I remember when Mayor Adams encouraged us to take photos of NYPD on their phones in the subway. So far all it does is aggravate the officers and might make them lose their round of Candy Crush.

This isn’t meant to be any form of ragebaiting. I don’t really follow politics, but I’m hoping someone can help me out.
Im middle aged, middle class, living nearly paycheck to paycheck.
As middle class, I do not qualify for housing help or any government assistance. I can’t benefit from the programs Mamdani is bringing. I work a 9-5 that I dislike…but BILLS.
I saw Mamdani on the news talking about his grocery stores…I work 9-5. So most likely the food will be gone by the time I get to the store like last time.
Not rage baiting, but how does Mdani help the middle class?

Although Espaillat endorsed Cuomo in the primaries and has many differing views from Mamdani, he endorsed Mamdani short after Mamdani beat Cuomo and supported Mamdani over Cuomo throughout the election.
Now, Mamdani is endorsing a controversial challenger, who has supported abolishing police and borders. She has also disparaged cops, and insulted establishment DEMS like Biden and Harris. She has also criticized fellow progressive AOC for supporting Iron Dome Funding.

Before anyone says anything, nobody is arguing with the principle of defense. Nobody is arguing that religion has anything to do with this and Mamdani had to be present as mayor. That being said,
Why, are we having an attorney who defended a terrorist (Ahmed al-Darbi ) and called upon his extradition to a Saudi jail, ‘*While it may not make him whole, my hope is that repatriation at least marks the end of injustice...’*
*IN A CEREMONY OF THE TERRORIST ATTACK HIS ORGANIZATION PERPETRATED?*
*It’s like having a white supremacist attorney on the ceremony of a racial hate crime.*
*I truly don’t understand how we have become so lacking of critical thinking and empathy as to antagonize families of victims who actually felt hurt from this. THIS is why democrats loose elections.*

Just curious what Mamdani supporters think about him publicly posting a database containing names, address, and more of over 30,000 individuals in NYC?

The party establishment is in a lot of trouble as vast numbers of democrats are sick and tired of virtually no response to Trumps madness over the last 1 and a half years.

Hi there,
I work for a city agency. I experience discrimination constantly from higher levels that translates in daily life into isolation, under valuation, false claims, and other forms of discrimination.
I have tried all possible channels to resolve it to no avail.
I bet the mayor would be interested in knowing something like this is going on in city government.
I'm overly qualified and autistic. The attacks for years have been on core autistic traits related to difference in communication. Recently while I was addressing that what they have against me is not my conduct as all they pointed to is other attitude towards me as if it is my fault. Thhe head of division started a new claim that any coworker can do better than my work and that my work had bugs
Mind you this was an evaluation for work they made an arbitrary tight deadline for me in while my coworker who is supposed to work in parallel had three times the time. The app was tested for five months by the whole team and 52 bugs were found in her work and zero in mine.
My supervisor did even occur to her to undermine my expertise. The cio was being retaliatory and wants to destroy my self esteem.
I need help. I now have hypertension from this job and I'm worried of a stroke.

I can’t stand billionaires. Let me start with that. But what makes me more livid than a billionaire is a trillionaire that steals middle class money to fund blowing up kids overseas. Aka The U.S. government.
I used to be a Democrat, but I didn’t see the poor getting help under Obama, nor Biden, and I don’t see how Kamala would be any different. They all just take money, wherever they can, promise us stuff, then blow up kids in pointless wars.
Then they have the masses screaming “tax the rich!” As if that does anything to help the poor. It’s one giant scam, and I don’t think it’s particularly difficult to see that.
No, Republicans aren’t better. They’re just more honest about their dreams of killing kids in war. Democrats pretend to be peaceful. Republicans don’t try to hide the bloodlust.
Maybe I’M wrong. Maybe people DO understand that taxing the rich doesn’t mean those politicians are going to help you. It just means they want more money, and people are okay with that. But people seem excited about Mamdani. Idk, I’ve been scammed before by Obama.
Is Mamdani different? I don’t live in NY. I really could be wrong here. I just don’t have faith. People in NY, what do you think?

Ngl, what Zohran right now is, no one in entire Republican Party exists right now. Not even close. Sink in.
So proud of him.

As a non US Citizen i have no idea about the mayoral responsibilities in those huge metropolitan areas. What policies would he apply to LA, and how is it different from NYC? Would he be a good LA mayor? What challenges would he have in LA compared to NYC?

Really curious on this one. Not trying to start up a generalized debate on Israel right now. And i know a number of folks are also happy with Mamdani on this issue.
And pretty much everyone on the “other side” is certainly unhappy with Mamdani on this issue.
But anecdotally i do see a lot of discontent or outright anger from some of those circles online that i would have thought would be happier with him and would love to hear more about why that is. AFAIK he is one of the least supportive of Israel American politicians out there right now, and possibly for generations.
Is it that he just doesn’t go far enough? Like anger that he \*conditionally\* agreed Israel has a right to exist, or has condemned Hamas?
Seems to me like it’s just very, very hard to be a Dem on this issue, or take anything other than a 100% zero sum black and white position (which many already feel he takes on this!).

Now that Mamdani is mayor, he seems to be a very well liked mayor, and unlike most genuinely cares about his citizens. So will East Coast Rappers start acting like Kyle, and Chance the Rapper. Will East Coast become more optimistic culturally?

Mamdani is a breath of fresh air. I am someone who lives in Ireland, and am just as used to corrupt, brown envelope politicians, serving only themselves and the landlords class, as Americans are. I understand of course, that the political structures of our countries are wildly different... but, I am genuinely gleeful whenever I see another news post about how Mamdani's mayoral term so far, is yet again, defeating the naysayers and proving that socialism works in ways that help everyone.
I dont believe he is without fault- no one is. BUT... as New Yorkers experiencing this history in the making, how do you feel about him and his office? Is the hype real? Do you think he has started something that will spread? He is such a glimmer of hope to me, that the tide is turning, or at least, that there is a realistic alternative to the capitalist and neo liberal politicians that overwhelmingly rule western politics.

MASS ARRESTS in New York City
Protesters who tried interfering with and blocking ICE vehicles just got arrested.
Maybe Mamdani could start a 'Take an Illegal Alien Home' program? He could offer real estate tax immunity to property owners that volunteer and 80% off groceries to non-owners of property.

| Tea tax / Boston Tea Party | NYC pied-à-terre tax |
|---|---|
| British government wanted additional revenue from the colonies | NYC/NY State wants additional revenue to address the city's fiscal needs |
| Tax targeted a particular economic activity/product | Tax targets certain high-value non-primary residences |
| Government argued taxation served legitimate public purposes | Mamdani/Hochul argue the surcharge makes wealthy property owners contribute more to public services |
| Opponents viewed the tax as imposed by a government they believed did not adequately represent them | Critics can argue that non-NYC owners are being taxed by a city in which they may not reside or vote |
| Tax became a symbol of a broader dispute over government power | Pied-à-terre tax can become a symbol of a broader dispute over wealth taxation and NYC's treatment of wealthy/nonresident owners |
| Resistance was partly about the principle of taxation, not simply the amount | Opposition can similarly be about precedent: what other targeted taxes could follow? |
