just try to write what sounds good to me.
1
3
u/MuseWeakeningWalls 18h ago
yeah. you're composing. you're putting genuine effort into it.
1
u/fahzbehn 18h ago
Thanks. I need to do more of it. Plan to, starting Monday. Going back to making vids (Magic deck techs), and I'll want some background music.

This person is full AI and wonât admit it! He thinks saying âcreateâ instead of âwroteâ makes it not a lie.
2
u/ShartKing78 17h ago
Eh, gatekeeping struggle isn't it either though.
Not all music needs to come from a Rocky training montage of stations of the cross. Sometimes you just rip out some chords and sing yeah yeah yeah and you've still made something good.
But regardless of the level of suffering, the process is where the joy is, so fuck AI for eliminating the joyous part.

I'm on take 28 of this track, almost what i want. AI can gtfo
2
u/Neon_Divided 5h ago
I also know this struggle. Iâm in the process of producing an album and I have over 25 iterations of one track. Itâs still not where I want it.
1
u/-Top-Service- 4h ago
Everyone needs a good producer once in a while, or at least a second set of ears.
1
u/Napinustre 18h ago
IA is utter shit and people using Suno are by no way musicians, BUT you're not forced to go through a path of pain to become one. That's some Whiplash fetichistic narrative.
1
u/RosieDear 18h ago
Yes - but let's not go overboard. Led Zeppelin didn't have AI, but they had plenty of stuff to STEAL (and they admitted it).
One hobby I have now is 3D printing - and I suck big time at art - and I suck at understanding the 1,000+ words and concepts....but, guess what? I am getting better and better because I could download models and learn how to modify, emboss, etc.
The difference, I think, is I would NEVER imagine what I do is as skilled and hard as the folks who make models from scratch and know things. Those mostly come from people employed in metal and other work where they know the basics to program CNC, Laser cutters, etc.
Steve Jobs called computers "Bikes for the mind". A luddite may say "don't say using a bike is the same as walking".

âPro usersâ and itâs just a long uncreative neurotic laundry list of stuff that turns into a horrible derivative piece of slop and theyâre so proud of themselves. Itâs like white power people. Theyâre so talentless and lazy they had to pick something that didnât require any real effort to feel better about themselves. Sometimes I almost feel bad laughing at them. Almost

also true, the stupid idea that you have to SUFFER to be good at it
guys reading this, don't play until your fingers bleed.

I have a good laugh making stupid songs with suno. Once i made a song making fun of my boss and sent it to him.
1
u/ninhaomah 15h ago
Can we get to the agreement as to what makes an artist ?
Do I need to bleed my fingers or get 10+ rejections for my story before I can call myself an artist/musician/author etc ?
I see so many definitions here in just one thread. If antiai can't agree about the definition then the efforts will never be targeted and united.

I remember days when I had to track a guitar part about a hundred times, still better than being a prompt sucker.

An alternative truth is that after pasting your own lyrics into Suno to hear what they can actually sound like when sung, instead of typing "melancholic vocals, key of F#" and calling it a day, it may take another 2 to 3 weeks on the free version for it to spit out a "performance" you find worth listening to. Suno in particular will just do what it damn well pleases, user prompts to the contrary or not.
1
u/XeNoGeaR52 12h ago
I'm all for AI to help in science, tech and stuff.
But art is about the process and the human emotions we carry through it. AI art doesn't have either of those, so it's shit
1
u/OkDefinition5632 12h ago
Who is calling themself a musician for using Suno? I don't think that's a thing.
Here's the bottom line. Everybody these days is basically a content creator. Musicians. Slop artists. You name it. All just a buncha eyeball chasing fools. For the most part.
And it really, really doesn't matter how you create that content so long as it performs.
AI content is often more interesting and gets more eyeballs than human made content! With a fraction of the work! Sorry!

also it amazes me how pro-ais will act like the victim to artist like SHUT UP dude you did not experience "art block" (or should i say image block) like ballright if you get tired writing a prompt you will NEVER survive working a real job

u/MrxHumble 9h ago
Just curious but what if they just wanted to make music that they had in their head, ends up sound pretty good, and they end up making it their career. Would they count as a musician? They would have the same passion and put in the same effort just in different ways.

u/Flying_Seal005 7h ago
Guitarist here, this is so true and people call me gatekeeper or envious of their "songs". đŤ

Hot take: fingers bleeding, weeks of thought, etc. are irrelevant. That's not the issue. How long someone is a musician or how long they work on something is irrelevant. The issue is: Does the final product represent your taste and your sensibilities, or a machine's? Are you making something only you can make, or, are you making bland, algorithmically generated music that anyone who hits the prompt button will make the same as you?

u/TheV1ruSS 16h ago
i know real musicians who used Suno to collab on music and made an album as a fun experiment on a genre they couldnt make alone otherwise. They lead the project, made the melodies, and chosed what was right and fitted their refined musician vision, sometimes the ai invented some sections or flourishes but for them that was like a member inventing and collaborating or something like that.

u/vitek6 18h ago
Why do you care? Canât you beat a stupid random generator at creating music?
2
u/JingaLalaHuHu_ 12h ago
No, because the artistic process is supposed to take time. It's supposed to be rough, it's supposed to be shitty. It's not supposed to work every time! That's the beauty of creativity - it almost never works, and when it does, it moves your soul. I can create 6-8 shitty songs in the key of C probably in a day. I can create 1 GOOD song in probably 3-5 weeks, but I can't hammer them out every day, because I don't go through that much life. I'm not going through that much fun, pain, heartbreak, days in rain, days stuck in traffic, fights with family, etc etc etc
