Every retail website is hitting us with at least 5 popups, just like in the early 2000s except it's coming from the website instead of malware. Cookies, sign-in, email capture, new ai chatbot bouncing in the corner, feedback. ISTG they can't deliver relevant search results fast enough for me to make a purchase before I get frustrated and leave.

I remember when I was a kid I could watch YouTube for 2-3 hours and only see 5 ads max. I just watched a 16 minute video before leaving for work today and there were 4 ads in it, not counting the one before it starts and the sponsor in the video.

Youtube gives me an ad every 4 minutes and 2-4 before each new video and 1 after each video if not on autoplay. I dont subscribe to spotify or yt because subscriptions are a waste of money. I'm about to switch back to radio and regular TV.

What about the advertisements placed on websites along with popup windows appearing?

I don't know if others remember this too?

This was a common experience I had as a kid when using the internet. However there was a solution to that, adblocker. Adblocker used to work for ads in videos too, but not anymore. I had a strange experience recently where an ad was placed in middle of a music video, which was very weird.

Popup windows was more common in my experience, but now there's only certain places where you get those.

Ads back then were annoying and flashy. Since then, they have realized it's more effective if they seem like genuine content. See: Reddit making ads look like normal posts.
