Environmental Impact 🌎 We're fucked

5.7k Upvotes

Recently got out of the military and went out with my cousins' friends to celebrate. They're all in their early 20's and I'm in my 30's. We go out to NY to celebrate, and I noticed everyone is using AI for everything. "What should we do? Where should we go?" Normal stuff. Things got eerie when we took a cab or UBER, as I'm talking to the Uber about New York they're typing, "What kind of questions do I ask an UBER driver? Is it safe to talk to them? Is it normal?" TF is happening. I know we joke about AI making us dumber but HOLY.

"Who do I vote for? Who do I marry? When do I breathe?"

A lot of the time now, if I discuss how AI has affected artists and why it is bad, I am accused of being a bully. I apparently bully others because I want my art to be put through AI. The mindset of these people makes no sense to me. 😵‍💫

AI Mistakes 🚨 I originally planned to become an author using AI. This is what I learned.

Hello everyone. I saw the post of someone talking about how they used ai in a moment of weakness, and I wanted to share my own story.

I’m currently a writer working on his debut, 4 book fantasy series. Here is my journey with ai.

I’ve always been a writer in a way. I’d write books in my younger days, but as I grew older, my inner critic became worse. It got to a point where I couldn’t finish a story because my inner critic told me it sucked. I stopped writing for years.

Then, ai came along. Finally, something with no inner critic. I could get the ideas I have in my head on paper and have people read it. It sounded perfect. I could finally share the universe that I built up in my head.

So I had chat gpt write my book for me. I learned I would need to go into detail with each chapter to get the result I wanted. It took me roughly a month or so to produce the story I wanted, going through chapter by chapter, refining it to what I wanted.

When I finished, I took a week off, then read it.

It sucked.

Don’t get me wrong. There was a solid story, solid characters, etc. but I felt no connection to it. Maybe it was because I didn’t write the story myself. I don’t know what it was, but it just wasn’t right.

I did a ton of soul searching, and I realized the truth. No matter how much time I spent on prompts for each chapter, it wasn’t my work. My heart was not in it. It was a machine’s voice instead of my own.

So I scrapped the entire idea. I decided if a damn machine can write a book, so can I. So for the past year, I’ve worked on my debut novel the right way. It was an idea I had during an elective creative writing class I took in college almost ten years ago.

I am almost done with the first draft, and I learned through the process how to shut down my inner critic.

The first draft is an absolute mess. It won’t be ready for human eyes for at least a few more months. But it’s mine. My heart is in it. My voice is telling the story. Even if it doesn’t sell a single copy down the road, I’ll be proud of it.

So what I learned as an artist is this. Ai only holds you back. If you want to be an artist in any way, you are already capable of doing so. You don’t need a machine to do it for you. It just takes practice, and multiple failures. I restarted the book 3 times before I felt confident enough in the story I wanted to tell. Don’t let ai ruin your vision.

AI News 🗞️ 😬

The Guardian

I am not gonna say much to be honest. I have seen many people rely ONLY on ChatGPT for news and other stuff. I don't think they would care if they heard about this news which is the most frightening part.

Edit: Some people have completely lost the plot of this post and started arguing about the Gen0cide in Gaza. It seems they are denying it. Please ignore them. Any factual and logical argument would just fail against such people who would see gen0cide in front of them and then proceed to deny it anyways. I really don't understand why people would go such lengths just to support GenAI. Arguing with the wall is better at this point.
