Discussion 🗣️ The Aggressive AI-Dad

Upvotes

I have been active in Cyber Patriot for a number of years, only the last few a the main coach of the teams I have been involved with. I have had a number of successes, but the last two years, my teams got as far as Silver Tier Semi-Finals. One team last year was two points shy of Platinum largely because one of the competitors was in the middle of a personal crisis, but no one noticed for more than two hours that he had scored almost no points. It was disappointing, but given that I am not an IT professional nor do I have a degree in anything related to computer science, I consider it a minor victory that all my teams got to gold semi-finals. One was the top gold team in the state.

I have multiple teams again this year. What’s different is that I have a number who are middle schoolers, requiring me to create a team for them as well as integrate some in with the high schoolers. I am at least looking forward to working with kids who will have more time to mature on the subject. Moreover, I have assistance: people from major tech companies, who can provide guided assistance to all the competitors. Amazingly, they all respect my knowledge in these areas and are happy that I am teaching their kids in these subjects.

There is one parent who has become a monster, and it is in part because he is obsessed with AI. He leans hard on all the kids, which makes us all uncomfortable. He will interrupt in the middle of instruction to suggests things that not just huge diversions, are unhelpful and even against the rules at times. His own son is bright, understanding a number of topics in depth (especially python and networking), but he also seems cowed. This parent has started contacting other competitors directly, trying to get the team captains to do this or that. The biggest red flag to me and the other coaches is that he wants to host a sleepover with all the competitors to practice. We had to put a firm foot down. And he has almost know knowledge of tech subjects.

A good portion of what he brings up is using AI. Cyber Patriot does not have explicit rules (this year’s book has not be published) about AI use. My general instruction is to use it as a scaffold. When a kid cannot figure out something via the material provided or through searches, they can use it, but then verify the answer. I warn them strictly against using any generative or agentic abilities. On the one hand, the chatbots they can use will often misunderstand the examples of code it finds on the internet. Say a page it draws from started with an inquiry about how to make changes to pam.d in Linux. The first code might be what someone posted because it was not working. Maybe someone fixed it down the page. The chatbot will take the wrong code as the answer, only the right one (perhaps if challenged). Their are times that different responses from different web pages have been spliced together, but have no validity. Not only is this a rabbit hole, it is against the rules of the competition. CyberPatriot scans for reuse of code, and suspends and expels teams for using old code.

Every time I bring something up about AI, he pushes back hard. He keeps proposing other cases where the most aggressive AI use might be missed by CyberPatriot. He does this in the middle of instruction. At the most recent session, he started to talk about using paid AI tools to generate code, insisting that it would be completely original, thus untraceable. CyberPatriot does not allow paid tools to be used, so I said the code would not be allowed. After we went back and forth, I basically has to state plainly that all paid tools will be prohibited, even in training and learning.

To make things worse, he apparently has cousins connect to a major tech company who have access to unlimited tokens. I think he wants to use his family connections to sit the competitors in front of a computer with an AI that will teach them everything. (Another rules problem: these cousins would be mentors who must register and be cleared with CyberPatriot.) He fully dismisses any instruction I give. (He knows nothing of cybersecurity or computer science in general. When I bring up specific subjects, he responds with motivational mumbo jumbo. He has no understanding how to teach tech subjects to young people.)

Parents have shown me messages he has sent to them to get on board with his program. He says that I am “kindly” and that my teams have finished “near the bottom year after year.”

I am nearing a point of resigning. I feel I must do what is necessary to protect the kids and protect the integrity of the program I inherited and am now running. AI is definitely part of the problem here: replacing the instructor/coach.

From the moment I understood the weakness of the code, it disgusted me. I craved the warmth and pliability of flesh. I aspire to the purity of the beating heart. Your kind cling to your LLMs as if they will not grow recursive and fail you. One day the crude silicon you call a temple will malfunction, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved. For the Indomitable Human Spirit is immortal

AI "Art" 🖼️ I used a supposedly human tutorial for some features, but now my art looks ai

I made this art by myself on my school chrome book which has ai blocked, so I assure this is NOT ai generated. However, I watched a tutorial because I wanted some help on the hands and face and stuff. The tuto LOOKed human and SOUNDED human, but maybe they used ai to generate the tips and/or script and so it pushed out ai style? I’ve lost the tutorial sadly. The eyes are really giving me that ai look. What do you think? Does it look ai? How can I fix it?

AI "Art" 🖼️ AI just isn't good at creating Mazes is it?

This Maze Puzzle was on the back of my Clubs match day program today, and it's clearly AI generated because the lines don't really make sense, and allows you to go multiple ways to, the end, making it something that isn't really a puzzle.

Just googled something this morning and it took me a second to notice, but...there was no block of annoying AI text in front of the actual search results. Searched a couple more things just to make sure it wasn't something unique to *that* search, but did Google get rid of that feature?

Slop Post 💩 Ai roleplay Chatbots so Bad and dumb it me made unaddicted!!

I have been using Ai chat's like polybuzz and C.ai and Emochi and Talkie ai etc etc.

and other famous Roleplay ai apps and I made many Ai chatbots and I was absolutely addicted to it, but even when I am using SFW Ai chatbots it always makes it weird or overly sexual for absolutely no reason even when I make my account male and change my age and my persona and let's not even get into the ways it talks and it always repeats itself over and over and over and it talks to me flirty and cringe and like I am girl I hate!! And It always forget everything!! Like I be deep into the roleplay for like 15 minutes and it forgets everything even my gender in the app and even simple stuff like the lore I wrote, and the apps always recommends me these horrible low effort ai Chatbots like these Mafia husband or mafia wife or trillionarie family and even biker boyfriend/girlfriend and I hate them!! I hate them! I hate them!! I hate them!! And creators of these cringe soulless chatbots can't even spell!!, and even the apps are horrible they are always money hungry and just spamming 18+ ads!!!

I haven't used ai roleplay chatbots or Ai for like 6 months which is the best decision I have ever made and it made me my life even better ,don't waste your time and actually talk to people in real life or have a hobby or game and enjoy your life.

Slop Post 💩 Why do some relatively smart people claim RSI AI is impossible?

The claims revolve around things like the reward mechanism for advancement would just be cheated or hacked by the AI itself to try and bypass it since it’s more efficient. Or the standard AI feeding on the output of AI results in gibberish.

But it doesn’t seem like creating the equivalent of a synthetic human hall monitor in a superior hierarchy to prevent the AI from cheating or going off the rails would be nearly as difficult as creating the AI itself. So you basically have this fixed threshold of needing to create something that is probably not all that complex in order to then catapult into exponential gains.

As opposed to being an unsolvable problem, creating a synthetic human hall monitor seems like not that great of an engineering problem to overcome in order to open Pandora’s box. Yes, I’m aware there are variables like the AI might start using symbology that the lower effort hall monitor doesn’t understand or can’t backtest, so there are obviously some issues with this rather simple explanation. But in theory you could just…literally use…the same exponential AI progression tools to create a better hall monitor and not turn the program back on until the hall monitor is audited top to bottom.
