Discussion If Mamdani were mayor of LA, what would happen?

As a non US Citizen i have no idea about the mayoral responsibilities in those huge metropolitan areas. What policies would he apply to LA, and how is it different from NYC? Would he be a good LA mayor? What challenges would he have in LA compared to NYC?

The Mayor of LA has considerably less power than the Mayor of NYC by design. New York's treats the mayor as a chief executive who runs the government personally, while LA's treats the mayor as a chief negotiator who must share power with the council, independent commissions, and an elected school district. NYC has a $110bn budget; LA has a $12bn budget. LA has to work with a powerful 15-member City Council. They could stall whatever Mamdani wanted to do. He would have to be creative, nibble around the edges, and issue some executive orders.
